Slight Art / Bad Brain rant

It's always fun when you're super proud of a piece of art and start thinking "oh, I can actually draw after all!" and then the very next thing you do makes you want to yeet your drawing tablet out a window 🫠 Please tell me I'm not the only one dealing with a dumb brain lol

Slight context: I have a wonderful Ask on the Cleanup Crew sitting in my inbox asking about their encounters with Error and!! I'm so excited to work on it!! There's so much lore in my brain I decided I wanna make it a proper little comic (like 4-ish pages to start?), but I've never done something that long before, and I'm still struggling with perspective and consistency. Every time I draw these goobers they look different. Plus there'll be 3 new Cleanup Crew characters in the comic that I haven't fully figured out designs for yet.

All that to say: I'm struggling lol. I really really wanna make this comic, but I've drawn and erased the same panel about 6 times. At this rate it'll be a month before I get it done. I feel horrible about leaving an Ask sitting there for that long, but I also wanna do it justice!

This is my entry for @callmeherry's DTIYS! My brain went 'what if the strings were around his legs instead of his arms' and... this happened lol. Might be too far from the original prompt, but I had lots of fun making it. I'm very proud of how it turned out.

Despite being the senior member, Ion is definitely the one who no-clips into things the most. Jans could warn him, but it's more fun to stand back and watch.

Here's Jans' most handsome coworker, the great 'Ion' Papyrus! He's been in the Multiversal Integrity Restoration Agency ("It's called MIRA, not Multiverse Cleanup Crew, JANS! Stop confusing people!") way longer than Jans, and has taken it upon himself to teach his new colleague the ropes. Too bad Jans is more interested in learning party tricks with his mop than actually working...

Ion joined MIRA after his older brother disappeared in a 'freak lab accident'. Ion knows that if he travels the multiverse and learns more about the sort of glitch that caused Sans' disappearance, then he will find his brother one day.

I am actually super happy with how he turned out omg. Also I'm starting to standardize the uniforms, but each character has the wiggle room to personalize theirs somewhat. Jan's 'tired janitor' bit isn't the official uniform 😂 Ion wanted to feel like a comic book superhero, so his Soul Guard is on full display.

I committed! Here's Jans from my Cleanup Crew AU idea, where a bunch of outcodes/multiverse-aware incodes work as the multiverses' most under-appreciated and underpaid janitors. They clean up glitches left behind botched resets, outcode interference, or messy coding by the Creators. Nothing truly world-ending, just, you know... stopping people from no-clipping through reality. Or getting stuck in a dialogue loop for an hour.

Jans is short for Janitor, because he took one look at Ion's 'cool multiverse job' at the Multiversal Integrity Restoration Agency (MIRA) and called them all glorified custodians. He signed on after he discovered a Papyrus who didn't belong to his AU walking around fixing stray glitches. There wasn't anything left for him back home anyways.

He doesn't actually need the mop for his job. He had Alphys make it anyways, because it's great for A) sleeping without getting caught, B) annoying Ion, and C) smacking Error across the face to give himself a running head start. That is one glitch he is not being paid enough to handle.

I'm slow AF, but gonna keep working on this because I have so many ideas!

Not sure if this has been done already but:

A group of outcodes/multiverse-aware incodes whose day job is being the multiverses' glorified janitors. They travel between AUs taking care of the glitches left behind by botched resets, outcode interference, or messy coding by the Creator.

I'm not talking the major, world-ending kind of glitches. Those are left up to Ink and the more powerful outcodes. I'm talking the stupid little glitches that most couldn't be bothered to fix because they're just silly.

Like, a doorknob feeling like jello instead of solid metal.

Or a single square meter in Snowdin where the gravity is 50% less than it should be.

On a really exciting day, they get to rescue someone who no-clipped through the floor.

They probably have some cool acronym for a name but Sans (nicknamed Jans, for Janitor!) keeps calling them the Multiverse's Clean-Up Crew and the name's stuck. The staff aren't from any particular AU, and Clean-Up Crew is always hiring because oh my stars is the multiverse broken.

Aesthetic is somewhere between cyberpunk and a janitor's outfit. Maybe I'll draw some stuff for Jans and his coworkers when I get a moment!

Specifically to the UTMV fandom! Found the Underverse animations by Jakei, and fell right down the rabbithole. What are some things a newbie should know? Required reading material? I've picked through the art tags and AO3, but still figuring stuff out!!

Quinn: Half-Elf, Oath of Vengeance Paladin. Neutral Good. Aligned with the Church of Tyr and searching for the army commander who ordered the destruction of her village.

Soot (born Sylla): Lightfoot Halfling, Circle of Land Druid / Rogue. Chaotic Good. Was separated from her family's druid caravan and learned how to survive on the streets. Usually covered in dirt.

Lilith: Human, Great Old One Warlock. True Neutral. Turns up where there's danger and aids the heroes — after her patron finishes feeding on the fear, of course. (Patron based on The Eye from The Magnus Archives)
