She was dressed in night robes, as if she’d tried to actually sleep during the raging battle while hiding in the Inner Sanctum. Her long, stout legs produced long strides made longer by her speed. In spite of her size, she could run like the wind.

“Where is he?!” she nearly screeched, shoving over the guard standing watch in the doorway, sending him crashing into a tray of medical instruments. “Fandral?!”

*wipes away a few tears* This is so wonderful and sweet. I love it. They deserve their happy end! 🥹

CHAPTER WARNING: bodily injury, character death WORD COUNT: 2.2k

It was difficult for you to process anything clear. Your ears were ringing, your brain swimming with dizziness and pain from the explosion. The blurriness behind your eyes could not be blinked back. All you could see was Odin advancing, Loki being attacked from behind when he turned away, and just as the ruthless former King looked about to strike a death blow, a flash momentarily blinded you again, followed by a crack of thunder that fell on near-deaf ears.

Loki felt instantly recovered, back to full-strength, if not stronger than ever. Jumping to his feet, he held Mjolnir triumphantly aloft in the midst of the falling bodies and ongoing fight, just as you’d seen. His skin flashed blue, and upon seeing their heir wearing his true Jotun colors, his brethren began to advance into the fray themselves, late but present.

As a child raised in the Inner Sanctuary, so much was certain. Your routine, your place in the hierarchy, your future, and your safety were essentially guaranteed as long as you obeyed the rules. In a way, the protective cover of the dungeon was a positive way to assure you that even with painful, strange visions coming without warning, you were going to be well in a matter of hours.
