One weird experience of transitioning is failing at ur assigned gender role the whole time and everyone constantly deriding you for it but then u come out and it's like we lost a beautiful gender conforming warrior today. Must grieve for my wonderful child who pissed me off by being ugly and weird since day 1

Can I just say this weird social media push of "girl cat boy cat" pisses me off there was this girl i overheard who was petting a cat who was showing her a lot of love and talking about adopting her but when she found out she was a girl cat she was like "I don't like girl cats" like what the fuck are we doing misogyny against cats now

GOD Lady Anshi is such a fascinating character. Tragic, and a major victim of circumstance, who did something terrible and inexcusable but at the same time? You can understand exactly why she did it. That kind of trauma and violence done to someone so young is going to leave you so fucked up grown.

The absolute DEPTH of the women in this series just boggles me; it's a surprisingly sympathetic look at a world where women are commodities regardless of the level of their birth, the way that world enacts violence on them, and how they learn to survive in that world.

Just as much as it is a character study of Maomao and, to a lesser degree, Jinshi.

100% hooked.
