The Botanica in SkyTown, Elysia. Because what's cooler than an ancient floating alien steampunk facility? One with trees growing throughout an entire section of it

this is going to sound like such a little sibling ass take but i genuinely believe that being a little bit annoying is actually a greater sign of maturity and self awareness than being universally likeable and on good terms with everyone

if some people find me annoying and can't stand me because of how i think and act then that means i'm a fully realized human being with my own personality and opinions and free will and not just a reflective surface for other people's desires, which is in fact a good thing despite what people who want you to just be a reflection of their own opinions and desires will tell you, and why being considered "cringe" or whatever doesn't bother me at all

also it's really funny when you're confident enough in yourself to know that people not liking you isn't always a sign that you're the problem. like there's something undeniably hilarious about being aware your mere existence has the power to piss someone off and ruin their day and i recommend embracing it.

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.

there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.

anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.

if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

since this post blew up, i've been wanting to do an addition with all of the recommendations from the comments and tags. but there's a lot of them. some people might be crazy enough to sit down and seriously put them all in one post with descriptions. those people are honestly sick in the head.

anyway, here's all of the recommendations from the reblogs. not all of them are text-based, but it's a great mixture of styles. also don't forget the links in the second paragraph of the OP which will take you to FMHY where there are a bunch more games listed.

Games

Tools

  • Text Game Builder - works in your browser, with just a little bit of Python (by @grumpygandalf)
  • Twine - great (free!) tool for making text-based games quickly.
  • Ink - scripting language for interactive fiction (also free)
  • Flashpoint Archive - a community effort to preserve games and animations from the web.
  • PICO-8 - fantasy console for making, sharing and playing tiny games and other computer programs.

Non-Games

  • Library of Babel - interactive illustration which attempts to simulate what it might be like to browse The Library of Babel.
  • Superbad - technically not a game, sprawling website full of secrets.
  • 17776 - serialized speculative fiction multimedia narrative about football in the far-future. beautiful, creative, legendary. created by Jon Bois, a legend and one of my favorite writers of all time.
  • Choice of Games - text-based, choose-your-own-adventure games (interactive fiction). some free-to-play, others can be bought like an ebook.
  • The Deep Sea - scroll to the bottom of the ocean. encounter the humble squid and his friends (by neal)
  • Space Elevator - like The Deep Sea, but up instead of down. you can equip your avatar with a scarf (by neal)
  • Internet Artifacts - an interactive history of the early internet (by neal)
  • If The Moon Were Only One Pixel - scroll through an accurately scaled model of the universe.
  • r/incremental_games - reddit community for incremental games.
  • r/WebGames - reddit community for web games in general.

thank you to everyone who contributed and the creators. please be sure to show them some love where possible.

Please help my family get through another two weeks

As shown above, my pay this coming Thursday is only going to be $87. (I was off work with illness for a long stretch without any sick time.) I am the only working person in my household, trying to take care of my mother and brother. I am deeply embarrassed to ask for assistance one again, but I have no other options.

Anything you can share would go a long way! Right now our biggest priorities in order are rent, food/gas, internet, and restoring at least one of our cell phones (all are disconnected at this time).

(Or you can send me a direct message for E-Transfer if you're also Canadian!)

Sharing this post is also greatly appreciated! 🙏

last week two ambulances, a fire truck, a UN vehicle and around 16 rescue workers were dispatched to save people crushed under the rubble after a bombing in rafah (do you remember rafah? one of biden's red lines.) they disappeared, and due to israeli tanks nobody could enter the area and nobody knew what had happened to them.

a few days ago after the tanks left the vehicles were discovered crushed and buried under the sand, and one rescue worker's body was recovered. israel admitted to targeting them. and then yesterday the rest of the workers' bodies were recovered in a mass grave. one of the corpses had wire around one foot, indicating torture and interrogation, several handcuffed, all of them buried in their clearly marked uniforms and gloves.

cnn reported this story alongside like five other incidents of israel targeting humanitarian workers this past week to little outrage because the workers killed were palestinian and not international, and because israel has been regularly killing humanitarian workers.

but for the PRCS (the palestinian red crescent society), the same organization that hind rajab called desperately from her car around this time last year, one of the few that struggled to save lives throughout the war even when it got their workers killed by israeli forces, these are fathers, sons and loved ones who spent a genocide digging people out of rubble with no equipment and trying to save lives:

all of them were buried in a careless mass grave of rescue workers, found after a week of pleading from their loved ones and radio silence from their murderers and those who enable them.

This is your reminder that without eSims, many people in Gaza cannot reach the rest of the world. To their loved ones overseas to the people who have donated to their fundraisers hoping to keep them alive. The Israeli government has issued repeated communications blackouts, trying to cut us off from Gaza. Even when there are not "official" blackouts, telecommunications are dangerous; Palestinians like Medo have died in makeshift tent cafes trying to access the internet and reach us. In Gaza, infrastructure has been severely damaged, despite the brave and hard work of people in Paltel on the ground. Do not think that because you read a headline about a communications blackout ending, eSims are not needed; Israel has already laid groundwork to cut Gazans off from the world - eSims work independent from the Israeli government and can provide data and phone service, an essential lifeline.

If the process of donating an eSim yourself seems daunting, you can contribute to the Crips for eSims fund directly here:

Hi just a small update that we are running beyond our current budget and are in the negatives by $12K CAD. Help us pay all our volunteers back and keep current eSims active!

Keep donating e-transfer: cripsforesimsforgaza[at]gmail[dot]com (auto-deposit on)

OOOHHH good question. really curious about everyone else's thoughts too =]

These are excellent suit design thoughts! Here's mine.

“Rayban charity glasses event” is a scam don’t click any link in a post that says that.

Old tumblr users remember this scam back when it first went out.

Also no, this isn’t a joke. This phishing scam is 100% running its course again so watch out for your mutuals long abandoned accounts suddenly posting it. Please make everyone aware of it since most users here are newbies who have not seen it before!
