It’s so refreshing to hear a male idol talk about using makeup as armor. Mingi always speaks with such bluntness that many underestimate his intelligence and self-awareness. Especially given his history of anxiety and doubt, and his desire for perfection and achievement for himself and the whole group, I appreciate his admittance that the putting on the idol makeup is one mechanism of protection against self-doubt. But he also acknowledges that it's also a weakness, to hide so much of yourself behind that armor. I think that's what the Fix On/Fix Off project has been about - getting to a place of balance.
it also makes me think of his confession that the quote unquote fix on persona is essentially a shield he hides his anxiety behind before getting onstage, because he still experiences nervousness/anxiety around performing, and fix on is more of who he really is, messiness and all.
one thing i really love about mingi is that he doesn’t seem to try and pretend that he’s this flawless, polished person - he’s incredibly introspective, and unafraid of sharing the more human aspects of himself. he might be a self-admitted perfectionist, but it feels like he refuses to compromise his integrity to do so, and his willingness to share these ‘weaknesses’ is, imo, one of his greatest strengths, because it makes him seem uniquely authentic and genuine. ilysm (i love you song mingi) <3
