it's the early 1700s. u have a close friend and he asks about ur trauma so u say "okay well here it is. remember my dead wife? well she was another guy's wife when she and i first got together. the guy didn't mind tho bc he and i were ALSO in crazy love. when his dad found out we were in crazy gay love he killed him. so my crazy gay love is dead now which is why im raging a war against the english empire"

and this mfer goes "well this is of immediate concern for me not because of the gay thing but because at least three times now the person who loved you most ended up dead. and i am the person who loves u most rn. BUT i am incapable of dying so this means ill eventually have to kill you (???). which makes me sad"

Thinking about the fact that when presented with Peter’s betrayal, Thomas ultimately chose to forgive him while Miranda and James' reaction was to burn an entire city to the ground.

I don’t say that as a moral judgment on either side, as both are incredibly in character. It's just super interesting and makes me think James and Thomas' reunion wouldn't be as simple as it is often presented. They are still very different people who've experienced their own traumas and reacted to them in different ways. Though I suspect if Thomas knew Peter was responsible for Miranda’s death, his reaction would be quite different than before.

In a sense, yes. But one must remember that Thomas was being asked to forgive something that has been done to himself, flint and Miranda were asked to forgive something done to their dead loved one, which in many cases is a lot more difficult because on top of their own anger and betrayal, there's a sense of indebtedness to those deceased that's informing their actions

anyone else remember being like 13 years old and watching that scene in how to train your dragon (2010) where hiccup carefully navigates the maze of lines toothless has drawn between them without breaking or stepping on any of them and with his back to toothless and eyes shut to demonstrate how he’s willing to put total faith in him not to harm him or run away and to show humility and a desire to establish a natural bond of mutual trust instead of the arrogance to try to force toothless to submit to his will and hearing the music crescendo and fade into silence as he finally crosses the last obstacle so that they’re standing mere inches from one another, tension built on years of bad blood between their two races, so immense it’s almost like a physical barrier, separating them, and after what feels like forever toothless presses his nose gently into hiccup’s outstretched palm and it fits perfectly like it was made solely for that specific purpose, and feeling all the hairs on your neck stand up and a stifling sensation that brought actual tears to your eyes rise in your throat as it touched something profound and full of unspeakable yearning inside you

Our fandom forbearers did NOT suffer through Anne Rice, strikethrough, and other bullshit for fucking ACOTAR and Harry Potter fans to fucking ruin it for all of us by selling fanfiction. I am not losing novel length yaoi epics because some of you don't know how to act in fannish spaces and yes I do blame the booktokification of fanfic but I also blame those of you that treat fandom like content to consume and not a community to engage with.

Seriously people, learn fandom etiquette. It exists, it exists for extremely good reasons, and it's been decades in the making.

You know the saying, 'OSHA regulations are written in blood'? Yeah, that applies to fandom etiquette. We didn't make this shit up to lord it over newcomers, these rules evolved as a form of fucking self-defense and by god we'll die on this hill.

So stop putting other people's fanfictions on KINDLE UNLIMITED!!!

In case you're unaware: that can (and will) get the writer and publisher a Cease & Desist and very possibly a lawsuit. Which they will lose.

Fanfic must be free or else it is breaking copyright — even advertising on a fanfic website is risky.

You do not own the copyright. You do not own the characters. You do not make money off copyrights that are not your own.

Who TF is putting fanfic on Kindle Unlimited??

Don't list it on fucking Goodreads either ffs.

still so fucking weird to go from real life, where a cis man being flamboyant/effeminate/camp is judged like 70+% by how he speaks and carries himself, to online queer communities, which often seem to have no concept of male gender non-conformity that doesn’t involve wearing a skirt

i promise you, a man can be fem to the point of being in danger while wearing literally exactly the same thing as a hypermasculine guy. a boring basic black suit. a t shirt and jeans. a UNIFORM. gender conformity is not only about what you wear

None of you have watched that heartbreaking scene in The Birdcage where Albert gives up wearing everything he likes to try and blend in for their son’s conservative prospective in-laws and is so awkward and uncomfortable that no one says much until finally he says, defeated, “I know what you’re thinking - dressed like this, I’m even more obvious, aren’t I?” and it shows.

Here, have your queer heart broken:

This is what I’m talking about. This is still literally how it is in most places in the Midwest if you’re trying to “pass” for straight/cis/whatever.

I cannot begin to describe how hard I cried when I saw this scene the first time and how confused my conservative family was as to why I was crying.

It’s so funny how literally the way a man holds his wrists is an indication of femininity but also people think it’s all about makeup and clothing. But we’re also at a point that if you have a suit that is any color other than black, dark grey, or navy, it’s flamboyant.

Men’s sartorial stylings are so rigidly controlled it’s painful. Tim Gunn here is at the very absolute bleeding edge of “acceptably masculine” here for most cishet men, just for some noticible stripes, patterns, and purple, and that’s before he even moves. This is how restricted it is.

But Trixie Mattel (out of drag here) wearing standard masculine garb is could still be deemed unacceptably feminine for body language alone.

This is why we talk about “toxic masculinity” – the idea that any expression of emotion besides anger or even wearing colorful clothes is non-masculine and therefore restricted is horrifying. It sucks! Men should be allowed to express themselves outside of a tiny box of acceptable behavior, because they’re, y'know, people, and people have a wide range of expression in the way they like to look and move and act. I honestly feel like it’s gotten worse over the last couple decades, too. If you look at men’s fashions from the 70s and even into the 80s, there’s a lot of style choices that look pretty cringe to us, but…. you also see a lot more color and pattern in suits than you do now. I’m not sure when this started to shift, or if it’s tied in to the increasing lack of color in all consumer products, but it sucks.

so are we going to talk about the symbolism of Eddie shaving off his mustache (his version of a beard by his own words), expressing his joy in that freedom, and then almost immediately opening the door to Buck?

like are we ready to talk about that yet????

scurvy has got to have one of the biggest disease/treatment coolness gaps of all time. like yeah too much time at sea will afflict you with a curse where your body starts unraveling and old wounds come back to haunt you like vengeful ghosts. unless☝️you eat a lemon

Cute little scene I did last year, love the idea of Crowley sleeping with his head in Aziraphale’s lap while he reads <3

It’s interesting how they have Nick slightly interrupting Charlie’s attempts to reach out - completely by accident

Like Charlie is about to tell Tori about his eating issues - and then Nick calls

Then Mr Ayaji is very carefully drilling down on Charlie’s OCD symptoms and then Nick arrives

Like Nick is such a big support but it’s interesting how other elements of Charlie’s support network shut down when he arrives - almost like the expectation that his boyfriend should be the primary supporter in the situation- and demonstrating the serious flaw in that thinking

(Not least because trying his best though he may be Nick is a teenage boy too)

iwtv is great because sam reid was like “ever since I was a little boy I dreamed of being lestat” and eric bogosian was like “the most erotic experience of my life was watching a dracula play and I want someone to bite my neck” and assad zaman was like “i think I should get to have a threesome with both daniels” and no one stopped them and jacob anderson didn't say any of that but he did deliver a performance too good for the emmys
