I think the reason why SotR ultimately fails, and TBoSaS has less opponents (except for the crowd who would lynch you for enjoying Snow's character at all) is that it doesn't retcon anything from the original trilogy at all. It doesn't even recontextualize anything. It just adds flavor to certain scenes, but - strictly in terms of the books - not much. Specifically one, the conversation between them in Catching Fire, when he mocks her for Peeta seeing through her act. Because all other scenes now being used to show parallels between TBoSaS and the trilogy are movie-exclusive, although written with Collins' help, which indicated that she might have a vague idea of Snow's background at this point. I'm not saying that she already had Lucy Gray Baird in her mind back in 2012, but surely there was some idea brewing.
Still, TBoSaS doesn't change much. It never tries to convince you that, had he not met Lucy Gray, Snow would be a nice young lad, and not a cold-blooded dictator. If you don't lack media literacy, it also never tries to reframe Katniss-Snow conflict as him holding personal grudge first and foremost. Sejanus was literally invented to show the readers that Snow will eliminate anyone, who he perceives as a threat, and Katniss is a threat to his regime. Lucy Gray's existance and her memory surely added some personal bitterness, which might add new optics to Snow's personal torment of Katniss in Catching Fire, but the entire epilogue indicates that, while LGB will always be a thorn in Snow's side, he is perfectly capable of functioning and achieving success without thinking much about her every day.
Simply speaking, TBoSaS is like ketchup to the trilogy's fries. You can eat the fries without it, and they're still delicious, but ketchup adds something without taking anything.
SotR, on the other hand, serves you carrots instead of fries, and when you start to protest, it explains to you that you actually asked for carrots, that you had to read the menu wrong, because the menu says 'carrots', and what do you mean that there's a picture of fries next to the price? It's all some sort of the great potato propaganda. You were wrong for wanting fries. It was always a carrot, so eat it and shut up.

I catch a glimpse of myself on the television screen on the wall thatโs airing my arrival live and feel gratified that I appear almost bored. Peeta Mellark, on the other hand, has obviously been crying and interestingly enough does not seem to be trying to cover it up. I immediately wonder if this will be his strategy in the Games. To appear weak and frightened, to reassure the other tributes that he is no competition at all, and then come out fighting. - "You know what my mother said to me when she came to say good-bye, as if to cheer me up, she says maybe District Twelve will finally have a winner. Then I realized, she didnโt mean me, she meant you!โ bursts out Peeta. โOh, she meant you,โ I say with a wave of dismissal. โShe said, โSheโs a survivor, that one.โ She is,โ says Peeta.

Take at which we can achieve nuclear fusion: "woman of color" is also not a different gender from "cis woman".
If women of color are so "masculinized", if we are so Indelibly Associated with Maleness, then why are we hypersexualized and treated as disposable sex objects by a white-hegemonic patriarchal culture? Does our fetishization as "highly submissive" register as particularly male to you? Does the proliferation of beauty industry trends fixated on commodifying our features and making them surgically available to white women seem like we are being distanced from womanhood?
If "trans women face so much pressure to change their bodies", why do clinics stonewall and refuse to prescribe us the treatment we desperately need, and why do doctors UNDER-PRESCRIBE HRT to us, or refuse to cover top surgery for trans women?

I will state, plainly, that this site is so transmisogynistic, even its acceptance of transfemininity is transmisogynistic.
Tumblr hates women. Hates women and womanhood. It views being a woman as boring, un-hip, conformist, regressive, and 'patriarchal' or 'male gaze'.
Every time I see a post that is transfem-positive, it is almost always couched in casting trans women as Male Women, as avatars of gender-ambiguity, as a "masculine womanhood".
Best of both worlds, eh?
You are The Misogyny Site, and even your supposed 'acceptance' of us is poisoned swill.
