comfortable, decent quality bedding will change your life I'm so serious

my needlessly aggressive opinions concerning:

  • pillows: this is the most common mistake i see--flimsy pillows. and this sucks. this sucks so bad. it's bad for your neck. they wear out so quickly. you have to constantly readjust the filling. they're so damn uncomfortable. get yourself some decently firm pillows--and enough of them to STACK dammit
  • btw it is. legal. to buy pillows of more than one firmness. you can own a Firm Pillow and a Less Firm Pillow on purpose. the government isn't cracking down on that yet
  • sheets: one of my genie wishes would be for every single human being to be gifted a pair of durable non-synethic white sheets that perfectly fit their mattress. these details are important:
  • durability is important. good sheets that cost a bit more but last longer? will save you money over time. they can last YEARS AND YEARS (durability also means less piling. piling is such bullshit, especially if u don't sleep in long pajamas)
  • NATURAL FIBERS that's important. it keeps you cooler and cleaner by wicking away sweat. better sensory experience. 100% cotton is bomb but someday I'd love to get my hands on bamboo, linen, silk sets.
  • white is not the most fun color but it IS the easiest color to clean stains from (important when you're investing in quality sheets meant to last). just make sure you pre-wash the stains before adding bleach, otherwise you get yellow spots. (bleach mixes badly with proteins found in sweat and other bodily...stuff)
  • seriously I'm all for bold colors and crazy patterns on bedspreads (great way to decorate your room) but white sheets underneath are so practical
  • find sheets that fit your bed. find sheets that FIT your bed. i don't mean 'this is technically the correct size for my mattress' i mean sheets that don't fucking COME OFF AT THE EDGES WHAT THE HELL. it is evil. it's evil they've evolved the ability to do that.
  • (admittedly those sexy little suspender clips are an option, haven't tried them yet)
  • related: sheets that don't get loose overnight what the heck. still not certain which types of sheets are more prone to this issue (I assume it's a fabric thing, but is it material, weave, thread count what). tumblr given me your teaspoon-worth of collective knowledge
  • Bedcover/quilt/duvet: make sure it's weather appropriate and that the weight suits your personal preferences. some people sleep better with heavier/lighter/thicker/thinner top covers. some sleep better when tucked in nice and tight (took me a literal decade of adulthood to realize we can just. tuck ourselves in.) find what works for you
  • (shout out to duvet covers btw, SO much easier to clean. and shout out to duvets bc FEATHERS/SOFTNESS i love u duvets)
  • BOLSTER PILLOWS EXIST. and yeah body pillows too. noodle-shapped pillows that your can wrap your corporeal form around like an octopus...they are so so valuable.
  • foam mattress pads are an easy way to improve a mattress determined to do the bare minimum
  • conclusion:

you will fall asleep faster and have better-quality sleep if your sleeping space provides a good sensory experience, tailored to you (and your sleep partners) personally. and dear stars and devils do we all need some good sleep rn

Newest addition to my anyflip archive:

"The Power of the Printed Word" ad campaign run by the International Paper Company in the '80s, including short spreads by Kurt Vonnegut, Malcolm Forbes, Russell Baker, and more.

I decided to turn it into a digital booklet (including my own quickly-made front and back covers) because I was struck by the company's publisher's note:

Today, the printed word is more vital than ever. Now there is more need than ever for all of us to read better, write better, and communicate better.

A statement which still proves to be very true, and possibly even more significant, today.

Also, if anyone knows any good (free) websites to make printing these sorts of things as a double-sided booklet easier, please let me know so I can add an A5 booklet printable as well!

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.

there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.

anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.

if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

I made a free, open source, django-based Text Game Builder that works in your browser, with just a little bit of Python. You can build the story chunks and play them on your local computer, and I'm sure there's got to be a way to host them in a small container online if you wanted to. I can walk you through it if you want to learn how to use it.

Make more weird stuff. Play more weird stuff.

The Barnacle Goose Experiment is a huge favorite of mine. its a surreal little game (technically an idle game but i find it really easy to get fully absorbed and spend an hour or two on it. its got a great soundtrack too. ive never gotten all the way to the end (...yet) but i get totally absorbed in the story as it unfolds every time.

Food for thought

Yeah, this sort of stuff serves several purposes, including:

  • Confuse the masses as to what the actual law is
  • Get people to obey in advance
  • Demoralise the opposition
  • Signal intention to supporters

^^ I was thinking, like, "surely we all remember this from last time," but then I thought about it again, and realized that there are people who voted this year, who wouldn't even have been in their teens during the previous Trump rodeo.

So yeah, if you weren't following it last time, there will be a lot of Executive Orders that get walked back, struck down, or, once subjected to even mildly rigorous legal interpretation, turn out to have little or no effect.

When you see that Trump has signed an EO about something that seems drastic and scary, take a breath and wait a few hours, then see what the experts are saying about it.

I think some people need to confront the feeling of safety that comes from political inaction. This is not to say that people need to turn to full riots immediately, but there needs to be some critical thought put towards what your definition of 'justified' action is, and the extent to which you are willing to change that definition.

Continuing to back away from violence only ever protects yourself, and only ever temporarily. The space that you open up by shrinking away from confrontation is permission given to fascists to take up that space instead. They are, at their heart, cowards, and can only succeed if people do not face them head-on.

People need to become comfortable, not only with speaking out in the traditional sense (through petitions, email campaigns to representatives, etc), but also with hands-on or 'violent' approaches.

If you think it is morally reprehensible to attack a nazi or a white supremacist, ask yourself why. If you think that 'necessary action' is limited to something you can post, ask yourself why. There WILL become a point where inaction is the same as copping out and giving up. Fighting will not be pretty, and it will not be neat, and some people need to learn to be okay with that.

If by some miracle sweet potato Hitler doesn't win come the end of the week, this won't be necessary, but should he win here are some of the first things to be aware of or do.

  • If you know a trans person, no you don't. Respect them as best you can in private but you know nothing in public.
  • Be aware that TikTok will likely be banned, find new platforms to spread information. Fuck Twitter and what ever tiktok replacement he's working on.
  • Learn to Garden, even in winter so you can feed yourself should prices skyrocket
  • Get an air purifier. The Clean Air Act is likely to be stripped of its power with the EPA deregulated, air quality is going to suffer
  • Should you have kids, try to supplement history/social studies education. That's the first place they will attack, if you need help ask, history teacher will help
  • Try and do what you can to be aware of your health before January.

Help one another. That's the best way we can move forward and make change in the future.

It is the goal of Project 2025 to reverse the EPA report from December 15, 2009 showing that carbon emissions are harmful to human health.

It is likely due to other project 2025 policies that documents relating to climate science will be made more difficult to access if you're in the USA, so I've linked the report below.

Even if you don't read through it, keeping records of these studies is important to making sure we don't lose valuable scientific information over the next 4 years.

Not only bringing this up to the top of my page, but also wanted to bring attention to the recent restrictions of CDC reports from receiving funding if they include the following words...

  • Vulnerable
  • Entitlement
  • Diversity
  • Transgender
  • Foetus
  • Evidence-based/ Science-based

Reminder to SAVE as MUCH scientific research as possible in light of the recent mass-stripping of information for people living in the USA.

I've posted other documents in the past on my page, and have since moved everything to AnyFlip under my blog name. Because I am not American, nor have I ever lived in the USA, I may be able to get around certain filters that are inaccessible, even via VPN.

If there are more PDF's you think should be saved, please let me know!

i have a folder in my computer called "just in case" where i have important documents saved, like the constitution (since trump REMOVED IT from whitehouse.gov) and books that might get banned

im obviously going to add more, if anyone has any reccomendations please let me know. just wanted to share because i think its a good idea going into these next 4+ years.

EDIT i've also added a clip of elon doing the nazi salute because its taken down a lot of places and likely will be removed everywhere. as well as screenshots of what happened when you searched "presidents in order" (it did not show biden) and "president from 2020-2024" (it showed trump) but have since been fixed

The following document detailing the economic benefits to federal funding to stop climate change has been removed from all USA government websites. I've attached both a pdf and permalink below the cut.

friendly reminder to pirate everything as often as possible and (above all) to do it safely.

FreeMediaHeckYeah is possibly one of the best resources I have seen collecting what is essentially every viable pirating site for all types of media, and I felt it needed to be shared!

I am going to say something that might be controversial. You might not agree. I don't care. No politician can save you or save your country. We need to stop expecting them to save us. Who am I talking about when I say "us"? I'm talking about average people. Everyday folks. The sad reality is that people think that things will get better and improve for us just because someone new is in power. Let me hold your hand while I say this: some minor things might improve, but at the end of the day, the ultra rich will just keep getting richer, and the rest of us will just keep getting poorer. Why? Politicians all come from a place of wealth and privilege. The whole system of politics is inherently classist. You need to have a ton of money to even run for office and campaign. And so what makes you think that any politician will try to improve things for you? I need you to hear this. No matter which political party is in charge, no matter WHAT they promise they will do, when it's all said and done, life will not become substantially better for us (the average people). The politicians only care about other wealthy people. The sooner you realize this, the better. We need to stand the fuck up and rise up or things will never change.

Chai tea bag + lil but of brown sugar + apple cider packet + 16 oz. mug of hot but not quite boiling water

it will not Fix You but like. maybe. maybe.

Update: this is the best post I've ever made because everyone is sharing their Warm Beverage recipes in the notes. Go check the notes for more Warm Beverages That Will Fix You.

go make urself a warm drink rn...

whether its current global politics or day-to-day stress, a warm drink can help (even if only a little)
