What a shocker, the Webcomic that has fundamentally never given a shit about Cass and only included her due to a sense of obligation has once again mischaracterised her in an egregious and stupid way.
My entire attitude towards Viziepop is that I don't care and I never will but as I survivor of a whole lot of toxic fandoms with a weirdly persistent overlap I can already tell the hatedom that's built up around the whole thing is completely insane and deeply sad so I will happily join the fans in gathering around to point and laugh at them. You have my bow.
This is the reason I never comment on Sonic the Hedgehog btw. I fucking despise Sonic the Hedgehog. Deeply, viscerally. It's just I have the self awareness to know the only thing more cringe than Sonic is the entire subculture of grown ass men who dedicate their life to hating it and try to shame a fanbase consisting mostly of 12 year old Deviantart furries for the stupid thing they like. Especially since most of them are just former Sonic the Hedgehog fans overcompensating for having gone through a phase of thinking Shadow the Hedgehog was just the raddest thing EVAR when they were younger that they are now embarrassed by.
Remember seeing someone complain about Hazbin Hotel at Hot Topic of all places and I just had to sit back and ask myself if anyone has ever actually shopped at Hot Topic before, lmfao.
Bro this is the INVADER ZIM company, I don't think they have the standards you want them to have. 😭
The problem with this is that the comparison is just... bad? Like okay yes fully there are people who go all "popular thing bad" or "thing not for me therefore bad", those people exist in every fandom ad frankly their opinions shouldn't matter.
But there are legitimate criticisms of Vivziepop and stuff she's done that should still be made. Sonic is just niche in a way that people make fun of, and has a very neurodivergent fandom who also gets made fun of. Meanwhile, Vivziepop has been called out for misogyny and Transphobia multiple times, as well as fostering a very weird, quasi parasocial relationship with her fans.
Basically - the presence of bad faith actors cannot and should not mean all criticism of something should be taken as though it's that. The fact Cringe Culture exists does not mean shit that gets labelled as Cringe cannot be bad for legitimate reasons too.
How come every single time I make a post calling out toxic obsessive hatedoms I always get at least one extremely defensive response to the effect of "oh so you just think ALL criticism is invalid and we shouldn't be allowed to criticize?"
Because that's kind of how you presented your argument with the examples you used..?

I think what it is about Fromsoft (specifically souls and soulslike) games that makes me so mad is the fact that the problems are the same every time, and so are the justifications. Every Souls Game has the same gameplay. The broad strokes are extremely rudimentary and will be explained to you, but there are then HUNDREDS of infinitely more complex minutiae regarding stats and upgrade mechanics that will make or break the entire game. How to make a good build is never explained BY the game and if you fuck it up you can make your entire character unviable very fast. There is also literally never a sense of progress or your character getting stronger. The numbers go up but the enemies numbers go up faster, so you're always weaker. The frustrating thing is that Armoured Core 6, another Fromsoft game, fixed this problem - but none of the Soulsbornering games have, and the fan response is always "It's meant to be hard." The UI is always bad. There are none of the basic quality of life improvements that have been industry standard literally for decades (EG: you still have to quit via the start screen and wait for it to go the menu before you can close the game) and while none of these things RUIN the game, they make the experience needlessly inconvenient. They aren't there for a reason, it's just laziness. The response to this is always "Well none of that matters" or "It's supposed to be hard". You get one basic plot and it's "You are some rando in a world that is either dead or dying, there's lots of fire imagery and you can't die, and you're kind of vaguely working toward a completely arbitrary goal that won't change or fix anything in the world because the world is beyond saving but hey it's something to do." This gives you fuck all motivation but don't worry - there's always an extremely deep and convoluted plot that will not be explained to you by the game itself in any way that is even remotely coherent, delivered in disjointed pieces via amateurishly voiced characters who deliver their lines in monotonous monologues that use a lot of words to say basically nothing. You WILL need to look up the plot if you want to understand it in any meaningful way. The short response to this is always "It's supposed to be like that", the long response is always "Miyazaki did that on purpose because he grew up reading LOTR in English so he wanted his games to convey a similar feeling of not knowing everything going on and having to draw your own conclusions." This is a conceptually interesting manner of storytelling. But it doesn't work with the way HE writes. Miyazaki read LOTR but wrote his stuff like the Silmarillion. You cannot make your stories so massively dense and reliant on understanding the intricacies of the deep lore for anything to make sense and then just not fucking communicate it. THAT'S. JUST. BAD. STORYTELLING. Like what I would ultimately say about FromSoft's style of making games is that it is painfully fucking lazy. It's the same flaws and the same mistakes every time. Why do we criticise Ubisoft or Bethesda for doing the same shit but not Fromsoft? Because "It's supposed to be hard" is a universal defence that every Fromsoft fan will use some variation of to justify literally every criticism of how those games are made. Because being good at an amazing, 10/10 game that's also really hard is more impressive than being good at a game that has nothing going for it beyond difficulty. Which is also why every Fromsoft Fan is vehemently against the idea of giving these games an easy mode - because consciously or unconsciously, they know that if even the OPTION to remove the difficulty was present, all the substantive flaws and failings that are the SAME FLAWS AND FAILINGS IN EVERY GAME would be damningly apparent to absolutely everyone. The lack of accessibility is part of the defence. "It's supposed to be hard", and the Emperor's clothes look fucking amazing.
batgirl having such a good an multidimensional view of Cass and Shiva’s relationship and Cass’ view of killing by extension vs WFA having Shiva be more cartoonish evil than her cartoon counterparts and Cass thinking about killing someone
Wayne Family Adventures
"Cass is thinking about killing the Jo-"
She wouldn't. Not even consider it for a half second. That's her entire fucking character trauma. She does NOT want to kill. Not even him
Canonically the Joker is the one person Cass would consider killing in extreme circumstances, tbf. When a device made her hallucinate a situation where she’d be willing to kill it was if the Joker killed Bruce
Yes but the set up is completely different? In that comic it was clearly a pure emotional thing - she thought Joker killed Bruce and in the immediate aftermath of that was so angry that she was willing to kill the Joker. You could even argue that that comic does not prove she'd even be willing to kill Joker in that situation - because iirc the device drew on her fears. So arguably - it was combining her two biggest fears - failing to protect someone she cared about, and proving that she was still a killer. This is Cass mulling over the possibility that killing the Joker is a good idea as, essentially, an ethical conundrum. She's not in any immediate danger and It's not spur of the moment, it's not her acting impulsively or emotionally, it's her grappling with the concept that sometimes killing might be justified - which is something she would simply never fucking do. Frankly I'm kind of sick of WFA because... like yeah, they let Cass be Batgirl NOW, but she's been Orphan this entire time with NO ONE in the Batgirl role for literally no reason. And even now that she IS Batgirl, Steph is too. And the first big story thing they give her since making her Batgirl is THIS. Rehashing the tired as fuck "Is it ethical to kill the Joker" question using the character who is the absolutely least likely to answer yes, or seriously struggle with the concept. This is a story that would work better with basically any other character and it feels like they gave it to Cass for the sake of being able to say they gave her something to do for once.

Concept: Garak meeting Data. At first, Garak is curious about this android Julian speaks so highly of, hoping for some delightful literature debate. The moment Data walks into view, however, and Data says, "I am eager to spend my shore leave here on the station" Garak gets distracted by the fact that Data is spending his shore leave in his uniform. Naturally, Garak invites Data to his shop to find him something a little more casual and fashionable to wear, but that proves an impossible challenge: Data simply does not style. Garak can find clothes that suit him, that accentuate his skin tone (and then de-accentuate it when Data requests so in an effort to look more human), and he can find styles that suit Data's body type... but none of that changes the fact that Data wears clothes the same way the average person chooses a padd to work with: with no regard for assistance whatsoever. Being an android, he has no concept of personal style, and is equally comfortable working clothed or nude, and only wears clothes because of social expectation. Therefore, no matter what Garak styles him in, it ends up looking bland and drab, because Data never really feels the clothes he wears or takes pride in the cut or the make or how it looks on him or any of it.
Finally, Data finds something that he wants to wear, and worse, it's not even from his shop (but then, of course not: Garak would die before allowing a fashion monstrosity like that to come into existence with his own hands). The item of clothing in question: The most hideous cat-print breezy beach shirt Garak has even seen, in a horrid kitchen wall yellow that puts all of Julian's fashion crimes to shame. And then, to top it all off, the yellow brings out Data's eyes nicely, and he enjoys wearing it because the cat on the print reminds him of Spot... which means he looks good in it.
Garak visits sickbay with several fractured knuckles on his right hand, and Julian jokingly asks: "Did you punch a bulkhead?" Garak laughs, but Miles mentions having to repair an odd fist-shaped dent in the bulkhead in Garak's shop, and makes the same joking remark: "I didn't take Garak for a punching a bulkhead kind of guy, but I doubt know how else it could have happened."
Suddenly, his joke doesn't seem like much of a joke.
this is killing me he doesn't even gaf about the yuri behind him

I'm not even kidding: the actual most interesting thing DC could do with the Joker at this point is perma-kill him.
Because the well has run dry. There is nowhere to go with him. They've escalated and escalated to a point where "high stakes" became "really dumb" a long time ago. We reached the apotheosis of stupid shit overhyping Joker with "The Batman Who Laughs". They could try to pull back and reset him to the last time he was actually interesting, but at this point they sort of can't without a full canon reset.
So genuinely, the most interesting thing they could do is kill him and explore the emotional ramifications for the characters this would affect. Namely Batman, Jason, Barbara and Harley.
I straight up reject the idea that David was the one that named Cass and I'm going to stick with the original idea that Babs did.
- Because I like Barbara naming Cass after herself.
- It makes no sense for David to name Cass, since she was just a living weapon in his eyes. What's the point of giving her a name?
I agree but I don’t think she was “just” a living weapon to David. She was basically his magnum opus. I could see him naming her, if only to have a title for his great work, but it wouldn’t be sentimental or humanizing. The One Who Is All could feasibly be how he thought of her.
Mebbe he’d call her “C” (have fun with the implications of what happened to A and B) and Babs extrapolated from there?
She had half siblings who David considered Failures and threw away, it was an entire arc in the comic. Also again, David did not, in canon, name her. Cass had no name until Barbara gave her one. That's not an idea it's a fact.
