Charles as a adrenaline-junkie but brilliant trauma doc running the emergency room.

Edwin as a Dr. House sort of diagnostics specialist for rare diseases.

They have been friends and roommates since med school and work together whenever strange cases show up at A&E.

Crystal is the resident neurologist or maybe psychiatrist (insert psychic/psychiatrist pun here)? She just came back after a sabbatical she took to get over the worst break-up ever and is struggling to put her life back together.

Niko is the lovely new nurse who keeps everyone working well with each other (as long as the Head Nurse isn't on her ass about it).

The Cat King is the local vet who sometimes shows up for a guest role (mostly tags along when one of his patients has bitten someone so he can visit Edwin, but since he enters through A&E it has the extra benefit of ruining Charles' day)

Monty works in the lab and is often the one to deliver crucial information that leads to a breakthrough.

Jenny is a badass surgeon, maybe specializes in cardio? She's got the best scalpel skills in the hospital.

Tragic Mick works at the in-house pharmacy and Niko is the only one who listens to his stories.

... Esther is just a REALLY BAD pediatrician!

((Charles got interested in medicine because he had to learn how to stitch himself up whenever his dad refused to let him go to the emergency room...))

((Edwin got into medicine because his mum died of a very rare but treatable illness that got diagnosed way too late...))

Ahhh I love this. I work in emergency medicine now and so I imagined both of them as A&E attendings but I would read any variation and this is so good (also can I mention I adore your writing so much, Lucrow!?).

Edwin and Charles are like a well oiled machine with their team multidisciplinary team in the resus bay when a trauma comes rolling in.

(Actually I don’t know if my experience is also how things are run in UK, so maybe this ER is in Port Townsend haha.)

Crystal maybe a doctor from Trauma Surgery who they work with often—she has to come down from Trauma Surgery to assess for her team.

Niko is one of the A&E nurses. She is running the trauma from the nursing side and doing all the documentation as the doctors order things.

Monty is a technician and he is drawing the blood and running the samples to the lab, then bringing back the printouts for Edwin and Charles.

TCK is with respiratory. He shows up to support the intubation. Edwin is especially good with intubation. Charles is good with suture and quick repairs.

Jenny is the charge nurse. She is getting too old for this bullshit.

Kingham and Litty are with psychiatry consult. Enough said.

Tragic Mick is with pharmacy.

Esther is hospital administrator and the Night Nurse is nursing leadership.

Kashi is with social work care management.

What else—

Charles drinks 10000000 diet sodas and rides a bicycle to work.

Edwin is a tight ass but he’s the guy you want on your team because he’s clever and thorough. He got sad when no one liked his pitch for new lanyards that says “metabolise to freedom” (what they have to do for the alcohol intoxicated patients—monitor until sober) and said he’s not good with people yet again.
