RATING & WARNINGS: Mature; Graphic Depictions of Violence; Major Character Death. This fic does not follow Veilguard's established lore for Solas, as it was drafted much earlier than the game's release.

A spirit is called from the world that dreams into the world that wakes. He is given the name Solas, and then he is told to forget he ever was a spirit at all. He grows up as the son of a washerwoman, a servant of Mythal the All-Mother, and knows no life but the life of the incarnated. Until his brother is kidnapped by Andruil, on the hunt for fresh blood to feed her Champion's vile experiments. Solas attempts to petition Mythal for his brother's release, but is offered an alternative instead: work for the Mother of the Evanuris, rise through the ranks, and gain enough power to free his brother himself. But unknown to him, and to the other Evanuris, history is being nudged (or perhaps shoved), and Solas will soon find himself in the position to change the course of Elvhenan forever.

"bioware lied in the marketing leading up to veilguard" in 2014 bioware presented, and i cannot stress this enough, a video that they claimed was a live demo but was literally prerecorded material that they did not even think was going to make it into the game. can we stop

It is not, Solas reminds himself, immediate cause for concern. There are any number of secluded corners in Skyhold where Compassion might come to rest—and since their return from Redcliffe, the sight of a pale boy in an overlarge hat has become much more memorable for the Inquisition's rank and file. He could descend the stairs and be given half a dozen places to look in the span of a minute.

just found a post from 2016 by someone absolutely railing against inquisition. just raging on and on how it had simplified the lore and destroyed the original vision of dao and da2 and how this person had been so callously betrayed by bioware and how anyone who liked the game is an idiot with no critical thinking skills. and idk man maybe i was bullied too much in school and never got over it. but is this really the cycle this fandom wants to endlessly repeat
