Mack. 26. Deeply unserious.

Hmm actually Lucy Gray is different from Haymitch and Katniss and Peeta because her tragedy is she caused the games to continue. If the games hadn't become entertaining, they wouldn't have continued and she made it entertaining because she was an entertainer - she saved herself but she doomed dozens more because she performed too well and it allowed the Capitol to make the games a performance in the later years. Haymitch's tragedy is that he couldn't end the games, Lucy Gray's is that she continued them.

Comparing Haymitch and Katniss' narrative styles is so funny to me because he's a yapper and she's a gatekeeper. He drops more lore on D12 in the first two chapters of SOTR than she does in the entire trilogy.

Haymitch is like "Yeah, so this person is related to this person who's related to this person and things are this way because of this and this thing actually came from here and this person is actually my best friend and also here's this extra tidbit of random info cause all my lore dropping comes with it's own additional bonus content and all my unnecessary commentary."

And Katniss is over here like "Tf do I care for if y'all know all the lore of District 12? I'm talking about my beautiful husband's beautiful eyelashes."

haymitch and katniss parallels this. haymitch and katniss parallels that. they are the same person in a slightly different font, we know this. but sotr also brought out a lot of parallels between haymitch and peeta.

social kids who seem to genuinely enjoy the company of others. good in front of the crowd and the cameras. sense of humor. long game strategists. not entering the games with any goal of survival, but instead a desire to make their deaths mean something. choosing what kind of poster to paint, not wanting to be another piece in their games.

yes, haymitch and katniss have a unique understanding of each other that borders on telepathy, but i think this book really showcased how much he understands peeta as well, and probably why he’s so willing to support him in the way he chooses to play the games.

Katniss and Peeta's feast in the cave comes with silverware and plates. I always found this odd- it seemed as if it would have inflated the cost frivolously. I figured it had something to do with standards in the captiol, especially with how Effie remarks about table manners on the train.

no. it was haymitch both honoring Maysilee and continuing her poster.

Imagine being 16 years old and corraled into a strange house to have a tête-á-tête with the president-dictator of the country where he stops his thinly veiled threats halfway through the conversation when you tell him your girlfriends name and then he goes into a weirdly personal rant about the women of her ethnic group and how they scheme and lie and she never actually loved me-I mean YOU, and you're just nodding along doing your best to not get brutally murdered on live television the way he pinky prommied you would if you keep fucking up his child death extravaganza. Happened to my good friend Haymitch
