i think there is something to be said as far as Dolls And Maids And Such go and the Enjoyers' relationship to gender. in my experience it's primarily trans people, and transfeminine people in particular.
so having, say, dollhood thrust upon you has a similar sort of core theme as, say, forcefem (another thing which is popular with transfemmes), in that it's often framed as someone taking the decision to Be Something out of one's hands. I'd say Empty Spaces revels in it a little more, though: not only is this physical change forced upon one, but the end result of that is that one is kept safe and left to exist within the roles this shape imposes upon then.
(obviously it's not all forced, either, but when presenting it as a counterpart to forcefem it obviously leans that way)
and usually when i see Becoming is involved, that lands in an ultimately positive place. one is safe and happy within that role, with everything good and bad that role entails — and often the bad is REALLY bad — but it all sort of ends up being worth it to exist in one's correct form.
maybe im overthinking this. im like half asleep and very dizzy as i write this, so maybe it doesn't even make sense idk
