discord servers replacing forums and similar niche communities primarily sucks for being a black hole of information but a close second is that it discourages lurking. maybe i want to anonymously observe a community to see what people are like and if i would fit in before i start interacting! maybe i don't want to immediately jump in to a spammed chorus of animated greeting stickers on an account tied to several other elements of my online identity! let me lurk!!!

and you now have access to their discord handle and are capable of DMing those people because you share a server. if they have the same username as other social media, you can now find them on other websites, or perhaps you recognize them.

those aren't lurkers. those are inactive members. this is about being able to determine if i want a discord to access me, not the other way around.

you guys get to decide what a burger is in your culture, not in anyone else's.

for other cultures which are being culturally colonised by your mega corporations, a burger is whatever the fuck your fastfood chains peddled in to any such culture. and what they peddled was cheap gross and dripping with grease something in a flat tasteless bun.

outside Murica the signifier "burger" points to something in a bun. in Murica it points meat processed in a specific way. that's fucking linguistics and culture studies 1:1 and you fuckers fail it every time, because you can't for a second shed your imperialist mindset. like it's not that deep, you are the colonisers in this discussion and you're complaining that other countries weren't colonised right.

if burgers came to other countries organically, through cultural exchange and genuine interest in that kind of food, then the word "burger" would denote something else outside of Murica. but burgers were introduced through economic and cultural imperialism and they are what your megarich capitalist ghouls sold.
