"You can say that [orangutans] are not dependent on social support and approval, and if you admire this in them, that an orang is irredeemably his own person, 'the most poetic of the apes', researcher Lynn Miles told me once in an unguarded moments. What she had in mind was the difference between orangs and chimps in the way they carry on their discourse with the world.

Chimps are much admired for their tool use and for their problem-solving relationship with things as they find them...the orang is, let us say, not so replete with enterprise. Give an orangutan the hexagonal peg and the several shapes of hole, and then hide behind the two-way mirror and watch how he engages with the problem.

And watch and watch and watch--because he does not engage with the problem. He uses the peg to scratch his back, has a look-see at his right wrist, makes a half-hearted and soon abandoned attempt to use his fur as a macramé project, stares dreamily out the window if there is one and at nothing in particular if not, and the sun begins to set. (The sun will also set if you are observing a chimp, but the chimp is more amusing, so you are less likely to mark the moment in your notes. An orang observer has plenty of time to be a student of the vanities of sunset.)

You watch, and the orang dreams...when casually and as if thinking of something else, the orang slips the hexagonal peg into the hexagonal hole. And continues staring off dreamily."

“these characters should be mentally healthy before they get together 😌” ummm no I actually think we should smash their mental illnesses together like clumps of play-doh and see what colors it makes

People who hate Frodo Baggins are my enemy. "He didn't do anything and was useless"--yeah, okay, so what you're not understanding is that he was the sacrificial lamb. He endured physical, mental, and emotional torment that got worse and worse as his will broke. Everyone knew this. EVERYONE KNEW THIS. That's why everyone was devastated about it. Because Frodo was the most innocent among them, that was the entire point. He represented ordinary peaceful people being destroyed by the horrors of war. And as a hobbit he also represented some of the last vestiges of magic in what was basically a post magic apocalypse.

Frodo was basically an innocent puppy thrown into the Torment Nexus so that EVERYONE ELSE could maybe have a hope of surviving. And he did that willingly. HE DID IT OF HIS OWN FREE WILL, KNOWING IT WOULD RUIN HIM.

Frodo haters won't see the light of heaven

Some Fairydoll sketches!

Happy to announce, i am reopening my patreon! It is free to join , and already has some sneak peaks of Fairydoll. I want to use it as a main area for posting about this comic, and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes into making it.

Fairydoll will be free to read when it is ready. And will have its first chapter up in June! 🥳🥳🥳

What will it be about? Earwig, a guard of the royal fairy court aspires to be a knight! But when she interrupts a fey performing dark magic, she becomes wrapped up in all sorts of schemes and fairy shenanigans. Juniper just wants to explore the reaches of fairy magic in peace...it's not her fault it's forbidden. Fantasy! Action! Romance! Morally grey science experiments! Its got it all. Fairydoll will be an 18+ webcomic with adult themes. tldr: Toxic Sapphic fairies

it really is crazy how quickly people were willing to just let chatgpt do everything for them. i have never even tried it. brother i don't even know if it's just a website you go to or what. i do not know where chatgpt actually lives, because i can decide my own grocery list.

//I promise I'll shut up in a second but I cannot stand when people call Colin a bad Darcy because "all he does is stare". Maybe to your silly little unperceptive eyes, but to mine...

Colin is the king of micro expressing. You can see the exact moment he shifts from smug indifference to recognizing Elizabeth from across the room. It's in the slow widening of his eyes and the subtle softening of his mouth. You can practically hear this man's heartbeat quicken just from looking at him.

12 frames of animation I made using knitting! I spent a long time on this and I’m so pleased with the results, really looking forward to trying more ‘yarnimation’ in the future. Process video out now too! 🐑
