before I played Disco Elysium, I thought Harry du Bois was a co-worker in the precinct you work at and, reading about him being such a fucked up guy, I was literally planning on avoiding him as much as possible in my playthrough... colour me surprised when I found the badge and found out the main character's name

why is explaining a villains sad backstory always taken as an effort toward excusing their actions. why does the conversation need to involve the question of excusing anything rather than just making their present behavior way more interesting by complicating their feelings or their motivations. why is acknowledging complicated feelings or motivations taken as apologism in and of itself. why is everyone so incredibly boring

examples of each:

  1. barefoot stepping on a nail
  2. gruesome werewolf transformation
  3. complete community ostracism or societal breakdown, the social contract to help each other doesn't apply to you or is fundamentally broken
  4. mother tells child they must do something horrible to prevent damnation, cults
  5. an older sibling forgets their younger sibling sleeping in the hot car
  6. was that your mom's voice in the kitchen or was that something that sounds like her?
  7. someone tortures a stranger simply because it's interesting and they're bored. cruelty is the point.
  8. people drinking coffee and joking around while they put in motion profound atrocities
  9. natural disasters, freezing/drowning/dehydrating/starving to death, being stranded or lost
  10. looking through photos from your solo camping trip, you find several of yourself asleep in the tent.

If it depends on the piece/style, go with your average!

I just wanna see if using 16 or more layers is normal...

#well it depends !#you have the sketch layer and lineart layer#then the “color decider layers” are usually in a folder and theyre tons of color maps and filters#but i consider this all part of the sketch for a complicated piece#usually for a small average piece its sketch 1 lineart 1 flats 1 color map or color filter layer 1 shadows 1 rendering#sometimes one layer more for the lineart bc color shifting shit. or for the shadow#so ig 6 or 7 !
