Thinking about how eurocentrism is everywhere, thinking about how it permeates every single thing. Thinking about how in very places like home, the colonial thought is never fleeting, it’s so ever-present and it entirely oppresses the Black mind. Now when I look at this tumblr, I realise it as a space that I created for myself in order to escape the western gaze, to escape eurocentrism, to escape racism. I’m reflecting now on the circumstances in which I became active on here… How for the longest time, I was known as the ‘Black’ girl where I lived. I was confronted with race so viciously and consistently that my forced solitude brought me here. I am not as educated or as knowledgeable on Blackness solely out of interest but by circumstance. I once said I found heaven in Blackness and I feel I should make it clear that that heaven did not just exist purely without circumstance, it exists because outside of it, in this world bleached so aggressively, it is hell for the black mind and body. It is hell for me.
