Yeah I took a brief break cause I was busy and burnt out only to come back to this.

I think a lot of people misinterpret the bandaid line in the van speech and believe that Will is saying that in that moment he's "ripping off the bandaid" to his love for Mike. As if this is his first step in "getting over" Mike.

But that's not the case. The whole line is: "And if [I] was going to lose you, I think [I'd] rather just get it over with quick, like ripping off a bandaid." He directly follows this up by adding, "So yeah, [I] need you Mike, and [I] always will."

Will is saying what he wishes he could do. He wishes he could get over Mike quickly, like ripping off a bandaid. But the point is that he can't.

You're right, I think, except I don't think he really wants to get over Mike. He wants Mike to love him back. He's just willing to swallow it all down for the sake of Mike and El.

But, yeah, the if of what he's saying is the big part. He wasn't ripping off the band-aid in the van. He's trying to get Mike to see how he can't fathom why El (himself) would ever drag things out with him if she (he) was trying to get rid of him. Clearly, in Will's mind, she's getting upset because she doesn't want to lose him, because that's how he feels.

Since El (Will) isn't trying to get it over with quickly, it must mean that she doesn't want to lose him.

When I tell you I had to pause and rewind. I literally thought I was hallucinating or something. It’s such a romance cliche that it yanked me straight out of the GA into the fandom.

Come to find out that there are actual people who claim that Mike meant that line in a way that no character has ever meant it? “Oh yeah, we’re just platonic besties and I actually believe that”? I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen this kind of scene play out platonically.

Like correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure every character who has ever answered “we’re just friends” in a vaguely panicked way when asked what they and another character are, had feelings for the character in question.

everyday i think of the van scene and how both finn&noah said it was the most exhausting scene to film. apart from the fact noah had to continuously cry per take YOU’RE IN A VEHICLE SITUATED AT THE CENTRE OF A LITERAL SET. what’s your excuse, finn?? the desert heat??? not to mention the “practical light” intended to imitate sunlight deliberately placed at will’s side of the van. what did the duffers even say to get finn wolfhard glancing down at will’s lips every time he appeared as an intimate close-up on the screen. OR TO PUT THIS MORE ACCURATELY: every time he and will simply co-existed in the same scene. WILL THEY EVER EXPLAIN THIS!!??

the amount of times I have wondered how they direct Finn in these scenes lmaoo. like do they just say "ok Finn make sure to look down at his lips a few times while he's talking. yeah great. can you make sure to do it again? ok perf"

Honestly, Finn is pretty brilliant when it comes to facial expressions so I wouldn't be surprised if the Duffers gave him a bit of info about where his character was going and left him to his own devices. Either that or he figured it out himself lmao. It does not take a genius to go "Hmmm, Mike and Will might be gay for each other."
