so im gonna preface by saying that im sure at some point some asshole has let their dog maul a chihuahua or some other small dog at some point but it's absolutely not a widespread practice

a dogfighter will "train" his inexperienced fighting dog by sparring him against other dogs, but this is exclusively done with other fighting dogs, not chihuahuas. the point is to expose the young dog to as many different fighting styles as possible before officially matching him against another dog for money. throwing a chihuahua into the pit with a fighting dog would serve no purpose except to make the dogfighter more likely to get caught (he'd have to get the chihuahua from somewhere) it's essentially the dogfighting equivalent of mike tyson training by beating the shit out of an 8 year old.

ironically, one of the most widely accepted (among dog fighting scumbag pieces of shit anyway) ways to prepare a dog to fight is to let the dog get nearly killed by a more experienced dog. this is called the game test and the point is to make sure that if things get bad during the official match, the dog won't "cur out" or stop fighting altogether. you have to remember these guys have a LOT of money riding on these dogs, they want to make sure the dog is worth betting on before they actually set up a real match

as for where the bait dog myth came from, i suspect that people found pit bulls from dogfighting busts that were "too friendly" to be fighting dogs (most fighting dogs are in fact very friendly towards people) and had visible scarring and decided that they must be bait dogs. eventually this mentality jumped to other breeds of dogs and even other species and now we have people claiming any beat up stray dog is a former bait dog, even if the dog in question has no proximity to a known dogfighting operation. it's also a good story, "rescued bait dog" is a lot more sensational than "stray chihuahua that probably got mauled by another stray at some point"

so why is this a problem? i am absolutely not defending the "honor" of dogfighters. i hate them just as much as any normal person with a moral compass does. maybe even more. the problem is that the bait dog myth places dogs rescued from fighting operations into two neatly separated categories: perpetrators and victims. when in reality, all fighting dogs are victims. they are horrifically abused and often very traumatized animals, but they are also often able to be rehabilitated (granted, most shelters do not have the resources to do this, but it is very much possible).

you don't "hate kids," you're just not used to occupying fully age diverse spaces so you're not used to the noise or the many different kinds of needs.

you don't "hate kids," most public spaces just aren't built for kids, and so the few kids you see are always uncomfortable and distressed.

you don't "hate kids," you hate the intense social rules assigned to kids and anyone who interacts with kids.

You don't "hate kids," you hate how society reproduces its most restrictive elements and how kids are powerless to resist it.

Being a Jew in America right now is so bizarre. The president's right hand man endorses a far-right German party that wants to remove Holocaust memorials and ban the sale of kosher meat, members of the ruling party are doing nazi salutes at rallies, and standing members of congress openly repeat conspiracy theories about the Rothschilds and Jewish space lasers. Then you see a news article about antisemitism and it's like "we need to do something about all these college students protesting mass killings."

Basically, I don't think there's going to be an announcement that Tumblr is getting shut down. If the pattern we're seeing holds, I don't even think it's going to happen intentionally. I think Tumblr is going to go out like an early 2000s forum: they're just going to keep cutting the tech support budget until something goes wrong in a way that none of the remaining skeleton crew know how to repair, which could be tomorrow or three years from now. If it does happen, it's probably going to happen completely at random, so there's no point stressing out!
