I post between major life emergencies

Chat they made Minecraft into a silly goofy cringe movie even through Minecraft is actually about life and earth and the universe and tearing meaning out of the ground and molding it with your hands into something that you can be proud of. They made the pink sheep look ugly and funny for a cheap laugh when it should’ve been a beautiful moment where you, age eleven, come across this rarity, this beautiful anomaly and you hold its face in your hands and stare into its chocolate brown eyes and you realize what the whole world is about. Chat they made it into a joke

it is a moral imperative that you steal your sister from her boyfriend, and fast. you're not gonna let some pathetic man steal all her firsts, are you??? that's right. now get out there and knock her up honey!!!

Plot of Oldboy is Dae-Su had kept quiet.

From the article:

Global emissions of local air pollutants have probably passed their peak. The chart shows estimates of global emissions of pollutants such as sulphur dioxide (which causes acid rain), nitrogen oxides, and black and organic carbon. These pollutants are harmful to human health and can also damage ecosystems. It looks like emissions have peaked for almost all of these pollutants. Global air pollution is now falling, and we can save many lives by accelerating this decline.

While air pollution hasn't peaked everywhere, things will only get better from here if trends in cleaner energy and manufacturing continue.

This is one of those examples of slow progress in solving a big problem that doesn't get celebrated, even though it represents a huge step for human health and well-being.

NeverfuckingMIND who I reblogged this from, LOOK!

IDEAL: 1973 The Amazing Spider-Man Playset

Okay, I recognize most of these people, but who the heck is this guy? He looks way too fit to be Uncle Ben, so…?

Okay, a quick google search says that’s Flash Thompson, but they obviously got his hair wrong.

Wait a minute.

Stark white hair...orange jacket over yellow shirt...SCARY DARK PLACES?!

IT'S SKIP FUCKING WESTCOTT!

hello fellow non-Black tumblr users. welcome to my saw trap. if you'd like to leave, please name one (1) Black woman author who is not Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, bell hooks, Octavia Butler, or N.K. Jemisin. bonus points if she's published a book in the last five years.

posted this four hours ago and the notes are. genuinely dire.s

special shoutout also to the people who mention Ta-Nehesi Coates and Tochi Onyebuchi who are also both men

Alice Walker? And Wanda Sykes wrote at least two books.

Superman #24 - "Lex & Mercy" (2025)

written by Joshua Williamson art by Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira, & Alejandro Sanchez

Aw man. I liked when Lex and Mercy had respectable distance and no romantic interest in each other. Like Lex realized Mercy was a human weapon and should be used accordingly, and Mercy liked be recognized for what she was good at.

NO combat? During the height of the empire?

I mean, props for following your dream, but where's the game where I can swing a scimitar at some Bulgarian's head while riding at full gallop?

I am finding out that a lot of things I thought were common knowledge about Christian Fundamentalism are not in fact common knowledge.

Like with the aid freeze, people were like why would they do this? And I was like cause they want churches to be the only option for aid.

And people were shocked. And I was also shocked that this wasn't like...more well known. I grew up with people who were anti-aid because they felt that belonged to the church and made people behave more worldly if they could get it elsewhere. It was so well known it was a debate topic in my Philosophy of Religion course in high school.

I'm just...I'm concerned at how little some groups seem to know about Christian Fundamentalism. I wish I could help translate more.

Yes! I've heard this as well!

One of my friends asked if they wanted people to die and I was so confused because yes, of course they do. That's a feature not a bug.

People in my church would talk about people who needed aid but didn't or couldn't work as parasites who represented an active threat to able bodied and working people. It's a zero sum game to them.

It's the coming eugenics that is in those thoughts processes that is really upsetting to me.

I grew up non-mormon in Utah and studied religion and I didn't not no until a few years ago that Fundamentalists don't think Catholics are Christian, it blew my mind.

Also, this article was helpful in understanding why they seem to think empathy is a sin. It's so bonkers and backwards!

You shouldn't need to know about Evangelical Christians to know about this, this is the justification that Republicans have been using since Reagan to oppose and defund social programs. The idea that charity should be personal, that it should be done by churches and private charities--that it should be charity and not an "entitlement" or a "government handout" has been the way Republicans have framed this for at least forty years.

And yeah, the Evangelicals/Fundamentalists champion it, but it is pretty standard across the board in Republican circles and has been for my entire life.

When I moved to the bible belt in the US, I was amazed. Some things that amazed me (have lived in multiple places out west, a couple countries in Europe, New England previously-- some of these ideas exist vaguely elsewhere but the ones numbered stand out):

  1. There is no value in charity when government does it, because if you are forced to pay taxes and those taxes do the charity, you aren't making that decision, and apparently the decision to give is more important than the value of the help to poor people (no matter how much more efficient it could be than a food pantry- and those must be inefficient as food is bought retail and often in the smallest and most expensive packages).
  2. The person receiving the charity should feel a mix of gratitude and shame directly to those giving it, and those are a feature and not a bug as they are supposed to encourage them to work harder and not, I don't know, feel self-loathing.
  3. I'm adding this because I will wherever I can- people I had previously enjoyed and admired said they were looking forward to the Rapture (the American fundamentalist bible add-on fanfic where the holy are taken up into Heaven and the unholy left for the apocalypse) because they wanted to point and laugh at the people left behind from their smug rising-ness.

This is what changed the fundamentalist church for me from weird to Evil. Because for 3 there could be no Rapture simply because anyone who would gloat could not be raptured* by a just god. The idea that charity is for the giver to benefit and not for the poor is critical. And yet when you spend time in a church, they will absolutely group up to do a meal at a shelter or give presents out to christian kids they approve of, but even in the bible belt there are not enough churches to even supplement what the government does for poor people, much less if the government got out of the game, plus they often tell you not to trust people "work for food" and such, the Prosperity Gospel idea that richness shows virtue and poverty the lack thereof being firmly instilled, and the Good Old Boys network giving out jobs to those we know (which does happen even with controls supposedly on it, more than any other way to give jobs) so there is little help getting people out of poverty. *it's a verb here and not capitalised. Weird, no? Not the only weirdness

So many are motivated, not by a desire to help, but by a desire to feel superior.

It's a well-known fact at this point that there was an alternate ending for 1999's American Beauty where Jane and Ricky are accused of Lester's murder, with Ricky's videos being used as key evidence (the fact that he and Jane were apparently trying to flee the state probably didn't help).

Now, the ostensible reason for excluding this ending is that an extra thirty minutes tacked on the the back end of the film would take the shine off of the perfect note that Lester's death and closing narration provide. Plus, a presumably dreary series of courtroom scenes leading to Frank getting away with murder AND pinning it on his own son and his victim's daughter would have left a terrible taste in the whole audience's mouth. An ending that needlessly cruel could have potentially cost DreamWorks the best picture Oscar that year.

HOWEVER, I think there's a second, more subtle, and MUCH more American problem that somebody must have considered. Between OJ, the Menendez Brothers, and every show that tried to draft behind Law and Order, the viewing audience of 1999 would have twigged onto a glaring detail of a potential Burnham murder case: the gun Frank used. Surely that was the weapon submitted into evidence against Ricky and Jane. However, we know that Ricky never held it. The gun MUST have been checked for prints, and the fact that Frank isn't already on trial suggests that he wiped the gun down. HOWEVER, that fact alone still plays to the accused's favor, because it goes to ability: if Ricky had the presence of mind to remove evidence from the murder weapon, why would he not first destroy the tape that apparently shows him suggesting they kill Frank in the first place?

In a culture that LOVES legal procedurals, PLUS with the burgeoning forum culture of the internet at the time, this would have become one of those nitpicks that follows a story for it's whole existence, like how anybody heard Kane say "Rosebud", or why Buzz in Toy Storystays inanimate around Andy despite not knowing he's a toy.

This has been another edition of me thinking way too hard about versions of the world that don't exist.

One of my least favorite parts of the Interesting Times is the fact that there's stuff coming out that clearly sucks (Snow White remake, Assassin's Creed Shadows), but because of culture, there's one group that says a thing sucks because if insufficient white people, and while it can't be argued that thing thing is ass, you don't wanna say it because you don't want to be accused of agreeing with those people.

Hey so I'm already on e but might switch from gel to injections soon. Would it be fine if I imagine you giving me the injections when I do?

Yeah! I’ll make sure you become such a pretty girl, cutie

Wait, they have estrogen in gel form now? I thought that they only made testosterone gel?

The 90s-00s nostalgia industrial complex. Hell.

you and every other person who has chosen to voice nostalgic sentimentalities about any other period in history have completely missed my point. nostalgia cannot save you. you are beholden to a reactionary impulse. march into the future without cowardice or die longing for a past that can never be reclaimed.

Thinking the past was just better and that we should, somehow, "return to it" is a train of course.

But if there's stuff from the past you're willing to bring into the present on it's own merits and not because it's got the comfortable miasma of memory to it, that's valid.

To site a HEAVILY superficial example, I own several shirts that could be described as "80's/90s arcade floor pattern". This isn't because I miss arcades-playing games at home is better, I could never afford to spend more than 20 minutes in an arcade to begin with, and those old games were unfair and kinda shitty anyway-but because I legitimately vibe more with random shapes accompanied by squiggles and lines than with solid colors or patterns.

Mash timeloop people, how do characters deaths/leaving work in the theory?

You get to leave when you accept something you've been denying.

Frank left when he realized he could never be with Margaret in a real way.

Radar left when he figured out that he was a grown-up.

Trapper left a little bit after getting the ulcer that was due to stress from missing his family and drinking too much; he'd been lying to himself about being content with being a malcontent.

Even Henry, as the helicopter was spinning into the sea, had to accept something: that he had never been fit to serve.

i enjoy your posts about the 40k setting. am new to the series and while reading lore i was caught off guard by slaanesh's daemonettes being full-on transmisogynistic caricatures. slaanesh's general "born of degeneracy" storyline is offputting no matter how much gw want to lean into the "excess" part of it

yea as i always say about these things 40k is set in a world in which Fascism Is True. if you are too hedonistic and 'degenerate'¹ your society will literally collapse on a cosmic scale, that is just factually true in the universe of 40k

¹40k fans will often say 'well it wasn't REALLY about sex, it was about torturemurderslavery', to which i say, it is always presented in the language of hedonistic degenerate decadence innit

I always thought that if 40k was more focused on it's narrative works and not raking in buckets of money from the tabletop, they could tell some story that draws the line between "three S consensual healthy self-expression" queer and Slaaneshi sould cancer. Like there' a difference between the Ultramarine who's stomping Tyranid heads while plugged and caged, or the Sister of Battle that used to be a Night Raven, or the Commisar who has one of his Infantryman's initials tattooed kn his shaft, versus the priaprisim-cursed Dark Eldar who's shiskebabed a series of infants and small animals while wearing a necklace of crystallized AIDS.
