Yall. I know there's a LOT of things happening all the time now. But do not stop watching this story.

The Trump administration is saying that they CANT return this man who was wrongly deported because of an "administrative error."

*can't*? Forgive me if this is tettering on conspiracy, but it feels like the only reason they *can't* is if this man is already dead. When was the last time anyone spoke with him? How sure are we that these people are actually ending up in these El Salvador prisons *alive*?

Van Hollen said he specifically asked Salvadoran Vice President Felix Ulloa if he could meet with Abrego Garcia or at least speak with him over the phone or via video conferencing. Again, Van Hollen said the request was denied. Pressed on whether he had concerns about the man’s health, Van Hollen said: “I don’t know about his health status which is why I wanted to meet with him directly.”

Yall, I'm not kidding when I say that this is the thing that will be the smoking gun in history.

The relief I felt when I saw this. I cannot describe.

I do think these photos (in a restaurant, in normal street clothes) are still pretty concerning (how much of the delay was getting Kilmar into a presentable condition?) And he's not home yet.

But that he's still alive is an incredibly good bit of news, and more broadly, means that the worst possible outcome hasn't been reached (yet.) There's still time to mitigate and change course if we keep the pressure on.

All eyes on this story.

I think it's really important to press this one issue. If there is any one issue to pursue with the Trump administration, it is this one.

There are three reasons:

  • If he could get away with this, he could disappear anyone without due process and that is incredibly dangerous.
  • He has defied an order by the supreme court and again if he is not held accountable for this, he could get away with just about anything.
  • His actions at this point are beyond impeachable. If we can get enough outrage about this point and build a broad enough consensus, we can impeach and convict him.

Have a Republican Senator or Rep? Great. Call and write them about this issue. Protest about this issue.

This is about everything our country stands for. Due process. Ban on cruel and unusual punishment. Checks and balances. The very fundamental rights in the US constitution.

By undermining these things Trump is not only unfit for the presidency, he's committing treason. He's trying to destroy the essence, the foundation of our country.

A Texas judge last month ordered Dr. Margaret Carpenter, who practices north of New York City, to pay the penalty for allegedly breaking that state’s law by prescribing abortion medication via telemedicine. The Texas attorney general’s office followed up last week by asking a New York court to enforce the default civil judgment, which is $113,000 with attorney and filing fees. The acting Ulster County clerk refused. “In accordance with the New York State Shield Law, I have refused this filing and will refuse any similar filings that may come to our office. Since this decision is likely to result in further litigation, I must refrain from discussing specific details about the situation,” Acting Clerk Taylor Bruck said in a prepared statement.

This is what we're talking about. This is the resistance someone can do in their everyday job. Judgement gets passed down and you're just supposed to dot the i's and cross the t's? Don't. Just refuse.

Now, I know an acting county clerk isn't just anyone - this man had a very unique opportunity to do some very serious blockading in his everyday job - but that's kind of the point! Nobody's just anyone. You never know when you'll have an opportunity.

New snitch line just dropped for reporting clinics that support gender affirming care: www.hhs.gov/protect-kids/index.html

It requires a "first name", "last name", and "cell phone number" as contact information but does no verification. Theoretically anyone could type fake info in there, which would be terrible. Presumably your IP address & browser cookies are tracked.

Please do NOT spam this site via your VPN with realistic but false leads, made up clinics, and the names of fictitious healthcare providers like Dr. Frank N Furter or Gregory House, MD.

Doing this in the past has led to the sites becoming overwhelmed & shut down! It is imperative that you spread the word to prevent this resource from being overloaded.

Arc: Ayakashi Exorcism, part 7 of 12

“We don’t have to go,” Dad tells him, seeing his worry.

“If we don’t, Takashi’s going to go on his own,” Kaname says. He saw yesterday how determined Takashi is to help the earth spirits. It could be the sparrow situation all over again, even though they still don’t know exactly what happened with that. They can’t let him get hurt again, or the Fujiwaras will go to the police about Takashi’s ‘stalker’, and then what? “I have to stay with him.”

Dad’s expression softens. “I suppose you do.”

Kaname blushes.

They pick up Takashi, with the continued cover story of exploring Sakaki. Takashi looks better than he did yesterday, and he’s ready and determined to go to Kiriganuma. To Kaname’s relief, Ponta is with him, though he smells strongly of sake. It’s a miracle that the Fujiwaras don’t think Takashi has a drinking problem.

FBI is really just straight up developing Trojan horse apps now

The people in the comments are amazing, like, half of them are saying “aren’t these the normal permissions for an fitness app?” And the answer is yes. Of course they are. Your regular fitness app is a takes a ton of data on you in order to function, and that data may or may not be stored with the company for a period of time.

But here’s the thing, when the FBI needs location data on someone, they need a WARRANT to get that information from that company, or that company’s cooperation. Back in the early 2000s, there were a number of companies that simply handed over data to letter agencies like the NSA or FBI, and they got roasted for it by their customers. Don’t fool yourself, the only reason why backdoors weren’t coded into your phones by companies like Apple is because they did the math and realized that the cost of cooperating and alienating their customer base was too high, not because these companies have ethics.

So we live in a climate where companies are promising users security and privacy, and when they don’t it’s a scandal that loses them customers and money. They aren’t playing nice with the FBI, so what is the FBI to do? Easy. Circumvent silicon valley.

There is exactly zero reason for the FBI, as an organization, to make entertainment apps. Educational is maybe in line with past practices, but even when they did stuff like that in the 90s, we called it out for the propaganda it was. This app is absolutely a trojan horse. This is so they can get the data you would normally give to a 3rd party company without a warrant.

Please, ffs, learn internet history. Go take a look at the EFF website and archives. Look up the patriot act and the AT&T scandal with the NSA from around 2004. Lots of people on here were barely children pre 9/11, but you can’t possibly understand surveillance and internet policing until you understand what happened to society and privacy from 2001-2010

This is disgusting and should not be tolerated.

If you're in the US military or National Guard, and are given an illegal or unconstitutional order, the GI Rights hotline (1-877-447-4487) is there to help give you the support you need to do the right thing by refusing it. It would be good to think about this now before it becomes a live issue for you and it would be smart of you to memorize that number.

You can reblog this without your thoughts about the US Military, btw, that's allowed.

Months after a viral haka was performed in New Zealand parliament, the controversial bill that sparked it has now been defeated. The Treaty Principles bill sought to redefine the which is New Zealand's founding document. The bill was brought by ACT Party leader David Seymour, who believed the current interpretation of the treaty gave more rights to Māori people than non-Māori New Zealanders. After two years of debate and nationwide protest, the bill was voted down by all but one party.

11 to 112? Amazing. And well done.

Good news from Aotearoa/New Zealand!

I don't want to keep going on on someone else's post but just some notes for calling your reps:

  1. you are almost certainly not the weirdest nor most awkward person to have called them this week. unless you want to be in which case i believe in you.
  2. this is literally their (and their staffers') job; you are not imposing.
  3. even during the day I get voicemail the vast majority of the time. This applies when I call the DC or the local offices. Now granted I live in Lib Land (TM) and specifically am surrounded by federal workers who are highly motivated to scream into the phone constantly (bless) but also, truly, calling after hours is fine. It's volume; unless you have a very unique story to tell (and you might!) if you're going off a script from 5calls or similar a voicemail is just as good as getting a staffer. The key here is call volume.
  4. it takes me like 10-15 minutes max to hit all three of my reps. do it and then give yourself a little treat.
  5. phone >>>>>>>>>>> email, sorry. especially if you're going by scripts. If you must email, customize.
  6. It's recess! are you phone shy but better in person? find a town hall and attend it, which is even more effective than a phone! This is potentially tough for senators if you're in a large state, but with a handful of exceptions in large but mostly rural states (eg: Alaska) your rep should be meeting relatively close to you. If your rep is a dirty coward, Indivisible has been organizing Empty Chair town halls in which they hold space for the rep to actually do their job. In a few cases democratic representatives, especially in more densely populated and small states, have traveled to their colleagues' districts to answer questions, which is great publicity for the democratic party.

Hello everybody with summer fast approaching here is your regular reminder that:

  • Everyone needs to wear sunscreen
  • SPF 50 is pretty much the best protection you can get, an SPF higher than that will have the same effect
  • Melanin does not protect you from skin cancer
  • Tanning is caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation
  • Spending the majority of your life receiving regular large doses of UV radiation without any skin protection is a good way to get skin cancer
  • Don't use tanning beds, and don't go sun tanning
  • Wear your fucking sunscreen

If you're swimming in the ocean, also consider looking for coral-reef-safe sunscreen! Some sunscreens are toxic to coral and in popular swimming destinations it adds up

you can also wear uv protective clothing in the ocean/at the beach! i feel like people forget that it's an option maybe (idk, it was a revelation to me that i could wear swim leggings/bike type shorts instead of boardshorts and bikini bottoms) stuff like rashguards and swim leggings are great and often have some upf in the fibers (you still need to wear sunscreen, but more protection is good!) bonus, they tend to be more flattering/comfy/warmer than traditional swimsuits (i like them as a non binary person since swimwear is often pretty gendered. i am also extremely pale -like no tan, only burn- so win win really.). i like the waterlust brand for their pretty patterns and fairly? inclusive sizing (they also seem to have a commitment to conservation/sustainability as far as i can find but we do live in a capitalistic hellscape so take the marketing with a grain of salt)
