Joy's thoughts on Kayne/Nyarlathotep from both universes?

Avatar

Big nope. He knows they're very powerful and would rather see them from behind The King in Yellow's cloak lol. I mean he's a snarky bastard but he knows enough to respect them as much as he does the King. But, in his own ways hehe.

For Joy's opinion on Nyarl, knowing he and The King have been together at one point in the past, he does regard him with courtesy (the same one a cultist does when meeting a god lol), though The King does command him to "be as dramatic and wonderful as he does when you speak to me", which basically means "oh please do not actually be respectful to him. Be the lil' shit that I love".

Hammer and Chisel ask : Does Mr. Joy ever tell Butcher about the King/his position in the cult/the fact that they're going to have an eldritch voyeur?

If so, how does Butcher react?

Avatar

Butcher knows Joy is plunged into the world of cults and eldritch nonsense, he just knows how far he needs to be to not be drowned by the waves which are otherworldly beings and gods. He doesn't pry too much. There's an unwritten rule in my AU that you basically turn away when things go supernatural. (Much like how in KiY by Robert Chambers, the King in Yellow book is rumoured to be maddening, hence why people just avoid reading and talking too much about it).

Though, he does indirectly refer to The King (when talking to Joy), as "your boss" "big man" "Mr. King". It's not that he doesn't know, it's more so The King watches the "play" and the players don't call out to the viewers (The King).

The Butcher discovers Joy's position as a high priest is fairly new. He did have assumptions about the job he currently works at is a cover for his cult shenanigans.

As for the uh, eldritch voyeur, and such. Yeah Joy is decent enough to not tell him that The King watches his "extracurricular activities".

Death

(In which Arthur Lester writes his final letter. Scroll until below).

"I am going to die. That is for certain.

As I write this I can feel my mind stretched thin and my consciousness fading as fatigue takes me over. I know that when I sleep this night, I may never wake up.

Before my mind is taken and broken apart to dust, I wanted to leave this behind. For anyone that follows me, whether it be friend or foe. I know why you all pursue me, and you will receive what you wish to seek. But, allow me to share my thoughts.

I've been running for nearly 10 years, killing cultists and evading creatures that would drive men mad. It's been a long time since I've slept with peace in mind. So much blood has washed upon my hands that I still feel it under my nails.

Am I the same person anymore? I wonder.

'Was it all worth it?' I often ask myself.

I'm not a good man. Especially before my encounter with The King. An unfit husband. A coward. An alcoholic. A poor father. I am all these things. And perhaps, whatever is waiting for me when I shut my eyes will be deserved. At least I'll find peace in that.

My only regret is leaving you. Alone. I wish I hadn't found that book. I wish I wouldn't have done all this to keep you away from its curse. I wish- I wish. I wish we had more time together. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

This path I've taken is dark and dreary, and it will only end in tragedy. So if you still wish to walk it, so be it.

That damned book has not been in my possession for years. A new friend has helped me hide it somewhere I don't know. I thought that after all this game of cat and mouse, HIS eyes would not stop following me. Those damned golden eyes would be so fixated to me that none of his followers noticed when it slipped from my hands and a decoy was in its stead.

If you are one who walked this path to protect humanity from darkness, then I'm sorry. It was too much of a risk for it to fall unto another person. But, if you're HIS, well... Fuck you. Good luck. I'm sure your King would be satisfied knowing how well you've accomplished your mission.

I can feel it. Pulling. Music, unfamiliar, filling my head. A vision of a city, unnatural, with impossible angles, whenever I close my eyes. The twin suns above Lake Hali and the tattered cloak of The King in Yellow...

Death is at my doorstep, and I fucking welcome it. I will not squirm. I will not beg. You want me to drown in despair as you come and harvest me. I'm not giving you the satisfaction.

I am the master of my own fate,

I am the captain of my soul

- Arthur Lester"

Sorry if you have already answered this, what does Arthur think of Richard? I mean realistically I can assume it’s like looking in a twisted little mirror.

But in depth how does Arthur and John feel about the silly little cult guy

(just a disclaimer John doesn't exist in my AU, it's Jane and they're with Faroe hehe, but I'll add their insight as well at the end).

For Arthur, he hates the guy. He knows that not only this man is The King's enforcer and hitman, but he has tried to kill him and traumatize his daughter before Arthur gets killed by The King. For all reasons, he is a stark reminder of what Hastur was and this god's nature. A twisted reflection of who they were with an unending obsession with The King in Yellow. All in all, he won't miss him if one day the dude's dead.

For Jane, he is annoying and a dark stain on the earth of what they were. Richard embodies perfectly of what Jane wants to turn away from. A human that's either manipulated, broken, or twisted into loving The King. And now that Jane has formed a genuine and natural bond and love with Faroe, they are disgusted at how they used to make people worship them.
