ankh-morpork is so great. awful fucking city. all the worst parts of every city you've ever visited (but mostly london). horrendous. i love it. 100/10 would never visit

originally on this post i was going to say "all the worst parts of london mixed with all the worst parts of new york" but then i was like. no terry pratchett was english and also i don't want to get (rightly) criticized for being american. but then i saw all these people in the tags being like "its fantasy boston" "its as much paris as london" "it reminds me of my home city rome" and i'm like you know what? you're right. ankh-morpork is Your city. it's whatever city you love and hate the most. that's what makes it so awfully fantastic

And the latter books set in it are centered around Vetinari (and others) trying to fix its infrastructure to make it a better place for everyone who lives there. Terry Pratchett wanted to see his city improved as much as possible before he had to leave our world.
