A Surreal/Horror/Comfort Worldbuilding Project about Clowns [Intagram @clown.ology]

This Blog Tastes Funny

[note: some links may not work on mobile]

Hi! This blog is for my silly and surreal worldbuilding project about an alternate version of our world where clowns are not people but rather a type of anomalous animal and thus are used as pets, entertainers/mascots, and even in agriculture and the meat industry.

If you've been on Tumblr for a while you'll quickly see the connection to Clown Husbandry which is certainly one of my main inspirations. However, I also want to credit Mutatedeye, especially the early work on their surreal webcomic Vertigo's Fun Land for the meatcore horror aspect of this world.

While my project fits within Clown Husbandry, it has distinct worldbuilding that includes an alternate economic history of clown industries, dominated by exploitative megacorporations, and speculative biology elements like clown evolution with a revised phylogenetic tree. The world also features surreal fictional biomes and ecosystems and my original characters, each a clown with backstories representing different aspects of how clowns are treated in this world.

Early symptoms include coughing, noticeable discomfort, delayed limb regeneration, and a lack of vocalizations that are typical of a healthy clown. If left untreated, the infection can worsen, eventually covering the clown in mold and leading to death. BigTop Biotech VetCare provides vaccinations and treatments for Candy clown owners—take action now to protect your clown before it's too late!"

So I saw your clown hybrids post and for the sake of something between me and my friend

What would you call a scare-mime hybrid

Avatar

a Crime I jest, although that would actually be a fitting nickname or slang for a hybrid like that. Perhaps a Phantomime (get it? phantom + pantomime? you get it) A fitting name considering the european phenotypes of the monochromatic Mime and the spooky traits of the Scary clown would make for a rather ghastly but fascinating hybrid.

Click For Better Image Quality "The Scary Clown is particularly drawn to the Trap Cane's intricate, maze-like tunnels, which serve as perfect nesting grounds. These winding, disorienting passages are ideal for trapping unsuspecting forest critters, providing an easy meal for this unique carnivorous clown species. However, the dangers of this colorful labyrinth extend beyond wildlife. Several missing children cases from the late 1980s to the early 2000s have been linked to local occurrences of this anomalous plant, highlighting its threat to humans as well."

This was going to be in the next batch of posters (6-8 so far in various levels of completeness) but a friend of mine told me that the first week of August is Clown Week, so...Happy Clown Week!

"While the fun and friendly balloon dog is widely recognized, its parasitic counterpart remains lesser-known. Be aware of the distinction! To protect your pet clown, keep it from wandering into the wild or near Circus Flowers, where it could fall victim to this parasitic creature. Stay informed and stay safe!"

This unique biome is the exclusive home of the elegant Porcelain clowns. Unlike their cousins, the Teacup clowns, which can be found in various regions, Porcelain clowns are native to this grove. They feed on snail shells, using the calcium carbonate to regenerate their exoskeleton-like shells, which they shed annually. This process not only sustains the clowns but also feeds the snails, creating a cyclical exchange of recyclable calcium carbonate within the ecosystem. Masquerade Groves are typically integrated into temperate hardwood and coniferous softwood forests, primarily found across Europe, parts of North America, and certain areas in Asia."
