The Lost Brother

Summary: Order 66 didn't happen. The Jedi were able to defeat Palpatine but Anakin's involvement with the Sith Lord has him banished and under guard in the Jedi Temple. On the eve of his appearance in front of the Council to decide his fate, Obi Wan pays him a visit.

Obi Wan hesitated as his footsteps echoed down the ornate lower corridor of the Jedi temple. The lights were dimmer down here and Obi Wan’s shadow trailed behind him like a beast stalking him.

The temple didn’t really hold a jail, per se, just a small living quarters once used but a Jedi centuries ago whose species was unable to go above ground during the day.

Obi Wan could sense the distress coming from the end of the hall and sighed. He longed to be able to help his former padawan in a more constructive way, but Anakin had gotten in so deep, Obi Wan knew he alone wasn’t enough to pull him out.

The strength of Anakin’s anguish hit the jedi master like a wall. It was thick, as though he were wading through mud. He collected himself as he reached the door to the room.

Two masked Jedi temple guards stood at the entrance, their sabers humming and crossed over the door.

“I wish to see him.” Obi Wan said calmly. The short guard’s head ticked towards the taller one who gave an almost imperceptible nod. Their yellow sabers disengaged with a hiss and Obi Wan pressed the door release and the stepped over the threshold and down into the room.

The quarters consisted of three separate rooms, a bedroom, fresher and small kitchenette. Obi Wan knew it wasn’t what Anakin was used to, especially with the knowledge he had been spending so much time at Padme Amidala’s luxury apartment.

It took a moment for Obi Wan’s eyes to adjust to the dark, but he could feel him, radiating out of the corner of the room.

“I’m finally graced with your presence, Master?” Anakin said in a petulant voice, “and here I thought you had forgotten all about me.”

Obi Wan signed, “if only I could, Anakin.”

The Jedi rounded on him, his hair longer than when he had last seen him, a beard growing unkempt on his chin.

Anakin chuckled as he scratched at his face, “Is it like looking in a mirror, Obi Wan?” he sneered, “perhaps we look more like brothers now.”

Obi Wan’s heart ached.

He had tried his best to compartmentalize the situation. Justify Anakin’s thinking in some way, knowing stronger men than he had fallen to the dark side or been tempted. The disappointment gnawed at him. Not disappointment in Anakin, but in himself.

He had given his word that he would train this boy to become a Jedi. It had been his Master’s dying wish. And this is where is had ended up. A murderous young man, ready to slaughter millions and set the galaxy ablaze for a single soul.

Obi Wan wasn’t callus, he knew love was a powerful emotion, had felt it firsthand, but his failure in realizing how deep in love Anakin was, and how untethered he had become to the Jedi teachings had almost ended in a calamity of proportions he couldn’t comprehend.

He wanted to apologize, to be punished for his failings as a master, as a man. But he knew that wouldn’t change anything. Anakin’s fate was now in the hands of the council. He was just here to relay to date of his appearance before them.

“Are you keeping well, given the circumstances?” Obi Wan asked conversationally, not wanting his appearance to seem as transactional as he was instructed it to be.

Anakin laughed again and Obi Wan could sense the rage behind it.

“You want to ask about the weather next?” the young jedi asked, gesturing at the windowless space.

“Anakin.”

“Why are you here, Obi Wan?” Anakin spat, his temper flaring. Obi Wan could sense how close it was to the surface, raw and unchecked.

The Jedi Master’s shoulders slumped. He supposed he was being optimistic in requesting this task. Hoping that in seeing his former padawan, former brother, he would be able to fix the situation somehow.

Obi Wan sighed, “The Council would like to inform you that you your hearing will take place tomorrow.”

“Noted,” Anakin replied, collapsing onto the bed with his back turned towards his former master. “Is that it?”

Obi Wan stepped forward, pulling out a folded piece of flimsi from the arm of his robes and setting it down gently next to Anakin.

“What’s this?” he barked.

“Padme says Hello.” He said in a soft voice as he crossed to the door.

Anakin jumped up, ripping the flimsi apart and reading it so fast his eyes looked like they were vibrating. Obi Wan was caught in a wave of joy that reverberated around the room. Anakin turned the page over and frowned.

“Is she okay?” Anakin asked, getting up and stepping closer to his former master.

Obi Wan nodded. “She is doing well. And has medical staff attending to her around the clock, just in case.”

Anakin looked back down at the letter before meeting Obi Wan’s eyes again. “Thank you, Master.” He said quietly, sounding like himself for the first time since Obi Wan had entered the room.

Obi Wan smiled, “You are most welcome, Anakin.” He placed his arm on his shoulder and for a moment felt how he always had. An impossibly strong bond with the boy he had raised.

“Will you be there? Tomorrow I mean. Will you come?” Anakin asked, and for a moment Obi Wan thought the young man was regressing. He could almost see his hair shorten, the beard disappear,  his height diminish until a small, sandy haired child stood before him.

“I shall be there as a member of the Council. Yes.” Obi Wan said.

“But not to defend me?”

Obi Wan looked away and stroked his beard. “Anakin…I…”

“The galaxy would have fallen into darkness if it wasn’t for me. I did the right thing. I stopped it.”

“Eventually, yes.” Obi Wan said hesitantly. “But you have been treading a dark path for a while, Anakin. Since Tatooine and the sand people…”

A flash of range exploded out of Anakin, his eyes narrowed in a scowl.

Obi Wan stepped back, feeling the weight of the other man’s emotions sink into him, permeating his skin. “Palpatine used that darkness, but he did not create it. I am sorry I wasn’t more helpful in your time of need…”

“I don’t need your pity, Master or your false platitudes.”

“Then what is it you do need from me?” Obi Wan asked.

“Nothing. Just go.”

Obi Wan sighed and turned away, before turning back. “You were a good Jedi, Anakin. And a good man. Remind them of it. Perhaps they will give you the opportunity to become it again.”

“And what if I can’t?” Anakin whispered.

“Well then, I’m sure Padme and your twins could give you a life many Jedi could only dream of.”

Obi Wan pressed the door release, giving his brother one final look before leaving him to his own thoughts once more.

The Bad Batch (according to my father who can never seem to remember their names)

Handsome leader (Hunter)

Data analyst (Tech)

Mean and grumpy (Crosshair)

Blender arm (Echo)

And of course everyone’s favorite big guy:

Crunch (Wrecker)

Why the fuck is this so funny? Am I just desperate for laughs or something?

Honestly I don’t know why it’s so funny either, I think it’s the way he just associated the sound of a crunch with wreckers love for destruction? It’s just so out of left field but also somehow not totally wrong?

Crunch is just such a good clone name

I also love that Echo is ‘blender arm’ thats probably what my Mum would call him too 😂😂😂

Cody’s breath caught with the sense of abject panic when he realized he couldn’t see Obi Wan. The battlefield was a labyrinth of clones, battle droids, assassin droids, B2s, tanks, shells, explosions, and so much other stimuli that Cody was thankful for his helmet to cut down some of the noise. But one thing he couldn’t hear, couldn’t see, was the hum and glow of a blue lightsaber.

Cody sprayed fire at the approaching wave of droids, indiscriminately firing while simultaneously trying to pinpoint his Jedi’s location. He fought the urge to call him on the comm, not wanting to interrupt if he were in the middle of a fight.

“Obi Wan? Obi Wan, Come in.” Anakin Skywalkers breathless voice sounded over the open comm. “Has anyone seen Obi Wan? Cody?”

Cody looked further afield, noticing a green lightsaber swiping wildly through a tank, before slashing an entire battalion of battle droids. “Negative, Sir. I do not have a visual on the General.” Cody said quickly while shooting a B2 in the face and pushing it over onto its brethren.

“We need to find him. You take the east side of the battlefield. I’ll take the west. We’ll meet in the middle.” Anakin instructed.

“On it, Sir,” Cody said with relief. He wouldn’t have left his men unless ordered to.

“Waxer, Boil. You’re on point. I’m going after the General,” Cody said before sprinting to the left, spraying cover fire as he did so.

“Obi Wan, do you copy?” Cody called into their private comm channel, normally used for outrageous flirting when others weren’t around. “Obi Wan?”

Cody heard the comm click on and heard a rustling and grunting sound and the familiar and oddly comforting sound of a lightsaber striking another.

“I’m a little preoccupied at the moment, my dear. Can I call you back?”

“Where are you?” he asked, eyes searching the battlefield again and still not seeing anything.

More sizzling noises of sabers clashing and a thud as Obi Wan either fell or was thrown against something hard. A groan escaped him into the comm and Cody’s levelheadedness disappeared.

“WHERE?” Cody yelled again.

“South…East…Cave…” Obi Wan grunted.

Cody turned and sprinted back the way he came, spraying more fire as he searched. Then he spotted it, the whirl of blue and red sabers flashing in the dark. He threw himself forward, taking out droid after droid with precision shots as he closed on the mouth of the cave.

“Is that all you’ve got, Kenobi? Perhaps I should challenge your former padawan next, maybe he’d be more of a challenge.”

“I’m sorry, my dear, you’re not his type,” Obi Wan retorted in his typical sassy style. Cody chewed on his smile, and he sent a volley of cover fire into the cave in Ventress’s direction, causing her to retreat enough that he could skid to Obi Wan’s side.

The Jedi was panting heavily but more than keeping his own. The edge of his robes were singed, his hair, usually neatly pushed back from his face had fallen into his eyes, showing the rugged sexiness Cody usually only got to see behind closed doors.

His heart hammered in his chest as he settled in beside his Jedi. Refocusing on the target and adjusting his weapon as the Sith assassin catapulted off the wall and threw herself at the two of them.

“A new plaything,” Ventress hissed as her eyes settled on Cody.

“I’m afraid not, my dear.” Obi Wan said, raising his hand and physically pushing Ventress back while twirling his saber above his head, his left hand pointed out towards her.

Ventress seemed to take it as a challenge, throwing herself this way and that to get closer to Cody, knowing it would push Obi Wan to the brink.

“Come on Obi Wan, just give me this one and you can keep Skywalker.”

Obi Wan’s saber collided with hers once more as he pushed her back, tossing himself over the blade to draw her away from Cody.

“Trust me, I’m not your type either,” Cody spat, unable to quiet himself any longer. He noticed Obi Wan smirk as Ventress turned in surprise but wasn’t quick enough to stop her as he blocked her parry while she reached out towards Cody.

The Commander felt his feet lift off the ground and start sliding towards her outstretched hand before her long, grey fingers wrapped themselves around his throat.

There was another sensation on him now and out of the corner of his eye he could see Obi Wan’s hand also raised, pushing Ventress’s fingers back from crushing his windpipe, their sabers still clashing noisily.

Obi Wan’s face fell into a scowl as Cody struggled for breath. He dropped his blaster, the sound of it hitting the floor echoing throughout the cave. Black spots started to form around the edges of his vision. He grasped at his leg for his vibroknife, swinging it up wildly and connecting with something soft.

She released him at once with a hiss, blood pouring from the arm holding her saber. As he dropped to the floor Obi Wan took advantage of the distraction, picking her up with the force and throwing her into the cave wall. She crumbled to the floor, rocks and debris falling on top of her.

“Dank Ferrick, I love you,” Obi Wan said, “Marry me.” He added, sprinting to Cody’s side.

“This really isn’t the time, Obi Wan.” Cody rasped, his hand massaging his throat, the grin underneath his helmet still evident in his voice.

“Quickly,” Obi Wan said, throwing Cody’s arm over his shoulder and grabbing his blaster before dragging him out of the cave as the surrounding rock started to fall.

They collapsed at the entrance to the cave as dust and debris surrounded them. Obi Wan wrenched his helmet off and Cody was finally able to take a full breath, only for it to include enough dust to induce a coughing fit.

He lay over Obi Wan’s legs, the Jedi brushing the dust out of his hair. Cody reached up touching the piece of the Jedi’s hair that had fallen in his face.

“Do you have any idea how sexy this piece of hair is?” he asked with a chuckle.

“No,” Obi Wan said with a grin, “But I would be delighted to find out.”

The Jedi brushed dust off Cody’s face and leaned in before quickly sitting upright.

“There you two are. If you’re done relaxing, we have a battle to win,” Anakin Skywalker said as he charged back into the fray.

“Perhaps we can discuss this in my quarters later?” Obi Wan asked slyly.

“I am at your disposal, General.”

The Jedi offered him his hand and Cody let him pull him to his feet. Obi Wan ignited his lightsaber and Cody adjusted his blaster in his hands as they ran to meet the wave of separatist forces, together.

Even leaders need love 🥰💚💕

Nez had been the Batch’s handler for some time, and her and Hunter always had a special bond, trusting and relying on one another. It was only natural after all was said and done that they’d settle down on Pabu together 💚💕
