I'm trying so hard and get my shit together and finish these (months old 🫣) commissions. Some of these bears I'd already oiled up, but added another coat since I had to oil some newer bears.
The basswood bears are gonna end up painted. But I'm most proud of this bear.
I've tried before to make polar bears, but their faces are so much different than your typical fatass brown bear. I think I pulled it off for the most part.
Hopefully the oil will hurry up and dry in a couple of days so I can get to painting them, already. These, along with some other bears that aren't pictured, are intended as freebies to go along with the actual commissions.

usually when i wake up to 99+ notifications, its because a big blog has reblogged one of my posts, which is fun because it means that more people are getting to see these wonderful, majestic, and supremely silly beasts.
sometimes, though, i wake up to 99+ notifications because 1-3 people have discovered my blog and decided to scroll through all of my posts, spam liking and reblogging them, because they too are Unwell About The Bears™️.
and that? that is an absolute delight. it always makes my day.
89 Backpack and 28E playing bitey face again!! i love how playful Backpack is, even though he's 18.5 years old & most other boars would have grown out of playing by now.
Brown bears at Katmai that make it to adulthood typically live to their mid-late 20s! in fact, Backpack here is just getting to the age where boars start to seriously contend for top spots in hierarchy, though he in particular is a laid back boar who tolerates other bears more than most boars of his age do.
The oldest bear we saw last season, as far as i am aware, is 477 Sara! She is an easy bear to identify, given that 9 of her 10 front claws are ivory-white, and she was first identified as an adult in 2001. Since she was not identified as a young adult/older subadult, we can assume she was 6 or 7 when she was identified, which would make her about 29 or 30 years old when we saw her last year!

yes. sexually mature male bears are called Boars and sexually mature female bears are called Sows.

and that's the end of that -- I had a great time, and i hope y'all did too! Now i am back into hibernation until either the cams start up again in mid-late may or my life settles down enough that I have time to make all of the ID posts and bear cam history posts i want to do.
