i love your work! how did you learn to draw? i’m trying to develop my own style

Thank you so much! πŸ’— I can’t pinpoint a specific moment when I learned to draw since I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. As a kid I was really into anime and manga, so I’d copy the cool characters I saw on screen, doodling on whatever paper I could find. But I never took it seriously, and by seriously I mean in the sense of actively looking for resources to improve. It’s only in the few years that I’ve started studying things like anatomy more intentionally.

For the longest time I drew without references, and let me tell you, if you want to draw something, search up how it looks! 😭 But at the same time, learning to draw from memory is just as important. Finding a balance between using references and drawing from imagination is probably good.

I don’t think I have a set art style, or at least I’m not trying to fit myself into one. I’m still figuring out what I like, and I’m okay with that! Art is a journey, and you’re always learning. My biggest advice is to experiment as much as possible and not chase β€œperfection” because there’s no such thing in art. If you’re developing your style, try looking at other people’s art and pinpoint what specifically draws you in. What parts to you like? Then try and incorporate those elements into your own art.

Just keep going, keep learning and keep drawing, and remember: you can draw like that too! Your art is inherently valuable, and when you’re struggling, just know that every artist has been there before.

Best of luck anon! πŸ’«

A song that makes me think of Jason is Bruises by Fox Stevenson

Oh I’ve never heard of the song before, but I listened to it and it’s nice! I can understand how you’d be reminded of Jason. Thanks for the song rec anon!
