Oliver Harper

  • Brilliant extended universe companion of the First Doctor. His story is both something that is both true to how the 60s were and yet could never have been explored by the TV series at that time. A perfect combination and a wonderful addition to the First Doctor and Steven's history. Very well played and I wish he could come back for more. (@hartnellwho / @elden-12 )

Oliver Harper is one of the very best EU companions, a brilliant example of a companion whose story fits perfectly as a blend of being so inherently tied to the 60s but could only have been made in the present. He's wonderful.

Certainly better than the irritating non-entity who spent 90% of her first boxset saying "taaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhdy box" and who had so little personality and characterization that the Doctor had to mention her Dark Eyes every. single. fucking. time. he spoke to her. because there was basically nothing more to her.

Oliver is currently on 48.3% that's really close, especially as this poll has less voters than the Barbara one.

Even if you've not heard Oliver (his poll has around 200 voters less than the Barbara one) please, please vote for him anyway. He is brilliant and such a perfect addition to the First Doctor's era and fits in to it seamlessly. He deserves your vote. Please. 🥺

It's 50/50 right now. This is so tense. Come on anyone who hasn't yet. Give Oliver and out right win not a tie!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Marty going back and crashing Doc’s wedding.

Like, I can picture it so clearly. He’s talking to Clara one day asking about the wedding and she’s showing Marty pictures and telling him what a grand time it was and how she wished Marty could have been there. Yes, the whole town and her entire family showed up but Doc’s standing there in a picture with the other groomsmen and there’s this very noticeable gap between him and the other men, because Doc wouldn’t let anyone take Marty’s place. And it kills until he thinks ‘what the hell, I have a time machine, fuck it!’ And he goes back.

He gets there the night before and comes in to find Doc losing his shit because Great Scott it’s happening I’m getting married! and generally juat being a blissfully panicked scatterbrain. Marty watches at the door for a while until when it looks like Doc’s about to knock himself on the head again from flailing, he clears his throat. “Telegraph for Emmett Brown.”

And Doc stops dead. His back is turned. There’s a pause where he leans a little, as if listening to check that he’s not hearing things. It seems like a very practiced motion, one he does a lot even when he doesn’t realize it. (It takes Marty some time to realize he’s taken to doing that himself. Listening, waiting.) Until finally he turns around and sees Marty there, wearing the best of what survived his last trip to the 1880’s. It’s not really that appropriate for a wedding but it’s all he had.

“You left a spot for me in the photos, that’s practically an invitation right there…” And the next thing Marty knows he’s a foot off the ground being huged so tight he can barely breathe, and Doc’s babbling about ripple effects and reprocussions and oh who cares I’m getting married tomorrow!

At the ceremony Clara shoots Marty a knowing smile, because she’s aware of the maleability of time and she’s already planned it somewhere in her mind. It’s her gift to Emmett. Because his gift to her is all of time. The least she can do, make sure his day, their day, is properly attended.

you will live to witness manmade horrors that are completely within your comprehension if you've paid any attention to a single piece of human history but are nevertheless still huge bummers

Labor is promising to stop price gouging because of Greens pressure.

Greens tried to make price gouging illegal last year. Labor voted it down because they don't want to make it look like Greens pressure works, but they've realised the only way to win the election is to adopt Greens policies because Greens policies actually tackle the cost of living.

Voting for the Greens isn't a waste of time. It's vital for a better government that puts people before profit and it WORKS.

Cass not only refused to travel with the Doctor (so not a companion) but even purposely got him killed in the process.

Vote for Oliver Harper. A brilliant actual companion with an amazing story and fitting perfectly in to the First Doctor's era.

Labor just announced a great policy! Making price gouging illegal! They've adopted the Greens policy and are promising to go after the Coles/Woolworths duopoly to make groceries cheaper. Excellent!

Naturally, the Coalition is critical of this. The Coalition also voted against it when Labor made wage theft illegal, so you can really tell that the Coalition just hates anything that'll help poor people instead of giant corporations.
