and here's the thing: izzy was a father figure - to the crew. you want a sexually charged mentor dynamic? we already had it. the dynamic of those first three episodes really is that izzy got the kids in the divorce. he bled for them, sacrificed himself for them, tried to guide them even when he was deteriorating mentally. and the crew responded by being fiercely loyal to him.

frenchie leaning on him in the cell, the image of wanting to both protect and be protected. jim, ripping into blackbeard for being so incredibly cruel to izzy. even with lucius, the not moving on is worse scene is izzy going to lucius and saying i'm older than you, i've been where you are now, and this is what you need to do in order to survive it.

the izzy of season two was free of blackbeard. the izzy of season two belonged to his crew, body and soul, and it should have been them sitting by his side, holding his hand, and crying over him. begging him not to go because they still needed him. because they did still need him.

It would have made more sense if whenever Stede and Ed stayed on land, Izzy became the new captain of the Revenge. As a parallel to season 1, except this time he has the crew's trust and is ready to take on the position without Blackbeard. THAT is what they could have done with his character development instead of throwing it away for a cheap emotional scene. Like he could have still been gravely injured so he and Ed could have that heart to heart but actually killing him was just unnecessary

They could have made out like he was dying, with the blood and the cradling and etc ---- but then after the big heart to heart he's still alive, and Stede's like "not to be, um, insensitive, but... does this feel to anyone else like it's taking an awful long time?"

And then Ed's like, "yeah actually it is. wait. Hang on. It's on the left. He was shot on the left! He's gonna be fine! Guys he was shot on the left there's nothing important in there, he's gonna be ok!!!!"

And that way we get all the same emotional bits, but then they doubly tie it back to season one; both with Ed retiring and Izzy being the new captain, just like was discussed, AND a re-feature of the whole empty-left-side thing.

THAT would have been good.

What we got was just lazy.

This moment brought tears to my eyes from laughing so hard.

His voice doesn't even sound like Rhys' nor Stede's. If I heard just the audio I never would have connected it.

Stede getting his fine clothes back, his ship back, Ed back, changed him. Something possessed Rhys Darby in this episode because his performance in his fancy clothes is unmatched.

he was giving this

"Oh you're sorry ??? I'll give you something to be sorry about !!!"

*proceeds to bonk ed on the head (repeatedly)"

i really LOVE this show’s consistency in not giving a single fuck about historical accuracy. like yes wedding cake toppers during 1700s totally make sense go on

everyone is always acting like there is some crisis of human interaction with one another because everyone is overly sensitive to how strangers approach them and like. no actually its because nobody has any fucking manners. social etiquette has legitimately vanished. it makes interacting with strangers miserable because people don’t know how to fucking behave in public.

like it is rude to stare. it is rude to point. it is rude to have a loud phone conversation in a quiet place. it’s rude to listen to music or videos or whatever on your device with no headphones on a loud volume, or at any volume in an enclosed or quiet space. these are rude things to do. like i’m sorry while some etiquette is silly, an acceptable level of decorum is necessary to make existing in public bearable for everybody…….it is LITERALLY common courtesy

Also, do not fucking photograph or film people without their consent!
