Oh wow, thanks for sharing! Did he self insert or was Sherlock Holmes based on him 😏? I always assumed Watson was an Arthur Conan Doyle self insert.

The thing about Sherlock Holmes is that practically every adaptation you can think of has been done in some form. Every scenario, format, medium, it’s all there. He has at least three sisters, in varying levels of evilness. He’s been young, he’s been old, he’s been gay, straight, and aro/ace. He’s been Victorian, he’s been modern, he’s been a doctor, an asshole, a woman, a gnome. He’s been frozen in ice a la Steve Rogers and reanimated in the 21st century. He’s fallen off cliffs and in love. He’s thwarted every criminal known to man. He’s done quite literally everything there is to be done and yet there’s always, always more to write.

Hats off to you, Doyle, my admiration is yours, may you loath your own creation with all the vehemence with which we love him.

but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?

genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.

LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.

a talking point i often see when defending the consumption of dark content is that it’s a coping mechanism for those with trauma which is very valid and true but i also want to make this abundantly clear: you can like dark content for no reason. you can enjoy fucked up shit in fiction because it’s enjoyable and entertaining. trauma is not required as a ticket for entry. enjoy your dark content bc it’s fun and sexy and don’t let anyone take that away from you

i've begun commenting far more on fanfics recently (and if i don't have the capacity and like the fanfic, i try to remember to leave kudos). because i want a community; and one has to lead by example. a little kindness can go along way. people do remember. because i've always written to be heard, and if i can give that to someone else. it could be returned tenfold down the road. though, i'm not expecting any replies etc, it'll at least motivate others to do the same step in courage. because i used to be very nervous about commenting on ao3 for over a decade.
