They were deprived of their most basic rights as children, their right to education, play and live safely like the rest of the children in the world. They were terrified and very afraid of the sounds of missiles. Our house was bombed while we were inside it and some of us were injured, but we miraculously survived. My house was completely destroyed in Khan Younis and I headed to the displacement camps on the beach. I had a beautiful house and I had clothing stores, but they were completely destroyed during the brutal war on the Gaza Strip, which was a source of income for us. The tent we live in now does not protect us from the heat of summer or the harsh cold of winter and rain. I want you to help me so that I can be with my family again

You know how I joke about getting into arguments if I were a theologian. Yeah I would definitely be getting into heated debates about the body and the soul being separate, and the debate would be against those who intrinsically link them.

Okay so I'm not even debating the first line or anything. It's more so the assertion "…we know today that it is all one.", and discarding what many religious thinkers of many different faiths believe (body ≠ soul). Not to mention it's the crux of religions like Hinduism.

I do agree that religious types over hundreds of years have tried separating them in the sense of "the body is bad because it has carnal desires, which are bad" vs "pure soul of faithful devoutness". I would argue that, yes, most mystics of many faiths, for example, straddle that line, especially if we're using "sensual" at it's very base meaning (relating to the senses).

So, if we're unifying body and soul for the sake of relieving guilt for (Heaven forbid /lh) enjoying your body during your stay on this mortal coil, sure. I get it.

A large part of the reason families were bigger in the past was because marital rape was not considered rape and birth control/abortion methods were ineffective, dangerous and/or illegal. We can pretend that they DECIDED to have big families because it was a financially advantageous decision so they could have more labor around the farm. But a lot of children in the past were fundamentally unwanted and not conceived out of love, children were not a choice women got to make. We need to admit that and stop pretending historical women were inherently more maternal because they were impregnated at the age of 15 and kept having babies until they were 40. That did not make them loving mothers, it did not make them ‘the divine feminine’ and it sure did not make them happy.
