I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all

a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)

so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.

nothing funnier to me than when AI does math wrong. like I get why it happens, it's a language model that's treating the numbers you feed it as words rather than integers and then giving you an answer based on how those words typically appear in a block of text instead of actually performing a calculation. but the one thing computers are genuinely incredible at. you fucked up a perfectly good calculator is what you did, look at it it's got hallucinations

I need everyone to know this Bob Hoskins playing Mario Mario from the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie which also featured John Leguizamo as Luigi Mario and that while as a movie and an adaptation of the franchise it is rife with problems ranging from the technical to the aesthetic to the philosophical, and also bearing in mind I didn't go to see the newer animated film, I will nevertheless assert that in no way shape or form could any modern adaptation be anywhere near as interesting and yes even as fun to watch as this deranged but well-intentioned film.

Back in the 90s, someone had script for a dark future cyberpunk movie (it was in style at the time) and them some coked out executive decided to make a Mario movie and just slap the brand over that script.

Also, because Mario at the time didn't have like a whole lot of characters, they had to really stretch it. Like, do you know who this absolute queen is?

A fish, that's big Bertha. They based the character very roughly on a giant fish that instantly eats you on a couple of water levels.

And that's the whole movie, a lazy executive desicion followed by wacky writing, and (and I mean this from the heart) Incredible design and execution. Like there's real actual talent at work there. This movie is better than it had any right to be and you should see it.

I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.

there doesn’t have to be something wrong or “problematic” about something for a person to not like it. personal taste is personal taste. but something not doing it for you doesn’t mean it automatically has to be wrong or bad. it’s just not for you. 

There’s been several times when I’ve watched a thing and been like, they clearly did what they intended to do, and did it well, and I don’t want any part of it. This is a high quality and deeply unpleasant piece of art.
