"I'm not reading all that" is one of the most egg-on-your-face responses you can give to something you disagree with. You are under no obligation to read something you don't feel like reading, but you don't exactly get to act like refusing to read bolsters your position.

"I didn't pay attention to what you said to me, but I'm pretty sure I'm right anyway" is not the dunk you think it is.

Anyway I like it when people say this to me, because it puts my arguments in front of their followers. If some of their followers do read all that, and are even a little bit swayed, hey, the post has done its job. And because in lieu of any counterargument they've opted for this weak "dunk", they've effectively given me the last word, and put it on their blog! It's like a win-win for me. Because they decided they weren't reading all that.

the point of this type of reply is to demoralize people who put a lot of work into writing up an argument, and to emphasize that the quality of your argument doesn't actually matter because the function of the interaction is simply for them to jeer at you as a bonding activity in within their group. I feel like this mindset is important to understanding human interactions in general -- it's a realist posture, an assertion of charismatic over legal authority. generally those people are assuming that their audience will view them as the "winner", and generally they're correct!

but you're also kind of right, because most of the time we're talking about someone whose charismatic authority only extends to their little clique. so you can reblog it onto your blog, where you're beloved of your own little clique, and suddenly they're the loser and you're the winner! and this is the great innovation of social media: the tantalizing prospect, never quite realized but always within grasp, of a war that everybody wins.

Dr. Allen Frances says in speculating about Trump’s mental health, we are doing a disservice to those who do suffer from mental illness. In a series of tweets, he explained why he doesn’t think Trump is a narcissist — and how harmful it can be for us to keep assuming that he is.

Wow, a post where a qualified professional explains why it’s bad to misuse clinical terminology and equate mental illness with authoritarianism. I’m sure the comments don’t contain any people defending to the death their right to misuse clinical terminology and equate mental illness with authoritarianism

I hate when I say things like "oh I want an ipod classic but with bluetooth so I can use wireless headphones" and some peanut comes in and replies with "so a smartphone with spotify?" No. I want a 160GB+ rectangular monstrosity where I can download every version of every song I want to it and it does nothing except play music and I don't need a data connection and don't have to pay a subscription to not have ads and don't have popups suggesting terrible AI playlists all over the menus.

Gimme the clicky wheel and song titles like "My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade- Blood (Bonus Track)- secret track- album rip- high quality"

Tangara is an open source iPod clone, which includes bluetooth:

'Microraptor and the Nest Guard' - an early-Cretaceous short by me.

I actually made a video documenting my animation process from start to finish for this specific short, so if you're interested, check it out on my YouTube channel!

i like working at plant store. sometimes you ring up someone and there's a slug on their plant and so you're like "Oh haha you've got a friend there let me get that for you" and you put the slug on your hand for safekeeping but then its really busy and you dont have time to take the slug outside before the next customer in line so you just have a slug chilling on your hand for 15 minutes. really makes you feel at peace with nature. also it means sometimes i get to say my favorite line which is "would you like this free slug with your purchase"

@holyknuckled you get it. lterally what are we here on earth for if not to occasionally impose gastropods upon unsuspecting customers. this story is delightful

oh? my god???

yeah, Exactly like that

Working at Home Depot, we find a lot of friends in Garden. Unfortunately, we don’t let them hitch a ride while we work, because we go inside a lot during spring and summer. Plus we have a couple customer service ladies that will “kill us” if we get within twenty feet of them with a critter. It’s their loss though, because we find lots of frogs and toads, my friend found what we think are male and female praying mantis with 30mins or so of each other last year, a giant snail (biggest we’ve ever seen in garden since I started 4yrs back) and a bee that needed a snack and warm sun.
