i think one of the most upsetting things i see from artists, particularly digital artists, is the lamentation that their artwork isn't "good" because it doesn't fall into that narrow category of ultra-rendered riot splash art, or god forbid that it doesn't compete with generative ai renders.

what sort of art are you hanging on your walls? what sort of patterns are on the clothing you buy? how many items have you purchased because the packaging was cute? what are the things with which you ornament your daily life? it's probably closer to what most would call "folk art". vivid patterns, charming little animals, geometric shapes. graphic florals. calligraphy. stained glass. little ceramic objects.

wanting to explore technical rendering improvement is fine, but please do not fall into the trap of thinking that improvement and progress exists on a scale of "stick figure to photorealism". art of every kind is needed in the world, now more than ever as fascism rises and tries to tell us what is and is not "good art".

i think getting to see the keith haring "art is for everyone" exhibit last year was probably one of the most impactful art experiences of my life, and i think the reason it was is because it came at a time where i badly needed a reminder that art is allowed to be secret, abandoned, and intimate. you don't see people react to your doodle on the subway wall, you just leave it and allow people to make of it what they want privately. is it cute? is it vandalism? does it matter? you have already left. it's why i started drawing more on restaurant receipts, and on the boxes i ship out from the warehouse at my job. art being for everyone goes in both directions, and if we allow a narrow market to dictate our aspirations, the world will slowly drain of its color.

I fucking love visibly queer people and being visibly queer. I tell the bank teller (he/they name tag)(long hair)(waistcoat) that I like his earrings. They tell me (dyke hair)(flannel) that they like the pattern on my glasses (rainbow) (we're here we're here we're here I see you I see you I see you)

horses traveling on a highway meant for cars these horses are many in number and valiant in spirit as they rebel against the removal of horses from main roads following the invention of the automobile they seem to be on the way to chattanooga or greenville or augusta or macon which places them in the united states state of georgia on the interstate i seventy five these georgia horses are on a mission of rebellion against the status quo which is that cars belong on roads and horses belong not on roads

honestly even the highest concept sci-fi seems tame once you learn BioSteelβ„’ Goats exist irl

What the fuck are you talking about

you know. the spider goats. the goats spliced with spider genes.

they shoot bulletproof webbing out of their udders!

ok ok that last part’s not technically true, but the truth is still pretty nifty:

  • yes these goats really exist! in most ways they are normal goats, except for how they secrete spider silk in their milk
  • (or rather, they secrete a special protein in their milk, which is then extracted and woven into silk fibers)
  • their DNA contains transplanted genes taken from the Golden Orb Weaver Spider, whose silk is incredibly strong–but can’t be naturally produced in large quantities. because…spiders are tiny ya’ll.
  • these superpowered web-slinging spidergoats genetically modified but otherwise normal and healthy goats can produce much larger amounts of this material (marketed as BioSteel), which is stronger than steel and more bulletproof than kevlar. plus it’s lightweight, elastic, and bio-compatible (compatible with living tissue), meaning it has a ton of potential industrial and medical applications.
  • (imagine 40 years from now you need knee surgery, and your doctor sits you down and explains that your shiny new anterior cruciate ligamentΒ was actually artificially woven out of SPIDER GOAT MILK SILK. also in this magical hypothetical future we have universal healthcare. and the wealth of all billionaires has been globally redistributed. this is my hypothetical scenario, i do what i want.)
  • like i said. pretty nifty!
  • and here is a photo of one such genetically modified BioSteelβ„’ Goat, her name is Freckles

May I add the fantastic glow in the dark cats. They’ve been tagged with a gene from jelly fish that causes them to glow and that can be passed down. Was used to help study how other genes were passed.

for those wondering, yes glow-in-the-dark jellyfish cats are a real thing and they are helping scientists with AIDS research

I love how this reads as if the cats are actively choosing to assist with scientific research.

April Fools day here is always funny because my dash is full of β€œhere’s a Rick roll but it’s actually a different song” β€œhere’s β€˜do you love the color of the sky’ just kidding! It’s not the full long post!” β€œHere’s a drawing I made of a kitty! Just kidding! It’s two kitties and they’re best friends” and we do this unironically and completely ignoring the blood lust we all experience every year just two weeks prior
