Life in Doll City

@lifeindollcity

A place to show off my dolls, doll related projects, and the doll space.

Starting today I'm not going to buy myself anymore toys. I'm going to impose this on myself until March 2025 because my birthday is in February.

I'm sharing my amazon wishlist so my friends here can see it. If you want to get me something off this list, feel free, but don't feel obligated.

Monster High Clair Custom WIP

There was a new toy store that opened near my house, and they had a bin of Monster High dolls for like $10-$15. They were mostly dolls that I already owned but I picked up Posea Reef and this Raven' Wednesday doll with a bob cut. When this Wednesday doll came out knew that she would be perfect for a Clair custom, but I didn't know how I would be able to get her for an affordable price.

But here we are! All I've really done so far is paint her eyeliner and redress her but I enjoy her enough to make a short little post.

Very excited about her! She'll be a great little first re-rerooting project when I do her blue streak and learning to make her sweater or shorts will be fun. I might try to make her eyeshadow higher because it doesn't super match her og model. I'm just scared to do it I think, just because I'm pretty happy with it rn and don't want to mess it up.

I'm really looking forward to making this custom without having to completely repaint the doll!

I have seen barely anyone talking about these Disney Princess BJDs, which is odd to me since I figured they'd be hugely popular. I got mine on AliExpress.

I'm a fairly new doll collector but I also collect Princess Aurora figures and merchandise, so I might be biased, but I love her!

She's my first BJD, and it was a learning curve for sure. Her skirt admittedly isn't great quality (it almost feels like surgical glove material) and her stand was terrible (it held her leg at the joint, which was a nightmare) but I swapped it out for one of my anime figure stands and it works much better. She also has a heavier head so she can tip pretty easily, but where I'm gonna display her it's not going to be an issue since she'll be propped up. Her crown doesn't sit on her head great, but some putty will hold it on nice enough. She cost me about £18.

Overall though I love her, and I'm very happy! She's so stunning and I'm super excited to add her to my Aurora display ❤️

Guess who watched the pilot animatic for "Pretty Pretty Please I Don't Want to Be a Magical Girl" and has A) very basic 3d modeling skills B) a 3d printer, and C) too much time on his hands?

Whoops I should maybe actually tag @kianamaiart on this post lmao

Making progress~

Finished! (Sort of!) Two of each Hoshi are covered in glossy varnish, and two in matte. Both of the star wands are glossy. I think they look pretty good for a first pass!

For those who haven't heard from my other socials, the first wave of Atop the Fourth Wall action figures is now up for preorders! $10 per figure, $25 for all three. Only have photos of the Linkara figure right now - boxy, but highly articulated so you can put them into whatever hilarious poses you see fit! Still, here's a photo of the 90s Dude and Mechakara heads that'll be printed out. Will post photos of theo ther figures as they become available.

They're made under license of the Easy 13 system from Lucky 13 Toys, whom you can check out here: https://www.lucky13toys.com/ The figures will ship April 4th and if I'll work on a wave 2 will depend on how well sales do on this, so if you're interested, check 'em out HERE: https://atop-the-fourth-wall.storenvy.com/products/36911019-action-figures

Thrifted good old Luna for 8€. Her head is a little loose but overall she is fine.

I had difficulties getting her a nice outfit. I wanted something to match her eyes but didn’t found the right style. After trying a million different styles, I just grabbed some pieces (skirt and shoulder-thing) and it looked right. I separated the top of her (terrible) silver onesie and gave her Frankie’s boots (painted with chrome pen).

She is ready to rock the stage!

I love Wicked, I love Elphaba but I love fashion dolls first and foremost so I love redressing my dolls.

I'm really happy to add a new Elphaba to the mix and now she has her own custom outfit, especially since the fabric is made specifically for Wicked.

I had two small transparent plastic snaps left, just what I needed for the closure and almost lost one side of the last one when I dropped it but fortunately I found it.

The trims are rather large but I like this effect with the big heads and eyes of Rainbow High dolls. I didn't plan the embroidery: I was improvising the skirt and didn't feel like picking apart the second pintuck when I made it too high up, so I added the embroidery to fill the space and I think it looks much better like this than with just three pintucks.

I think it is slightly too plain still but I will sleep on it and think about it later. I think the design needs bows but most of the materials used would be too bulky for that. I wish I had miniature buttons.
