Stiles constantly dismisses Lydia’s decaying sanity in Season 2, saying “she’s fine” at every turn.
He’s talking to Morell, the guidance counsellor, and lists how everything is going wrong with everyone but “Lydia is the most normal”.
Lydia was hysterically wailing on the ice rink. She’s immune to the werewolf bite and kanima venom. She’s writing backwards on the chalkboard. She’s crying in her car. SHE DISAPPEARED FROM HER PARTY WHEN EVERYONE WAS BEING POISONED BY WOLFSBANE. AT HER HOUSE. AT HER PARTY.
Like, I’m sorry… I just refuse to believe Stiles cares about Lydia, let alone loves her. It’s ridiculous. No one cares about Lydia in the earlier seasons. Not one person, aside from Jackson and Scott — which is insane!
Honestly I think he liked the idea of her more than he actually did her. Not to say they don't develop a friendship later on, but it definitely wasn't love. It was a safe unobtainable crush that he knew would never happen and therefore he would not have to dive into emotional wells that that boy was quite frankly scared to death of.
