A.F. Vandevorst installation for Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011

“A girl sleeping in a hospital bed in her A.F. Vandevorst dress. But here, the girl as well as the mattress and pillow are made out of candle wax. Once lit, what starts as a perfect image will slowly melt and perish during the biennale.”

On November 7, 2024, Denmark used a racist, culturally biased "parenting competency" test to remove a 2 hour old baby, Zammi, from her loving indigenous Greenlandic Inuit mother, Keira, because her native language, which uses minute facial expressions to communicate, will not be able to "[prepare] the child for the social expectations and codes that are necessary to navigate in Danish society." This test had been recommended not to be used at the federal level before this happened but certain municipalities, including the one this happened in, chose to continue to use it regardless. Not only is this blatantly racist but also violates multiple declarations and conventions that Denmark has signed that protect the rights of indigenous people.

Please sign this petition to help Keira to get her baby back.

Hey, it's really important for Keira to get 50,000 signatures on this petition before her court date in early April 2025. Please sign if you haven't already to help a mother and a people stand up to colonialism and for indigenous rights.

Rewatching the scenes in the break room and the level of trauma they inflict on the innies is absolutely devastating.

It’s not just the repetition, the sounds are intended to hurt just as badly. For Dylan it was crying children. For a Helena it’s a man’s (her father, probably) agitated voice.

It’s subconscious torment using sounds that would evoke distress in their outies. The innies don’t know why the sounds make them tense, make them agitated, make them afraid. They don’t have the memories for that, but once again, the body remembers.

i love antique stores you go to check out & theyre like “where the hell did you get this”

But there’s also the curses

I've been looking through the tags and I'm cracking up.

Common themes:

-antique store worker confirming they REALLY don't know how something got there

-other retail employee (especially Barnes and Noble????) saying this isn't antique store specific

-guy who is definitely going to have to call a priest

-tales of excellent thrifting experiences that I'm going to share in this and subsequent reblogs
