Modern AU:

Merlin and Arthur are rivals. Or rather, Merlin thinks they are. They are in the same friend group and they bicker a lot.

Arthur is actually trying to flirt with him, but he's really bad at it. It's very obvious though and their friends pity him for his constantly failing attempts.

Merlin, unfortunately, is oblivious to anything mildly suggestive, because he's convinced Arthur is just an arse.

Don't mind me, but Merlin's cheekbones look good in literally every scene. His face is just impossible to take eyes off. And his smile is just contagious.
