i will never be against piracy ever but i also need physical media to remain

the average blockbuster carried about 3x as many films than that that are streaming on Netflix or any other streaming service, physical media along with piracy is more important than ever.

I thought this wasn’t true, because how could it be true? How could one small store have more movies than an online database? So I googled it.

I am surprised and depressed to learn it’s 100% true, according to google. A Blockbuster store was required to have a minimum of 7000 titles, but most averaged about 10,000. Netflix has 4000 movies. (And 1800 tv shows if you want to count those, but even included, it’s still less)

Now I’m even more depressed about the collapse of physical rental stores.

BONUS: They weren't beholden to Who Owns What IP Right Now. They got videos from everyone. You didn't have to pay separately for the rights to rent from the Disney Shelves and the WB Shelves and bler bler bler, and they only STOPPED having those movies when the tapes broke or someone never returned 'em.

friendly reminder that your local library will have lots of physical media and if they don't have what you're looking for you can most likely ask them to purchase it or order it from another library through interlibrary loan

kinda insane that the black bulter anime is now only like one season away from the music hall arc I did not think we'd ever see it animated with the way this story has been adapted and yet here we are

For some context for those not in the know black butler season 1 was 24 episodes long with about 6 of those episodes following the manga and the rest being anime only which then ended with a conclusive ending in which the main character gets eaten and thats the end of black butler...

only not for long bc then the series was green lit for a second season and this season was 12 episodes long and completely anime only and it ended with the main character and becoming a demon there's 4 silly ova episodes that aren't connected to the plot of season 2 but thats it thats the definitive end of black butler...

only not for long bc the show gets green lit for a season 3 this season goes back to being based on the manga which means you the anime only fan have to figure out which episodes of season 1 were canon and which parts to forget (ill help you out the dog man and queen vicky being a child was not in the manga) anyway after season 3 the anime does not steer away from the manga however the next season of black butler is not a season at all the entire murder arc gets released in 2 ova episodes which unlike all the previous ovas released is canon complicit after the ovas the next arc the titanic arc is adapted into a movie this was back in 2017 and honestly for a while this appeared to be the last we'd see of the anime adaptation of black butler ...

BUT NOT FOR LONG bc in 2024 black butler once again released a proper 11 episode season of the school arc which even included a teaser at the end for the next season of the anime which is currently airing

why this anime refuses to die I can't say but at this point I am rooting for it

I wish we had seen more mediocre benders in atla. It would have accentuated how talented everyone in the gaang actually is. I am sure not every bender would have a talent for martial arts, right? I’d like to see earthbenders who are terrible at aiming and can’t throw a single rock, or waterbenders who freeze water every time they try to bend it, or firebenders with respiratory problems, or airbenders with with a fear of heights

Speaking of our insanely talented main cast, they are so good at bending that they all invent, discover or master a certain subtype of bending (lightning redirection, seismic sense, metalbending, bloodbending, healing, energybending).

It’d be interesting to see a character who is considered mediocre or even terrible at bending achieve this. Just being great at the most unconventional (both useful and useless) way of bending while ‘failing’ the basics.

That earthbender who can’t lift a pebble? They can tell apart the chemical composition of any pile of dirt.

The firebender with respiratory issues? They have insane control of their internal energy making them an excellent lightningbender.

The airbender with a fear of heights? They have mastered floating exactly one feet above the ground.

The waterbender who freezes water every time they bend? They can now even freeze the water in clear air.
