My name's Charlotte and I am writing a dragon book! Guide to dragons of the world covering mythology and natural history of each dragon species. Dragons are crocodile relatives!

Happy Storyteller Saturday, if you are coming to this blog to ask an STS please ask them @bloodmoodtrash instead. Dracones Mundi doesn't have a story, doesn't have characters, it's just "this is the vishap, a dragon that lives in Armenia" and "this is the guruvilu it lives in Patagonia", it's just Dragons and Dragon Facts

idk how to answer "which character in Dracones Mundi would be best at videogames?" like they can't even hold the controllers in their paws they don't even have thumbs!!! "What's the most exciting betrayal you have written?" no drama they're all just sitting in the mud basking in the sun.

Hey, I thought I'd send a WBW to this blog today! Can you tell me more about your different OC dragon species, what makes them different and why?

Avatar

Ah so these aren’t really ‘OC’ ‘original characters’ as they aren’t really characters, just animals that do animal things like eat fish, spit venom, have naps, fly using magic generating adipose tissues, bask in the sun and hiss at people.

These dragons are based on pseudosuchians (crocodiles and their extinct relatives) because that’s what I used to research as a palaeontologist and I think they are the best animals. So they are pseudosuchians (archosaur reptiles) but magical (some can fly with levitation magic) and venomous (with cytotoxins, which cause ‘burns’, hence ‘dragon fire’!).

The last time I listed them all was about 10 months ago, link here

For sake of brevity I am NOT doing subspecies in this list because I would be here FOREVER; so for things like the najaraja there are subspecies such as the Cambodian Neak, etc. not actually named in this list.

Not making new Dracones Mundi art yet per se, but I am practicing drawing greyhounds so I can illustrate some myths; may have a section on dragon slaying legends, involving the important equipment; lances, spiked armour, exploding pies (yes, really), spiked barrels, a valiant steed and a pair of faithful hounds.

It's important to know how to draw animals to keep skills sharp, I always say "I pretty much only draw dragons" and this leads to skills stagnating. The greyhound, a long and leggy thin dog with a barrel chest, is the opposite shape of my sausage-shaped crocodile dragons, so I'm really out of my comfort zone here haha!

I Need Help

Hey folks, serious post. I've mentioned what's going on with me a couple times but never really went into much detail; I've been having severe pain in my left side for over 3 months now. Doctors can't figure out what's causing it, no X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, or blood work show anything. I've seen multiple specialists and gotten no answers. I finally got one of them to send me to physical therapy which I started last week.

My co-pay for specialists is very high and my physical therapy counts as specialist visits according to my shit insurance.

I'm going to be out $600 in the next few weeks because of this. I'm already out more than $500 because of the previous doctor visits and imaging done. So that's over $1100. And this is assuming the PT fixes me. I hope it does, I'm so tired of dealing with this. More bills are still coming in as well so who knows how much I actually owe...

I really hate asking for real life money, especially right now with all the Palestinian gfms going around, but I'm struggling, my job pays like shit (in the US? shocking I know /s) and I haven't been able to work a full shift for the 3 months this has been going on. All of this is excluding my normal medical costs for unrelated issues, which are expensive enough as it is.

I'm going to drop some links here.

Help Me Pay My Medical Bills

If you donate leave me your Tumblr url and a request and I'll doodle something for you:

I'll draw Flight Rising dragons, non-FR dragons, animals, dinosaurs, kaiju, pokemon, any kind of creature really, furries, etc.

Here are some examples of my work from this year's Art Fight

These obviously aren't doodles but they're the most recent pieces I've made and are most accurate to my current style. The more you donate the more time I will spend on your request.

** If you can't donate I would greatly appreciate reblogs **

Update 3/10:

I just got the estimate for my upcoming surgery (this wednesday)

It's gonna cost me around $3,000 after insurance

It's been almost a year since all this started and I've spent between $4,000 (will be $7,000 after surgery) trying to get it sorted

Any help would be greatly appreciated <3

Okay I have deleted a bunch of asks in my inbox, I have saved a few (Georgia, dragons in the USA, how to draw dragons, you are saved as I have you in my drafts not my inbox; started but not finished writing responses for these) but I may have panic-pressed the 'delete all asks' button

Oh when is your Dragon Book coming out? Are you gonna get it published?

I would like to! I need to get it finished first!

My full time job as a secretary takes priority as it gets the bills paid, I write/illustrate Dracones Mundi (this blog @draconesmundi ) and write Bloodmood ( @bloodmoodtrash ) during my free time. My goal this year is to work out a better work/life balance so I can get my projects more complete!

Usually I try to motivate myself to get 1 illustration finished every week and post it on mondays (the 'Dracones Mondays') but for the past few months I have not had much time for art. Hopefully as we start the new financial year in April things will calm down at work and I can do more creative things!

Its been over a year since I first posted this image so its about time I explained what this is:

The Common Wyvern is a species of dragon found throughout the steppes and grasslands of Eurasia. Very much the jackal or coyote of dragons, they are extreme generalists and will eat almost anything, including carrion, small vertabrates, insects, grains, fruit and peoples garbage. They live in fission-fusion groups consisting of a few unrelated adults and their young that havent yet left to form their own packs.

Like most wyverns, the common wyvern has a venom spray attack. This causes irritation to the skin, but can cause blindness if it gets in the eyes of an opponent.

These guys are part of a fictional world I'm creating, which is basically a fantasy world filled with various mythical creatures and fictional races. Many of my ocs are also part of this project.
