Heya,
I'd like to notify you that "Hood’s troubles - Time for a side quest!"'s Next link leads to "Complete! - Friendship and forage found!" instead of "Begin! - Foraging time!"
Furthermore, "Tah Dah! - Egg Tarts and Troubles" (name pending) is missing from the Tumblr masterpost, while webtoons is still missing all of the posts from "The Statue - The two argue over a statue’s value" onward.
Oh, thanks. I'm on break from this blog rn but I'll try to get to this stuff later. Although the Webtoons I can't promise updating any time soon, it's kind of a chore.

Ravio?
A redraw of Hilda's debut in @minas-linkverse !
so i was rereading @minas-linkverse, and i wanna talk about just what kind of fascinating character feathers is. i'm basing my analysis on the panels above/their updates as well as this update. feathers is such a great character and there's a lot of details that showcase it but they're woven in so cleverly it took a re-read to catch them.
he's so. link in the way that he seems to take everything onto himself. it's self destructive in a way. he's like a candle burning himself out to keep everyone else warm. he can't relax at night he has to think about everyone and how he personally can manage to help them. it's clear that his journey changed him to be like this like. adventure isn't in his bones. he probably didn't long for far off lands. but he loves down to his core and he's the sort of person that wouldn't shuck any responsibility even if he wanted to. there's this ongoing thread that might be summed up as: is being a hero a choice or a curse? the answer for some of them might be, a little bit of both. like for masks and legend it's probably a curse. but for feathers it feels like it was a curse he decided to take on if that makes sense. like he knew it would curse him but he walked into it anyway.
i think there's parallels between this link (feathers) and fi. because as he crafts fi and slowly refines her, he is likewise crafting himself into a sword. he's getting sharper and dedicating himself more to a singular purpose. and he succeeded, obviously. but you can't go back to being iron or steel. he can't undo the process that made him into a hero, even if it may or may not have been in his original nature to become something that sharp. and so i think it's like after the war is over he's struggling to go back to having a soft edge, but he wants to. he wants to fit back into the niche he left but their shapes don't align anymore. even him taking on the task of delivering granny's letter to sailor just so he would take on the burden of the negative reaction. he manages everything he's struggling with by focusing outwards: if he only sees other people then he doesn't have to see himself.
this isn't sustainable of course. it's also not very obvious at first glance. like feathers looks like he's got it all together. but of course he doesn't - this whole trip involves people with massive unresolved traumas. if legend is like "I'm the one who always has to fix things" then feathers is "I'm the one who is responsible for all the things." and it's like a slight difference but it changes the way they see themselves in a major way, and how they feel their failures reflect back onto themselves and that's just neat!
Director's commentary: Guard at the gates Full update <-
I established in my analysis of the update "Tipping" that Legend and Ravio are showing the first signs of getting along in these updates, but just like in that update: Ravio is the punching bag again.
This is for a bigger purpose, even if I did highly enjoy drawing his petty suffering. (Sorry, Rav.) That purpose being Hilda! She gets very little screentime in this arc, but is also vital for the story. So I did my best to squeeze AS Much preparation for her appearance as I could. Of course any ALBW fan reading the comic knows that going to Lorule Castle means Hilda will be there, but I don't want to rely just on people's prior knowledge of the franchise.
So! I set up the banishment as a way to establish Ravio and her connection better, the fact she seemed to overreact to Ravio vanishing for a little bit, and very importantly: That Ravio is even more determined to go see her learning this. This way we already have some idea of their possible dynamic long before Hilda appears in the comic.
It also makes her actual appearance more exciting! Cause the viewer has been waiting for it! It's what she deserves 💛
Anyway, to focus on the comic itself!
Azzy! Also known as "Thief Girl" in game. It felt wrong for her not to have a name, so I slipped one in there. I like to think that Link is the one who suggested hiring her as a guard for the castle. She was likely one of the first people besides the triforce gang to open her heart to the idea of positive change in Lorule.
Also she had some sass in game so I had to keep it in. She may be doing honest work now but she ein't a bore.
Azzy was going to let them in regardless of Ravio not being on the list, she just wanted to see what'd happen if she messed around a bit. It's entertainin'.
...Another reason she was going to let Ravio in regardless, is that Azzy cares about Hilda quite a lot and could tell that her banishing Ravio was probably not a choice she made in her right mind. She was hoping that Ravio would go in and fix the situation where she couldn't.
Although Ravio reassures Azzy, the last few panels of the update are purposefully a major tonal shift from earlier.
We're at the castle, it's time to face Hilda, and Ravio is nervous. The goofy tone hasn't just been to give the reader a breather, it's an example of Ravio distracting himself of what's ahead. He can't do that anymore, as in the next update Hilda makes her appearance.
It's meant to be kind of a parallel to the game too. Ravio's been gone for unknown reasons, Hilda's spiraling, and he's gathering courage he didn't know he had to face her and hopefully make everything okay. Altho, even without that context it should be an interesting scene... I tried, at least!
Finally there's what Ravio says: "I'll make sure of it." This is foreshadowing to the dynamic that Hilda and Ravio are shown to have in the next update: Codepdency. The two may be incredibly close, but they've also been the only people they've been able to rely on for far too long. Ravio truly in this moment believes it's his duty to make Hilda feel better, and that he is the only one who can.
Also Leg is there. Doing Leg things.
Can I ask abt commentary for "Tipping" and "Guard at the gate" from the rabbit roadtrip arc? Some of the funniest moments from my favorite arc (So far!!)
Alright! Let's goo! I'll analyze tipping in this post, and make another for guard at the gate :]
Director's commentary: Tipping Full update <-
I'm gonna start by highlighting a visual storytelling tool that often goes unnoticed because when it's done well you don't pay attention to it 🙌
Before the roadtrip started, I tried to figure out where in the map of the game they would start at and where they'd end. I specifically went for something with a fairly clear direction. In this case from left to right.
Then when illustrating the roadtrip, I tried to have Legend and Ravio facing to the direction of where they're -> -> going as often as possible. This was to create a consistent feeling of the duo progressing on their journey. This way if you're a fan of ALBW you can tell from the environment how they've progressed, and if you're not aware of Lorule's geography, you can still get a strong sense of them traveling.
A lot of visual media plays with the directions of where characters face and what direction they may exit or enter a scene from, so I highly rec keeping an eye out for it if you don't already. It's such an easy to miss tool but also SO powerful. If a comic's flow feels off it is often due to the characters flipping around unexpectedly.
...Anyway with that self indulgent ramble about my special interest out of the way, back to the comic--
This update is the first interaction we see of Legend and Ravio post-bunny drama, and although it is largely used to establish Ravio's banishment and to do a funny goof, my main goal was to establish the dynamic these two would have for the next leg-- Hehe-- Of the arc, AND a spot to grow from in the long term future of the comic.
Before this the two's interactions have only been negative and highly dramatic, so establishing a sort of "normal" for them felt very necessary. Of course in this update only Ravio is the butt of the joke, but in later updates such as this one, we see that it turns mutual over time. Basically: this update is their first baby steps in getting along... Despite how it seems.
...
Anyway I'll talk more about the decision to include Ravio being banished (for a short time) in other analysis, especially ones that include Hilda, so... That's really all I had to say about this one.
However, I will now post some of my favourite expressions from the update 💛
Ps. It was fun to draw Thieves' town as a more lively and bright location. The fact that the blacksmith's wife has a stand there is a hint about the growing economy and peace of Lorule :]
