"came back wrong" what about Came Back Afraid. You used to be brave. Too brave maybe, defying the odds at every turn, a fighter, cocky, playing with fire, first to throw yourself at the enemy. Until one day it all caught up to you. You came back, somehow, but now you know all too intimately how it feels to lose, to die, to be destroyed. Now you flinch and freeze and cower at the slightest provocation. Who even are you now if you can't be brave? The grave may have let you go, but the mortal fear still grips you tighter than ever.

Oh this happens

This is everyone whom has ever said β€œI have no intention/expectation to live to see X years old”

And then you do

;-) and or ;-/ depending on your particulars, here is hoping it’s the former, or can become the former

β€œWho even are you?”

The answer my fellow I hope you quickly see is β€œcompletely and utterly free” in a way you cannot yet expect

Yeah you're right. It WOULD be pretty fucked up if you were a swan but you were raised by ducks and you grew up never seeing another swan or even knowing that such a thing as a swan even existed so you just thought you were a duck with something super wrong with it.

hey Elvis is the glass half full or half empty to you?

Woah mama it depends on whether you're filling or emptying

Endless optimism is a foolish way to look at the world, unable to see the strife and suffering. Endless pessimism will never make anyone happy, especially not you. You need to take the good and the bad, the dark and the light, the full and the empty. Hummina hummina hummina

The funniest hyperfixations have gotta be the ones where you watch something and go "this thing is cute. I like it. not sure if Id call it a favorite of mine but its definitely enjoyable at least" and then cut to a month later and its completely overtaken your life

I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.

I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.

If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.

And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

Writers on AO3 when they see the hit counter on their fic go up and get an email that someone left kudos or a comment: Yay! People like my story! This made my day!

Writers on AO3 when they see the hit counter on their fic go up but the number of kudos/bookmarks/subscriptions/comments doesn't change: Oh. People are reading my story, but I guess they didn't like it.

Writers on Tumblr when they see notifications on their story: Yay! People are liking my story! Oh, somebody left a nice comment! Oh, they even reblogged it! That was so sweet of them!

Writers on Tumblr when they see 0 notes on their story: Nobody read it.

Also, just for fun, here are the stats for my fanfic with the most hits:

Almost half of the comments are my replies, so there are actually 27 individual comments. And almost 27,000 hits. So, basically a 1:10,000 ratio.

Do you still think writers are being unreasonable?

While 27 comments may not be much when someone gets them gradually, it's a lot to read through to make sure you're not contributing to unintentional spam.

unintentional spam?? I'm sorry this is just such a foreign idea to me.

I promise you there are vanishingly few authors who would be upset to receive more than one comment saying the same (positive) things!

If I receive multiple emails of comments on something I write, there is an actual zero percent chance of me being upset by it. Literally would make my day, week, month. Love your authors! Comments do not have to be detailed analysis - something as simple as β€œ<3” conveys so much. (In fact, the very first comment I got on AO3 was β€œ<3” and I treasure it.)

Spam your local fic author with comments. You never know what could happen.

They might fall in love with you.

Happened to the Goob author. Happened to me.

I made one of my dearest friends this way. And I bet she'd be completely unsurprised to know I still have her comments saved.

Tell 'em how long it's been, @sparklingganymede.

Whenever I find myself afraid of something I set a deadline for the fear to end. β€œPanic until Thursday”

If I am still worried on Friday, the clock was longer than a 7 day schedule.

So it resets.

Coincidentally this is a forceful reminder of time’s passage.

Which is handy!

That’s……a fucking WOMBAT?!?!

i thought wombats were small. That looks photoshopped!

That’s Patrick! A wombat raised since he was a joey on a wildlife park in Victoria, Aussie, he’s known as both the oldest and biggest wombat we know of!

Most wombats average around 30 to 40 inches, so fat Pat is definitely an outlier. For comparison here’s a moreΒ β€˜regular’ wombat.Β

dynamaxed

I can’t speak for everyone, but I know that personally, I had always figured wombats were kinda like groundhogs in the USA. Not β€œsmall” small, not like a rat or a cottontail rabbit, but, y'know. Woodchuck sized. Punxsutawney Phil sized.

When I visited Australia shortly after college and went to one of the zoos and saw a wombat the first time, and learned they are the size of small children and can weigh 50-70lbs, I was VERY taken aback. Because we have what I THOUGHT was a pretty comparable animal. I had seen pics like this

And we’ve got, y'know. this thing.

I figured they’re probably the closest thing we have to wombats, and PROBABLY filled a similar niche, if not exact, and were PROBABLY close in size given the pics I’d seen of them… but I’d never seen a pic with a size reference, so I was not prepared.

I do wonder if Australians that know about woodchucks/groundhogs know they’re small, or were surprised to find out they’re small, compared to wombats.

i like w,hen ......... theres a Big scaresy fantasies beast ok .... and then the big beast has a litter of babies,,,., and the babeis are veryvery small . ok

do u understand ...

YEAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!

i couldn't stop thinking about this addition..

Not an invitation to cocoon yourself in a self-care bubble for four years, but a reminder to the 24/7 worriers that you can literally write "To Do on Monday: Worry about ________" on a post-it note and stop worrying about it for one day while you recharge.

Another point: Both your mental health and your ability to resist will be improved by finding a community. A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved. And apes together strong.

😭

Calling scam victims stupid, much like cult members, serves to do nothing but make you feel superior, blame victims for the wrongs done to them, and in turn actually makes you more vulnerable to scams (and cults, and so on). "Look at these people! Morons! I could never be one of them because I am smart, unlike these people who fell for them because they are stupid. It is not about vulnerability and luck, both of which are factors that could affect me, it is all simply a matter of in-born intelligence, which is why I, a better human, don't have to worry about falling for them."

And boom, you have already let your guard down - you would never fall for a scam (or cult, etc.) so you can safely click on that link or read that pamphlet because if it was a scam you'd have identified it as such immediately, because you are smart. You don't need to stop and question. You're too smart. And, really, if they didn't want to get scammed they shouldn't have gone out dressed like that.

We're all potential victims. Every single one of us has been at one point or another been at vulnerable to a scammer, or a pickpocket, or any other number of external force trying to harm you for their own benefit. Blaming the victims feels good but it doesn't help shit in the long run.

Being Cautious makes life really hard...everybody wants me to scan a QR code for some shit or click a link or sign in using an account or put information into a google form etc etc etc just for basic stuff and being like "I don't trust it" makes you seem weird
