THOUGHT FROM A THOT
and this one was actually prompted by a post that @richtofen2015 made! the post in question said that Edward would like blueberry pie, which made me remember a thought I had about him!
HERE WE GO
Because he was so young when they passed, Edward doesn’t have many memories of his family, or the things they used to do together. But there is one memory that he holds dear to his heart- the memory of his father, bringing little Edward and his sister Ilse out in the midst of autumn to go apple picking.
He remembers his father holding him up on his shoulders, letting him reach as high as he could to get the apples from the tall branches. He remembers Ilse helping him to carry the basket full of apples until it got to be too heavy for them, at which point their father took over carrying duty. He remembers Ilse being frightened by a bee that had flown at her as she had picked some flowers near the base of a tree, and how he jumped in front of his big sister to protect her from the offending insect.
He remembers returning home with their bounty of apples, where their mother was waiting with her gentle smile on her face. He remembers how he and his sister excitedly bounced up to her, telling her how they got the all the reddest apples they could find. He remembers sitting impatiently as he watched his mother carefully crafting those apples into a pie, because she knew that it was her son’s favorite. He remembers how she lifted him up to eye level at the counter, where he helped her knead the dough. And he remembers the scent so distinctly- that scent of apple and sugar and cinnamon- drifting through the house, taunting him while he waited for it to cool.
He remembers the feeling of warmth that filled his young heart, not just from the pastry, but from the family that surrounded him.
hello friends it’s time for another edition of
thought from a thot
This time about Edward and his family!
So from the very little in game information we have about Edward and his childhood, people have been able to piece together that he was around ten years old when his parents passed away
What’s never come up again is the mention of what happened to his sister
Ultimis Edward has a quote (I forget which map it’s from) where he mentions crushing his sisters matryoshka dolls to make her cry when they were children, but after that one brief mention, it seems that her existence was retconned from the universe entirely. Leaving us free to speculate on what happened to her, or if she even existed at all.
My theory is that she was Edward’s older sister, named Ilse. She was around two years older than him, and he always suffered ‘second child syndrome’ as a result of being the little brother. It wasn’t that his parents neglected him- not by any means. They adored both of their children, and treated them wonderfully. But Edward, just by virtue of being younger, always felt that their attention was never evenly divided. Whenever he saw Ilse getting attention, he wanted it too. Which was partly what led to him breaking her toys- half was genuine curiosity in figuring out how they were put together, but the other half was simply wanting the attention, even if it ended up getting him in trouble. Despite this, Ilse always loved her little Eddie, and always shared her toys regardless of how they ended up. And he loved her as well, even if he had a strange way of showing it.
Sadly, Ilse met the same fate as Edward’s parents would meet later in his life. When he was around four and she was around six years old, she fell ill. In an attempt to prevent Edward from catching her illness, their parents kept him at home while she was in an infirmary. He only got to visit her once before she succumbed to her illness, but she made a point to tell him that she would always love her little brother. The reason Edward never speaks of her is because he simply does not want to relive losing his sister.
