Fining a driver for being late to a National Anthem an eye watering amount (20x the maximum fine for breaching the pit lane speed limit) is already quite something, but when you take into account that:

- we have reached a level of irony so comedic one would be forgiven for thinking this would happen in a fanfiction rather than reality.

Yet the FIA have once again surpassed all expectations.

things i love about the carcar dynamic: when oscar gets annoyed about carlos on the radio, he says snarky things that imply a deep familiarity with his habits and uses his first name. conversely, carlos goes straight to reporting oscar for rule infringements as "the mclaren"

One thing that I think people really do not realize about sports in general, is that it’s not the way a person behaves in the sport that determines whether they are nice or not.

If a soccer player kicks another one in the shin, the kicked player will call foul immediately, because it’s an advantage - no matter how much that kick actually hurt.

In the same way, Max is going to take that little gap as long as he can, whether or not the other car comes unscathed; George is going to call for that rule in the book; Lando is going to point out a safety car infringement.

Because that’s how sports work, they are competitive.

But then, out of the sport:

- Max goes out of his way to give advice to rookies

- Lando has created a brand that partners with athletes of all kinds and esports teams + openly talking about his mental health and collaborating with fundraisers (many of them connected to his helmet designs as well!)

- George has openly talked about sports’ safety and mental health

- Carlos is always completely honest about the sport and the sports’ safety requirements + has founded a karting club that aims to make the sport more accessible economically to new generations

- Fernando has done the same as Carlos + being a manager for numerous new drivers (men and women, because that is important to note as well) that are currently showing their abilities and success in the sport

- Alex has supported numerous fundraisers in Thailand and recently in particular he called out for dogs’ adoptions

- Lewis has created Team 44, don’t need to say more than that because it actually spans on a great variety of scopes

There are many more examples than this! We could talk about this for hours! I could even mention all the things that Seb has done, and he was literally terrorising the track when he was a kid!

All of this comes down to the fact that the people you see in the paddock are not the same people outside of it.

One thing is the sport, one thing is everything outside of the sport. Learn the difference.

(And I completely understand, because if I were the same person I am when I am playing cards against my friends I would be world’s enemy number one)
