it's nickels (she/her)

A big part of how I personally interpret the Witch is that she honestly strikes me as like... Kind of pitiful?

In comparison to some of the other "hostile" chapter 2 princesses, she doesn't seem particularly strong. Tower's literally a god. Beast's a giant monster woman. Nightmare can kill you with her vibes alone. Razor is chainsaw man. In contrast, Witch just kind of waits for you to make the first move so she can stab you in the back (figuratively speaking. The only time she literally "stabs" you she stabs you in the front).

At the risk of reading too deep into it, I'd argue her character design reflects this lack of power. She's kind of scrawny, with most of her silhouette taken up by her hair - it's kind of like how a cat poofs itself up to appear bigger than it is to scare off threats.

And I think this lack of power is also shown in how her chapter plays out. In any of the outcomes where she actually gets what she wants (hurting the player) she inevitably ends up screwing herself over in the process (she locks you in the basement and loses her chance at escape, she drags you down the stairs and breaks her own back, in the leadup to Wild her home crushes you both, etc). Despite her animalistic traits she's arguably one of the princesses who's just like... A person?

I dunno, I feel like Witch gets treated as a scary or intimidating figure, where I've kinda always seen her as just a (relatively) normal person who feels genuinely hurt and betrayed. This is all just my personal interpretation of her though.

#i do love that she's a 'righteous' heart tho#like yeah. you screwed her over. she's right to be hurt#im not sure where this line appears now but i still love her line in the leadup to witch-#'i thought i found a friend'#that's another one which i think is important for understanding her character that i think gets overlooked a bit#Also this whole thing is kinda also why I really strongly disagree with the whole 'opportunist is mostly fueled by fear' take#like guys. he's so jazzed to stab the princess in the back#most of his spotlight chapters (with the exception of wraith) is when the princess is at her most helpless#(aside from witch we've got HEA where she's tied down at the table and kinda waiting to die)#slay the princess#stp#stp witch#i feel like 'pitiful' is too insulting a choice of words but i couldn't think of anything better#it was originally 'pathetic' which was even worse akjskds#also inspired by a thing which i saw a few times where ppl would kinda treat witch as a separate character from thorn?#and make posts about evil mean witch hurting the feelings of [insert voice here]#and i think witch is one of the best examples of the vessels' characters can suffer if you treat them as separate from their ch 3 versions#(which for the record! Is a thing I do as well. Because it's really fun to have a bunch of the girls running around and#interacting with each other)#but witch & tower specifically like. i think lose a lot of what makes them interesting if you ignore their chapter 3s#Adversary too (I think she's a way more tragic character than ppl give her credit for)#but she suffers less from being demonized by the fandom than the other two#if these tags sound bitter or angry to you it's because I'm hungry rn so sorry about that#also i saw a take which annoyed me so i'm channeling it into my Witch hot take#is this even a hot take. is this a cold take
