i know you won't do this without a script so here's a couple of suggestions to include in your email:

Dear [Name],

I'm writing to you about the recent Supreme Court Ruling which declares that trans women do not meet the legal definition of woman, and that "woman" is legally a "biological woman", but which does not explain what "biological woman" entails.

As a [cis woman, this ruling leaves me less safe, emboldens violent bigots to potentially assault me because of physical features which do not meet their definition of womanhood, and places my transgender friends/family at even higher risk]/ [cis man, this ruling leaves my female friends both cis and trans less safe than they were previously]/ [trans person, this now leaves me at risk of assault every time I attempt to partake in normal public life such as shopping, eating in a restaurant, or going to work].

It is not based in science, and it is noteworthy to me that no transgender people were allowed to give evidence in support of their own legal identities. It aligns the UK not with the forerunners in human rights but with regressive regimes which our Governments, past and present, have rightfully denounced.

I am writing to you today to say that this ruling is politically motivated, prejudiced, and liable to fall in the European Court of Human Rights where it is almost certainly to be taken next, and to ask you to consider refusing to support any further attempts to exclude trans women from public life and basic human rights.

Folks in the UK, could we have some trusted links to charities?

There's Mermaids which is always a great option, and then Scotland-specific there's LGBT Youth Scotland, to give you just a couple. There will absolutely be more that other people can suggest though!

A couple I donate to: TransAid Cymru, to support Welsh trans people, and The Outside Project, which helps queer people in London struggling with homelessness (and as trans people make up a disproportionately large number of unhoused people, it feels very relevant.)

Goes without saying, but don't donate to Pride Cymru, because they're complete shit.

Not a Phase is a trans-led UK charity in support of trans+ and gender diverse adults that does awareness campaigning, social projects, and funding trans+ initiatives and community spaces.

If you're in the UK and able to get to London on Saturday (19th april), Trans Kids Deserve Better (who you may know from releasing 6000 live crickets into the LGB Alliance conference, among other things) will be protesting the Supreme Court decision in Parliament Square starting 1pm. Their Instagram post is here and you can donate to them here.

If you're a UK citizen, there's a petition to legally enshrine the right of adults to physically transition through the NHS open until the 28th of July 2025, and another to allow self-identification for trans people (both have hit 10,000 signatures and the second has received a response from Parliament, but if it reaches 100,000 it has to be debated. The second has a deadline of the 12th of June 2025.)

Mermaids, already mentioned here, has a form you can use to quickly email your MP to ask them to support trans healthcare for young people, specifically targeted at the December decision to ban puberty blockers here.

Finally, whether you're in the UK or not - this decision was enabled by JK Rowling's financial backing of For Women Scotland, the group that brought the case to the UK Supreme Court. Do with that information what you will, but I am asking you, especially if you are not in the UK, to stop contributing financially to Rowling in any way. It's been said before, but I think after this it needs saying again.
