“ships should at least make sense.” no. ships can make sense, sure. but they’re just fictional characters we play with for fun. they’re fantasies, not a fucking thesis paper. so no, they don’t always have to make sense. they just have to make you happy (or horny).

let people enjoy (fictional) things however they want to enjoy.

i thought my laptop was on its last leg because it was running at six billion degrees and using 100% disk space at all times and then i turned off shadows and some other windows effects and it was immediately cured. i just did the same to my roommate's computer and its performance issues were also immediately cured. okay. i guess.

so i guess if you have creaky freezy windows 10/11 try searching "advanced system settings", go to performance settings, and uncheck "show shadows under windows" and anything else you don't want. hope that helps someone else.

hey this is apparently helping a lot of people! adding that on top of this you can also go to settings > personalization > colors and turn off transparency to also boost performance. this wasn't the Big Fix for me but might as well do that too if you're trying to optimize.

past a certain note threshold on tumblr posts you unlock a bloodborne-esque insight and the strange lives of this site's users become visible to you

we fucking found them?

Ok I know we joke about this but I just went to the settings and first clicked "adjust for best performance" and then re-checked only 1 box:

"Smooth edges of screen fonts"

My computer was running hot before I turned everything off; the office I'm in is very warm, I could feel the heat of my CPU through the keyboard. The fans were going, not as loud as they usually get, but they were still blasting.

Y'all.

I can barely feel the warmth through the keyboard now. It's been like 2 minutes. The fan is nearly silent.

Click the Windows key and start typing "System settings", and "View Advanced system settings" will pop up. Then click "Settings" under Performance:

Then you'll see this:

TURN IT ALL OFF.

I turned "Show window contents while dragging" and then turned that off again. It's up to you.

got told at lunch "you feel like Tumblr Incarnate" and i had to tell them i've been here for 13 years and counting. i was here three years before dashcon happened. i saw the mishapocalypse. i survived the gigapause. i've been here longer than the shoelaces post. i've been here since it was hipsters versus fandom and i played both sides extensively by overdoing the sepia filters on everything and making my own flashing galaxy gif edits for my fandom posts. i'm every tumblr. it's all in me

Oh ancient one what wisdom do you hold?

  • 99% of callout posts are bullshit and just petty personal drama someone is escalating to get even on a grudge. do not engage with these, do not freelance as a cop
  • DNIs do not work. accept this. internalize that people you don't like will see your posts and engage with them. this is unavoidable and the sooner you make peace with it the freer your mind will be. block the freaks and don't sweat the small stuff
  • building a tight knit circle of fellow weirdos who vibe with your particular quirks and taste is infinitely more rewarding and sustainable than chasing the biggest numbers
  • don't respond to bad-faith arguments or bad takes; just block people, blacklist tags, filter post content, and move on. don't feed the trolls (or the bigots)
  • don't hate-follow
  • don't tag your hate (ex. if you're posting about how much you hate a ship, don't tag it as that ship, etc.)
  • don't feel obligated to keep following someone who posts stuff that upsets/depresses/angers/bores you just because you know them really well, or because you're mutuals, or because you used to like what they post. following is nothing personal and neither is unfollowing
  • op doesn't know you; avoid parasocial relationships
  • don't pick fights or reblog posts just to disagree/argue
  • spread joy and positivity in your circles
  • disable anonymous asks

At least three of your mutual will fall headfirst into a fandom that makes zero sense to you, but you don't have the heart to unfollow them. Be happy for their happiness, and recognise that no matter how quickly you scroll past their billion blorbo posts you will end up with strong opinions on their ships

Man I hate it when people use the pronoun “you” as a singular pronoun in an informal setting. “You” is plural, unless thou dost speak to an unfamiliar person. The correct singular second person pronoun is “thou” in most cases. Grammar never changes. Pronouns must always stay one way until the end of time. Learn thy proper English. *sigh* Kids these days.

If thou this mistake shouldst make on thine own blog, then know, villain, that thou art a dirty descriptivist, and no friend of mine. Ne'er should language itself alter, it doth remain fixèd as such, untouch’d by change. Wouldst thou, vile descriptivist, that we forget the heritage of our great tongue? Nay, say I. Thou art but a dickhead who sayest so.

it’s unfortunate that (some) people in fandom spaces are starting to get too comfortable complaining and being rude to writers and artists who create contents they personally don’t like (“why are you making this character a top when he’s obviously a bottom? omg do you even understand his character?” “I’m so sick of seeing fan art and fanfic where this character is portrayed as a sadist when he’s actually misunderstood in my opinions, therefore anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and should be shamed” just to name a few I’ve seen) instead of curating their own fandom experiences by engaging only with contents they do like.

you want more fics where (x) is written in this specific way? either write one yourself or politely expressing your opinion about how you hope there will be more fics where (x) is written in this specific way instead of making fandom a toxic place by being rude to writers and artists who dare make contents that are not to your Personal Liking.

if the universe does not revolve around you, strangers and fandom spaces don’t have to cater exclusively to your personal preferences either.

to all my beloved writers and artists, write whatever you want, draw whatever you want. portray that character in whichever way you want to portray. I hope you have fun doing what you love. don’t let anybody tell you what you can or can’t do with the blorbo. go wild. I will always support you

the timing of seeing this is frankly hilarious for me considering recent events but. tehehe reblog!

Your fetish doesn’t have to be praxis.

Read that sentence. Read it again. Really drill it into your skull. Internalize the idea until it cannot be removed from your brain.

Then stop making really annoying discourse posts on why this or that kink is WrongBad or how everyone with it is WrongBad and start caring more about how this person treats others outside of a consensual kink context. You’re allowed to hate a kink because of how much it resembles real life issues you suffer with, but other people are going to engage in it whether you like it or not and the only reasonable thing you can ask of them is to not involve you or anyone else who doesn’t want to be a part of it.

And before “three guesses on what kink OP has” if you don’t know me, you’re probably wrong and about to make yourself look like an ass by making assumptions. Go ahead, test your luck, I dare you.

#my somniphilia kink is feminism because it allows tired women to rest 😌

Actually this is the funniest response someone’s made while getting the point. everybody share why your kink is progressive and leftist.

giving “unsolicited criticism” on someone’s fanfic doesn’t make you cool and your “suggestion” is definitely not helping the author lol

what fanfic is is 1.) free, 2.) something an artist writes for fun, 3.) their source of comfort and joy.

unless specifically asked, fanfic writers are not looking forward to hearing your unsolicited criticism, even if you do so “politely”. by reading someone’s fic, you ask the author to let you in their house and they let you in. if you end up not liking their place, you quietly leave. you don’t start telling them things you don’t like about their house.

“but I was being polite when I tell them their bed should be bigger” “I was saying it so nicely when I let them know pink did not suit their couch” no. you’re not helping. you’re just telling them they should adjust their place in order to fit your personal liking. it’s their house. not yours. build your own house instead of telling strangers how their houses should be.

if authors didn’t ask for your opinions and if you don’t have anything nice to say, be quiet.

Okay but thank you for saying this it means so much to me :)

Today I was chatting with two guys and mentioned I was aroace. It went a little something like this.

A: wtf is that

B: it means she’s not attracted to people in that way

A: bro you can’t just not pick a side, that’s crazy

B: nah, it just means she’s spectator mode

A: OHHH IT MAKES SENSE NOW

I have never felt more validated or laughed so hard

“I’m afraid of getting cancer from the cadmium in my painting supplies” I’m not 😌 I love you cadmium yellow. I love you vermillion red. I love you uranium orange, haven’t worked with you but I love you nevertheless. Most of all I love you arsenic green.

This dress could kill you but I completely understand why people in the late 19th century were willing to take that risk.

Here is uranium orange fiestaware, proving that beauty truly is pain.

just found out about London purple 🤤

I was wondering what was involved with London purple so as to merit its inclusion alongside such stars as arsenic green and uranium orange, and --

Ah, cool, gotcha

Do you like the color of the poison?

I feel the need to be clear since I keep getting the asks - the reason I have stopped posting asks directing me to Palestinian gofundmes and the like is because it’s become impossible to tell bots from people.

People don’t go into random popular posts to link their gofundme.

People typically don’t send the exact same ask over and over even if I’ve already answered it once, for months, with zero changes to its content.

People don’t follow me before sending an ask requesting I post their gofundme. Generally they’ve either been following me a while or they don’t bother doing so before asking. (Which is totally fine)

This is excluding the other things bots do that I consider a plausible symptom of tumblr repeatedly deleting Palestinian blogs/not being native English speakers - empty blogs with only a few random posts interspersed with the gofundme, default banners and icons, disjointed typing style with copious emojis.

I cannot in good faith ask others to donate when I can’t verify it. And at this point, I’ve seen so many of these accounts act exactly like bots including the weird little things bots do, that I don’t feel confident in their legitimacy.

I still believe you should donate to charities and buy eSIMs if you can afford to do so, and do your daily button press. But that’s why the godfundme reblogs have so fully stopped.

shaming and making fun of people for still engaging in fandom activities once they reach a certain age is so embarrassing because why are you giving yourself an expiration date of time you have fun? why are you not-so-indirectly saying you will stop having fun once you reach a certain age? or do you really believe you have to stop engaging in fandom activities and having fun once you turn (x)? do you not think you will, what, live that long and turn that age too? do you think fun will suddenly stop for you and life will all of a sudden lose its meaning once you reach a certain age? how sad to be giving yourself an hourglass and just waiting for your time of having fun to run out.

adults can and should engage in fandom activities if it's what makes them happy.

adults can and should continue doing whatever they like doing as teenagers if it's what makes them happy.

age is just... part of life. it's a part of me and it's a part of you. shaming people for something you will have to go through (unless you don't think you will live that long) is such a loser behavior. indirectly saying you will stop having fun once you reach a certain age isn't the flex you think it is. it doesn't make you look "cool and edgy", it makes you look miserable.

I need to get this off my chest even if it’s been a number of years. I don’t think David from Simple Plan is a bad person, or at least he’s not that bad of a person. I know, hot take there are ligations but bear with me a second because I think even just putting this out there in the world will do me some good. I don’t think there are exactly victims in this situation. I feel like there is a lot of misunderstanding, a decent amount of hearsay, some baseless stuff, and then a group of people that were in a consensual situation wanted to back out for whatever reason (I don’t doubt some were uncomfortable but I do not think that says anything against him per say) and it got blown out of proportion. And you might say “oh well he left” but I feel like that was genuinely because he 1) felt bad for making people uncomfortable and as such hurting them and 2) needed out for his mental healths sake. And I do stand by thinking it truly sounds like he was into maybe kink or group sex which made people uncomfortable and they took it and ran a successful cancellation.

So I’m sorry if you hate me after this but do us both a favour and if that’s the case just block me and move on with your life

Millegender

Millegender: Coming from the latin mille for many. It means you are many genders, but all within your race/neurotype/etc. (Meant as an alternative to Pangender, because many people believe that it’s meant to be ‘every single gender ever’ when it’s not and most people don’t use it as such).

Term coined by: Strawbs-Cake

[Image: Flag composed of 3 triangles and a thick V in the center separating them. The bottom of the V is partly cut off so it has a blunt edge. The colors from left to right are: Pink, teal (the V), mint green (center triangle pointing down), lavender].

Bi Lesbian

This flag is created for bi women/woman-aligned people who are more strongly attracted to women. Historically, the term lesbian has included bi, pan, or other m-spec women.

[Image: Flag with 7 stripes: Pink, purple, blue, off-white, light pink, light red, dark red. Basically, the top stripes of the lesbian flag replaced with the bi flag].

Full size [Here]

Color meanings: A combo of the bi and lesbian flags.

Since a lot of biphobes are getting rocks in their shoes over this I’mma post some more bi lesbian flags I’ve found around.

Feel free to add others you find/made and please let me know if you know the source for anything unknown!

A Bisexual Lesbian (or Bi-Lesbian for short) is someone who is both bisexual and a lesbian. This term can be used by women who use the split attraction model and are bisexual and homoromantic (lesbian) or someone who experiences lesbian tertiary attraction. They have sexual attraction to two or more genders but are only romantically attracted to women. They may find themselves sexually attracted to men, but could never picture themselves in a relationship with one, putting more emphasis on their attraction to women, though this varies from person to person. It can also be used by people who identify as both bisexual and lesbian, either due to changing attraction, or due being part of plural system. Additionally, the term can apply to women and other non-men who are bisexual and prioritize their attraction to women/non-men or have a strong preference for women/non-men, or for people who are reclaiming the historical definition of lesbian alongside identifying as bisexual.
This can also be switched around for biromantics!
History of Bi Lesbianism
Origin:
The label “bi lesbian” originated in the 1970s as a result of the effects of lesbian separatism, a belief within some strains of lesbian feminism and often within radical feminism which advocates for separating women from men in as many ways as possible as a strategy to achieve women’s liberation.[1] Subsequently, this lead to lesbian separatists rejecting and often discriminating against women who refused to withdraw from their involvment with men, particularly bisexual women. Lesbian separatists accused bisexual women of “sleeping with the enemy” and forcefully removed them from lesbian spaces and from claiming the lesbian identity for themselves, by redefining it as “a homosexual female/woman” or “a woman who does not sleep with men/is not attracted to men”. It is because of lesbian separatism that the bisexual label became very popular starting in the 1970s, as the word to describe a woman who was attracted to other women before was “lesbian”, whether they were attracted exclusively or not, and now that had suddenly changed.
Examples of Use
Lavender Woman, Volume 2, Issue 5, August 1973: “What is a Lesbian? To me, a lesbian is a woman-oriented woman; bisexuals can be lesbians…[2]
Lani Kaahumanu, “Bisexuality & Discrimination”, BBWM Vol. 3, No. 6, Dec 1985-Jan 1986: “…my lesbian awareness isn’t lost now that I claim my bisexuality […] My political consciousness is lesbian but my lifestyle is bisexual…”[3]
Robyn Ochs, “Bi of the Month: Betty Aubut”, Bi Women Vol. 5, No. 2, April-May 1987: “I call myself a “bisexual lesbian.” I will always politically identify as bisexual, which to me means opposing restrictive categories […] I consider myself gay. I think bisexuals are gay and gay liberation is our liberation…”[4]
Amy Wyeth, “Don’t Assume Anything”, Bi Women Vol. 13, No. 4, Aug-Sep 1995: “Unfortunately, many of my experiences as a lesbian-identified bisexual woman have said to me that having an appearance or demeanor that diverges from the expected means I will not be accepted as truly belonging in the lesbian community.”[5]

I’ll throw in some Omni, Ply, and Pan lesbian flags too! And Bi Vincian/Gay men flags:

Admittetly; as someone who's oppinion doesn't actually matter that much as aroace realm, I think the colours of the third flag down are the best but all are valid. All of this is valid
