Just speaking to the void.

Writing commissions OPEN!

Hello there. I hope you are all doing well. Things have happened recently, and I've thought about it, and I've decided to re-open my writing commissions. Below you'll find a document detailing my prices and conditions. Anyone can request anything that the document okays, or, if you know someone who wouldn't mind paying a bit to have something written for them, show them this.

I'd appreciate any help sent my way towards helping getting more of these done. Thank you very much, and I hope you all are safe and sound and secure where you are.

Fucking wild to be teaching about Rosa Parks at the same time as a trans woman in Florida does an act of civil disobedience to use a women's restroom in the state capitol

As far as I know, she is the first woman arrested bc of this law. The law requires that the trans person be warned to leave the bathroom by a state official, and then if they stay they are guilty of trespassing after a warning.

So like, me, my gf, others just piss and nobody asks or tells, but this young woman sent a statement about the law to over 100 FL lawmakers so they would know she was coming, the cops were ready for her, she brought a reporter and went in anyway and spent the night in a men's jail. She is out on bail, and is hoping this will inspire change of the law. But if found guilty, and the law is upheld as constitutional, then she could spend up to 60 days in a mens county jail.

Growing up, I was taught Rosa Parks was a helpless victim. She, of course, was a victim but she was not helpless. She knew exactly what she was doing when she refused to move. It's because of her courageous act of protest many of us remember the horrible discrimination laws that existed then.

People who want to erase the power of protestors will twist the narrative to portray the victim as meek and fragile. Like those protesting just wanted peace in the moment.

But, like op stated, this trans woman wanted the world to see. She wanted to direct all eyes towards the discriminatory laws in place the same way Rosa Parks did.

People who stand up to bigotry in this manner do not want peace in the moment. They want the violence highlighted so peace will come for those after them. It's a sacrifice. They look their oppressors in the eye and bait them so the world can see how ugly the system is. They know very well they will likely be arrested or even killed. But, that too is part of the message.

Activists like this make an extremely hard decision to sacrifice their well-being for the sake of human rights.

I hope this courageous woman can safely resume her life and I hope her form of protest is heard across the country.

Have you ever looked closely at a car windshield?

The edge of the glass is painted where it is glued to the car but it has these small dots between the clear and painted glass.

These are there for a reason. When the sun hits the glass the painted areas and the clear areas will absorb heat at different rates. This causes the glass to expand and contract differently putting stress on the glass.

These dots help the glass to warm up more evenly over a larger area so the glass does not suffer stress that could cause it to spontaneously explode.

Fun fact: the Tesla cybertruck doesn’t have these.

Yes, the glass will spontaneously crack or explode in the sun.

ethics of making AI images aside, I do find a bit amusing the kinds of sob stories and mental gymnastics people make up to pretend like drawing is this super technical skill with an impossibly high barrier of entry when its like one of the first hobbies toddlers pick up

suddenly a lot of people think they got the next Lord of the Rings in their head but they were never able to turn their stories into anything tangible because the evil elitist artists are hogging all the talent and skill and they need a bajilion years of training or something as if one of the most popular manga and anime of the past decade wasn't made by a guy that draws like this

Pulling this out of my tags but for real one of the best webcomics(and also best story in general) I have ever read started out looking like this:

You do not have to be Michaelangelo to make art, just make it. Also, obligatory quote from my good man Bob Ross:

Sorry to pull this out of the tags also but I absolutely agree and wanted to elaborate further, bcs like another reason I genuinely think anyone who is interested in art but feels like they suck too much to make it should really just stay away from AI and actually just give drawing a chance is because AI cannot create new art styles. It can only make copies of what you put into it, so much so that if you want something in a specific style you have to tell it the name of the artist you want it to mimic because it cannot make something that doesn't already exist. If all you ever fed it were drawings of stick figures that's all it would ever know how to do.

But humans can make new art styles, every person's art is unique. And when it comes to ONE(author/artist behind Mob Psycho 100 and One Punch Man) and Rich Berlew(author and artist of Order of the Stick), if these guys never just started making their comics we wouldn't have ever been able to see these expressive, funny, strange, and just all around captivating pieces of art!

The image I used of Order of the Stick isn't actually exactly what it looked like at this start, this is:

And THIS is what Order of the Stick looks like now:

And while it does still look similar, it's clear how much Burlew has improved and grown comfortable in his unique artstyle, how far he's come in the last 21 years. The lighting, the line art, the panel layout, all of it has improved while still essentially just being stick figures. And I cannot even begin to describe how much I fucking LOVE the way this comic looks.

Switching to ONE, his art started out super rough

And while One Punch Man did get a new artist...I genuinely think the "better" art has lost a lot of the charm the original had. I'm so glad that ONE did Mob Psycho 100 himself and that the anime mimicked his style rather than trying to make it look more standard like OPM did, because my god, this guy's stuff conveys humor in a way that is as brilliant as it is unique. It's rough, but the roughness doesn't take away from the impact or emotions, it honestly adds to them, and overall it's incredible to see how much ONE has improved, but also how much it still looks like his art:

I do not want to live in a world where ONE and Rich Burlew didn't make their comics because they were too scared of their art looking bad. I don't want to live in a world without these stories and these dynamic and original art styles. Burlew's art legit has given me confidence, I always felt bad that when I finished and colored my art all my lines were so thick and smooth and coloring-book-esque, it's why most of what I post is like, sketches, colored or not. But after reading Order of the Stick I legit cried a little because for the first time I didn't feel bad about just doing the kind of line art that feels right to me, which looks like this:

So fr, please if you want to make art just make art. Everyone's art is unique in one way or another and if you just rely on AI all the time we'll never get to see styles like ONE and Rich Burlew's and again, I don't want to live in a world where we don't get to see all of these amazing, imperfect works of art. I want to see YOUR art, because it's yours, and the world is a better place with your art in it.

you're entitled to make art! you're just not entitled to make art that's perfectly beautiful. fortunately, no one else is either.

thinking about super paper mario again and how absolutely nothing that happened to luigi in that game could've been averted by anything he did. none of it happened due to mistakes on his part.

he made the chaos heart blow up, sure, but there was no way he could know that would happen, and it probably was about to anyway. even if it didn't, bleck and nastasia would already know his significance and are both more than capable of oneshotting him once they realized who he was. if anything it bought him a few extra chapters.

nastasia or one of her minions was going to find him in the castle eventually regardless of what he did, and then he'd have been cooked either way. not to mention everything that happens afterwards.

mario, at least, he's the prophecy guy. the story may not be about him, but it could never have happened without him. luigi's a ball of tissue paper in a hurricane. the last point in the game he had any agency was before the title screen; the rest of the time, he either can't stop what's happening or has his agency literally forcibly removed

because something decided this poor schmuck was, quite literally, the unluckiest guy in the entire multiverse

you used to be able to play games on cartoonnetwork.com . . . now every company's website wants to give you spyware and spread corporate propaganda but I REMEMBER when you could play a BEN 10 adventure game in-browser without so much as giving away your e-mail. people's heads should be on pikes for this

there should be a tax that youtubers pay where 1.5% of all of their revenue goes back to Kevin Macleod for basically supplying YouTube with it’s own soundtrack.

who is this man and what music did he make???

if you hear a royalty free song on youtube, there’s approximately an 80% chance Kevin Macleod wrote it.

here’s some you’ve almost definitely heard:

for those wondering, yes, he also made THE generic royalty free song that was EVERYWHERE in 2014.

And he doesn’t even make a 1000$ per month!

also, his site incompetech.com also has graph paper generators, if you’re in need of that. It has any kind of graph paper - INCLUDING hex paper, you tabletop gamers out there! (or knitting paper if you’re into that)

Y'all, I’ve been a fan of Kevin MacLeod for YEARS. I can identify his music within two seconds. He’s a fucking genius and he deserves all the love and credit and money people can give.

thinking about that kakapo egg that got crushed but the conservation team patched it up and it survived

life will persist against all odds

For those who don’t follow kakapo conservation, they are critically endangered parrots who only breed on years where the rimu tree they rely on meet a certain threshold of fruit production. One breeding season in 4 years can be typical, and about half of all eggs laid by kakapo are infertile (they still aren’t completely certain why, it could be a recent population bottleneck) so each fertile egg is worth its weight in gold.

This was one of only 5 fertile eggs laid on the Whenua Hou island population in the 2014 breeding season and it got crushed by its mother on accident. It was mended with glue and tape and incubated by the rangers until hatching.

At 150 days old kakapo chicks are officially added to the population total and given a unique name, until then they are given their mother’s name and a number for birth order laid in the clutch. This chick was known as Lisa-one before officially being given the name Ruapuke by local indigenous Ngai Tahu people. Here he is grown up:

It’s sad when a species is so rare we know them all individually but at the same time I love that you can point at this one bird and say oh that’s Ruapuke, his mom sat on him too hard

SOMEONE HAS BEATEN MINECRAFT IN UNDER A MINUTE

I REPEAT. SOMEONE HAS BEATEN MINECRAFT IN UNDER A MINUTE

this is actually set seed glitchless, you’re thinking of random seed glitchless (which the wr for is actually 7 min 45 sec)! this basically means that they know everything about the seed going in and are picking the most perfect seed. (the previous set seed record was 1 min 47 sec)

also this record uses a really cool strat where it uses the dragons velocity against itself and if you line things up perfectly you’re able to kill the dragon with a single shot of an arrow!

here is the video!

if you've ever been launched into the void off the top of a pillar by the ender dragon before, you know that the dragon tends to fling things around like crazy. this is because it's center hitbox wants to push objects away really fast, proportional to how close it is to the center.

if you fire an arrow at the exact perfect spot (I'm talking insanely perfect - pixel and frame dependent, as well as needing the correct rng for the dragon's flight path) then you can exploit this to have the arrow be launched at incredible speeds directly into the dragon's hurtbox.

arrows in minecraft calculate their damage based on velocity. that's why barely charging a bow does very weak damage, while fully charging a bow does much more. however, there isn't a cap on this damage. you can theoretically one shot anything in the game no matter how strong, as long as you can get the arrow to travel fast enough. and that's exactly what happens here.

the final minute barrier being broken for ssg just shows how much dedication and commitment and knowledge and willpower the entire minecraft speedrunning community has.

Apparently the US have been detaining European greencard holders, upon their return to the US after travels. Some have been deported to their countries of origin, some are held in prison in the US. A French man has been rejected entrance into the country over him having messages on his phone criticial of Trump, he was sent back to France after overnight detention. A German woman with a tourist visa was equally rejected and send back after overnight detention without access to her medication.

As of yesterday Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland and Canada have revised their travel guidelines for the US. This includes warnings over being denied entry despite a visa, detention and the US no longer recognizing the X gender marker in passports.

For the first time, the UN has advised all staff in New York to carry their UN IDs and copies of passports and visas at all times in case of being stopped by authorities. This precaution is due to increased scrutiny by U.S. immigration authorities under the trump administration, even affecting those with legal residence status.

contrary to popular belief not everyone has an innate sense of internal gender or care to have one or seek a name for it, some people go their whole lives without questioning their occupation in one of two gender roles, but for some people, if pressed, they don’t feel that internal sense of ‘i am a woman’ or ‘i am a man’, and in that case i feel the switch over to transgender vs cisgender relies on active identification of a gender other than the one they were assigned. if someone’s like ‘idk dude I just work here’ then that’s valid

A portion of people in the notes are like ‘but that makes you trans. That’s called being agender’ and another portion of people are going ‘this is how the majority of cis ppl feel and it’s NOT agender’ and personally I feel like both of them are missing the point here. Yes a lot of people identify as agender because of this feeling. Yes a lot of people with this same feeling still identify as cis. These are not mutually exclusive experiences and it doesn’t mean the agender people are secretly cis or the cis people are secretly agender. It just means they have very similar experiences of gender that they choose to conceptualize and label differently, and neither of them are mistaken or wrong to do so.

The thing that abled people who advocate for the disabled community don’t get is that there are times when disabilities/accommodations clash. Horribly.

Like I spent years having to come up with a solution to get therapy dogs into a series of residence halls. Why years? Because we had to decide who got to stay and who got to leave: the people who needed therapy dogs or the people with severe allergies to animals. Who got the alternative housing?

Things like fidget toys might seem great for some disabled people but having them in the room could be distracting/overstimulating for others. The same goes with stimming. It can’t be helped but neither can the anxiety that another person in the room feels as they watch/hear it. Additionally, something like a weighted blanket might immediately calm one kid down and send the other one into a panic attack due to the claustrophobia it causes. (*Points to myself*)

Every Metro bus in New York City has a series of seats at the front that can be lifted up to accommodate people in wheelchairs but if I’m in one of those spots then someone with a cane/walker has to journey even further to sit down.

The flashing lights of a fire alarm are there to help deaf/hearing impaired but if they’re not properly timed, they can also cause a person to have a seizure.

The worst part about all of these is that there is rarely a concrete solution that makes everyone happy/safe. And I’m not here to offer any because I don’t know them. I’m just here to remind you all that as you’re taking your education/health classes, as you’re reading your textbooks, as you’re preparing to go be an advocate, just remember that there is rarely ever such a thing as a one-size-fits-all solution to advocacy and that something you do that can help one disabled person might actually hinder another.

Food for thought.

I have heard this referred to by some in the disability advocacy profession as “duelling disabilities” and it’s definitely something I wish people would be more mindful of when discussing accessibility.
