The thing about Alex Cabot that I keep coming back to is that even in her earliest, most "I must follow the letter of the law" blonde bob and power suit days, she still has an enormous reputation with judges for finding loopholes that she can twist to suit her arguments and her own sense of justice, to the point that they call her out on it! That is in fact one of the biggest points of her character! Right there from the beginning!

So say, just for example, that you're watching one of her earliest episodes: Season 2, episode 11, "Abuse." If you haven't watched it recently, this is the one where Olivia Benson becomes attached to a superstar singer's daughter who is hurting herself as a cry for attention due to her parents' neglect. Alex gets involved because Olivia asks her to and Alex is, as always, unable to resist a direct appeal from Olivia.* She finagles a perfectly legal way for the daughter to be removed from the home - bypassing family court, which, when they end up there as planned, does not earn her any favors with the judge.

Again, to reiterate: this is eleven whole episodes into Alex Cabot's entire character.

*another longstanding character trait, by the way, that I can't believe I don't see discussed more often because it makes me insane - and which is similarly seeded right here at the very beginning of Alex's character, before Alex and Olivia could even really be called friends!

Maybe House has made me more in-tune to the secret unhinged side of my favorite characters but I'm watching SVU and Alex Cabot is a menace. (/pos)

  • "I have to enforce the law, and the law is not always about justice" except random times when she disagrees and will fully become the lawyer for an opposing party in full defiance of her bosses.
  • "Your honor I simply do not vibe with the law" and will say so in court to the point where she once got held in contempt.
  • Started her legendary string of "Go After The Large Company Instead of the Obvious Target" cases just because Liv asked.
  • She will actually do literally anything that Olivia asks...sometimes when she does something especially unhinged I go to check the scene before and 90% of the time she's doing whatever it is to appease some vague whim of Liv's.
  • Ride or die for the SVU squad as a whole after working with them for less than a year and knowing that they have cost her like all her political capital (something that was very important to her...she says so in her introductory scene).
  • Exactly predicted fetal personhood legal issues 25 years before the Supreme Court overturned Roe.
  • Wanted to execute a woman for the first time in NY history for feminism reasons.
  • Spends like 80% of all work meetings, with other people in the room who are often actively talking to her, just staring at Olivia.
  • Always down for a Crazy Scheme (especially when she gets to deceive others).
  • She has a lot of moments of understanding the law as a weapon (ie how to I use it to my own ends as opposed to viewing it as a holy ideal) that is only now actually becoming a common philosophy in law school circles.
  • WAY more loose-cannon moments in general than I remembered.
  • Also I feel the need to reiterate just how many bridges she will burn and loops she will jump through for the slightest hint of approval from Olivia. Just...so gay.

Seriously just like how in House a casual viewer may get distracted by Wilson's "Definitely a Normal Person" disguise and miss how he is just as crazy as House, Alex is just as batshit as known exhibitionist-asphyxiation-in-the-middle-of-the-courtroom fan Rafael. And I love her dearly.

GET GRUFFALO'D, BITCH

If you haven't heard of Julia Donaldson, she's primarily a picture book author, who we can thank for extremely popular Halloween classic Room on the Broom as well as the Gruffalo.

Let this be a testament to the power of picture books.

I'm living for these jokes.

Also I need "GET GRUFFALO'D, BITCH" on a T-shirt.

the way sesame street, a pbs puppet show for literal babies, is pressing on with pride content despite vitriolic monsters descending on every post to insinuate they're pedophiles or demons while some of the biggest companies on the planet who could swim in olympic swimming pools of money like scrooge mcduck on steroids buckle and cave just emphasizes how completely and utterly pathetic these corporations are. they'd butcher a baby if it meant saving a penny.

where Starbucks and Target and Budweiser will be bullied into submission with the slightest push, puppets and people in your neighborhood stand tall

Jim Henson supported his openly queer colleagues in the 1970s! The Muppet performer Richard Hunt was majorly influential on Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock.

They also dumped Chick-fil-A in 2012 when CFA made their stance on gay marriage known.

It would be a dishonor to their memories for the Jim Henson Company to kowtow to queerphobic demands when their namesake always stood for diversity and acceptance of everyone, and it makes me proud to be a Muppet fan to see that insisted upon ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒˆ

On top of the Yankees field cat there was a praying mantis on top of the nationals players hat tonight. Huge night in baseball

He was keeping the mantis updated on the number of outs, too

Listen, nobody on earth is as superstitious as baseball players. My man knows better than to be impolite to the good luck charm that decided to grace him with its presence.

Me scrambling to make this meme like Im riding in via horseback to warn my town about an invasion
