Kay Claire. Artist. Comic creator. Author. 29 years old. South African. Queer. He/They www.kayworx.com

Hi! I’m Kay (He/They), I’m a queer independent author and comic creator from South Africa.

I have a webcomic called Until Sunset that’s available on Tapas and Webtoons. It’s a m/m fantasy romance about a boy who finds an injured merman on the beach.

I have a bunch of NSFW doujinshi about these two characters (plus one that's about new characters including an octopus merman) over on my Patreon too.

And I’ve also self-published three books, one called All Roads Lead to This, which is a cis m/trans m romance about two childhood friends that go on a roadtrip through South Africa together:

And my second book Wish Lists Lead to This is a romance between a non-binary masc person (demi-boy) and a cis man, who have to live together while they foster some kittens:

All the links for where to read both books are here

My third book is The Full Moon Problem, a cosy spicy werewolf romance featuring a trans M main character and a cis M love interest:

This book is available on Kindle Unlimited.

I drew the cover work for all the books listed above. If you'd like to commission me for character art (I do private and commercial) or book covers, you can find my price lists on my website.

Some tags on here you might want to check out to see my art: my art, my sketchbook, my books

hey! donate to uk trans charities today because it’s gonna be a rough one

Folks in the UK, could we have some trusted links to charities?

There's Mermaids which is always a great option, and then Scotland-specific there's LGBT Youth Scotland, to give you just a couple. There will absolutely be more that other people can suggest though!

switchboard.lgbt and akt.org.uk are two i regularly support, and there’s always stonewall !

trans aid cymru is a mutual aid group rather than a charity but ill always shout them out for wales specific trans community support! they have a donation page here

Scottish Trans Alliance do good work, and more locally to me and also locally to the evil billionaire funding so much of this (we are deeply uneasy neighbours I live in constant fear of seeing her) and also Parliament, Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh do a lot of community work. Resistance is everywhere, both national and local, official and grassroots, and if you have no money spare to donate then you can donate time, if you have neither you can - you Must - reach out to even just one trans person near you, because community starts with smiling at your neighbours, knowing names, noticing if they're struggling. I survived thanks to one queer person I never knew the name of and spoke barely one sentence to taking 10 minutes out of their day to drop off an LGBTQ youth centre flier for me back in 2016. It starts small. It moves mountains. We are not budging an inch. I love you.

The Full Moon Problem by Kay Claire

Felix was raised by a family who upheld traditional medicine over all modern medicine – so when he turned 18 and started transitioning, Felix had to run away from home if he wanted to live his authentic life. Now, ten years later, he’s surprised when his aunt passes away and leaves him a house, far from the place he left. Leaving an unfulfilling life in London to give country living a try, Felix is soon overwhelmed by the amount of books on folk medicine and gardening his aunt left to him. Wanting to reconnect with her memory, Felix decides to give the family craft he’s always shunned a try, and soon the locals are asking him for the remedies they had relied on when his aunt was alive. One of those locals is Declan, the handsome deliveryman who immediately catches Felix’s eye. Declan is shy and reclusive, but Felix manages to chip away at Declan’s walls and soon discovers his secret: Declan is a werewolf who loses control on full moons, and only a potion Felix’s aunt used to make can help him gain back that control. Felix is determined to make this potion correctly and help Declan… and maybe fall in love in the process?

Hey guys let me tell you about advance fee scams

I hope y'all are familiar with these in this day and age, especially my artists out there, because they're incredibly common.

About half an hour ago I posted a drawing and tagged it #artists on tumblr, and very quickly received this comment.

My scam radar went off immediately, due to the generic blog name and lack of any emotion in the comment, but I decided it might be an entertaining venture so I dmed them. They asked for a drawing "of these", and sent me a random selfie. I got the details and told them it would be $15, and they promptly offered me $300. At this point I know it's a scam, but I play along for funsies and give them my paypal. Shortly, they send me this image for "confirmation" (I blocked out my email)

And they began to insist that I checked my email. I looked in my spam folder and found the following email.

This is fake. This is not a thing. And the "you're to refund the $200.00 back" is the scam. They send vaguely official-looking emails at you to "prove" that they sent you the money, then have you send them $200 (or however much the scam is for). Then, surprise surprise, you're out $200.

I continued to play along for a bit, and in the second email "Paypal" told me that I had to refund the $200 before they could "credit the $300 to my account", along with these lovely threats.

And yeah, it's silly. But it's not silly if you don't know and get scammed. So. Spread, please! And thank you very much to @mlaurel for the opportunity to get these screenshots.

This is a variation on a much older scam that often results in the victim being out money and also out whatever they were selling. It goes something like this:

- victim posts an item for sale on craigslist or w/e

- scammer contacts asking if a check is ok

- scammer then asks if they can write a check for more than the agreed-upon price and for the seller to give them the overage back as cash, often with some excuse about it being an out-of-state bank, they don't have a card and need some cash for something else, or whatever.

- scammer gives check, gets cash and item, and bounces

- guess what the check does, too

ANY kind of structure where you supposedly get money but have to give some of it back to someone should twig your scam radar, frankly.

Reblogging because some people need to refresh their scam radar, or start building theirs. I see far too many people fall for traps, and don't dare say for a second "this will never happen to me" because all it takes is a momentary lapse in judgement.

(X-Files theme plays in the distance)

I know we're all passing around the same $5 in this hellscape so what a great time to share that I am now offering a paid tier newsletter. tbh I do not make enough money from my books to pay my bills. that's just a fact. I am putting out 1-2 titles every year, working harder than I ever have, and it's not cutting it. So this is step 1 in a longterm plan that will hopefully give my income a small boost and give me more control over certain parts of my career.

First issue is all about this book and who the main characters are! Spoilers: I tricked tradpub into publishing my old man yaoi.

If you sign up in the next few months, use code FRIEND25 for half off the first couple newsletter

wait hold on is it old man yaoi if an old man is involved or do they both have to be old men

shit ton of people are repeating the thing about hayao miyazaki saying AI art is an "insult to life itself" and just as a reminder he was talking about the zombies that team made that were intended to be scary in how much they shook, but instead reminded him of his disabled friend. the insult to life itself was referring to the team trying to make scary real symptoms that people live with.

it was a quote about ableism. if he has said other things about AI type stuff, that is a different thing. but that specific quote was about ableism.

this is the full quote.

His actual answer to AI is this which is just a few seconds after the insult to life speech. [source]

The crux of the anti trans movement is a war on bodily autonomy. They don't want you to have any agency over what you look like, how you dress, who you date, whether to have kids, etc.

They want total control over you. Not just trans people. Not just queer people. You. Everyone.

Trans people are just a scapegoat. They want total control over everyone's self expression. They want the right to mold you into their perfect little cog in their dehumanizing machine.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility. Our rights are your rights. Our destruction is your destruction.

Reading chapter 34 of @kay-claire’s Wish Lists Lead to This and SOBBING.

Also chapter 35.

Me @ Seb & JJ right now:

And of course, it all turned out well, and the ending was completely adorable, and I loved it, but I am who I am, alright? I freak out over books I’m invested in, and this series, for all it is low-stakes* and whatnot, had me in a chokehold because I love these characters so much and needed them to be happy, damn it.

Anyway, if you haven’t checked out the Leads to This series, by @kay-claire, please do! It’s sweet, hot, awesomely queer, and well worth your time.

*Yeah, hi, in case you couldn’t tell from *gestures to my entire blog*, “low-stakes” is never a thing for me when I care about a book and its characters. If I’m invested, even the little things, good or bad, will have me bawling my eyes out.

This still blows my mind

I will happily delete this if I’m derailing or taking away from the original message (initially I put this in the tags, but a friend asked me to reblog as text)

If you don't want to pursue an autism or adhd diagnosis and you have access to a doctor or therapist you can get them to write you a note attesting to a symptom of your neurodivergence (rather than naming the condition itself) and stating the need for accommodation.

It's something my therapist told me about when we were still working in offices. I have sensory processing issues and on multiple occasions the noise in my office was so bad I broke the skin on my hand clenching my fist.

This work-around of course won't fix structural ableism and relies on you having access to a doctor/therapist who actually gives a crap, so still might only help a couple of folks.

Thats a good add on

oh YES

sad that it requires a workaround like this but I'm glad it exists

they calls us crazy when the "normal" system is organized like either you are recognized as a human being or you are given the help you need
